It was written in roughly 1150 when king demetre abandoned his title and became a monk, his love of the Virgin gleams through his poetry. “You are a vineyard newly blossomed. Young, beautiful, growing in Eden. A fragrant poplar sapling in Paradise. May God adorn you, no one is more worthy of praise. You yourself are the sun, shining brilliantly.”
Edit: it’s not known who exactly wrote it, but it is attributed to him.

I think it's not poplar but cypress. Because 'alva' in old Georgian referred to columnar cypress, not poplar, which is also columnar. Poplar is not fragrant, cypress is because of resin.

This hymn is from the Georgian Orthodox Church. Georgia is the oldest Orthodox Christian country. It had 5 Apostles preach the Gospel there in the first century. This hymn is about the Mother of God.
