A lot of people say RUclips is not a place of learning, I was really fortunate to see your videos and gain a lot of knowledge, I was able to fix my ps4 slim a few days ago when it was deemed a no fix, just wanted to say keep up the good work
Amazing video. I had a similar issue with the same filter being blown. Had an issue with a capacitor that was shorting the line but followed your way of diagnosing this issue which helped a ton. Different issue than yours but same results.
Good job as always and very interesting. I can recall watching one of your videos with the same issue with the flux under the Southbridge and checking the oscillator.
Yeah I don't care to use my lips or face. Thermal cam for the win! Alcohol would have worked if I had increased the current to get a little more heat developed. Thanks for watching!
I am kind of new to console repairs, i mostly fix phones an tablets. I just started following you when searching for PS5 beeps no power, you have a very calm way of making repair videos lol. This is my first time working on a PS5 and it just happens to be this exact same motherboard. Funny thing is this video came out just when i needed it, i still dont know the problem but i have an idea as to where to start. Also it seems someone has worked on it before since there was flux and a bridged pin on the Panasonic MN864739 chip. My real issue here is i dont have a spare board to test or to swap parts. Anyways thanks for posting these videos they are really helpful to a lot of people including me.
Thank you. I'm glad you like the videos. After you have worked on a few PS5s, you will get better and better. It's just like any other repair, you learn by doing. You will pick up on subtle things. If you are going to be working on quite a few, I would recommend having a good working board on hand to compare to. Sometimes PSN banned boards can be had cheaply.
Wow you are the master of the master professional electronics engineer and you must be rocket scientist 🚀 scientist there not lots of people like you in world 😉 so professional engineer always love your videos 😀 but I don't have any PlayStation I have one but it's I believe PlayStation 3 which have some problems put new hard drive which it don't recognise so I put in the garage 😰😭I wish you was in England and take you for nice drinks and dinner in English PUB 😉 well done 👏
Flux seems to add capacitance to ground. This does not bother most circuits, however, crystal oscillators are very high impedance and can fail to oscillate if there is flux or alcohol across the circuit.
Fluxing oscillator! I feel like that would catch me out, although I've seen some pretty strange things like an entire section of pcb going conductive keeping a bunch of LEDs lit. I like how your PSU beeps, is it pulsing the output?
The flux and/or alcohol under the Southbridge got me several times on the PS4 before I figured it out. No, it's not pulsing the output. It is just warning that it is in current limiting. I don't think it has always done that. It may have started after a software update. Maybe I can turn it off?
@@ToltecMerc Oh I thought it might be some neat feature where you could use it to watch for alcohol twitching in sync with the output pulses.... maybe I should invent that as an add-on.
Hello!!! I have a dead ps5....I had it in rest mode, and overnight we had a bad storm and power surges. The next day it would not turn on. The power button if pressed would beep once but not boot and no lights came on. If you pressed the eject button it would beep 3 times to signal no disc inserted. It would not accept a disc either. I took it to a local UBreakIFix franchise for an estimate...they said it wasn't the power supply or hard drive etc, must be the motherboard....they quoted me $299.99 + tax and a $25 shipping and handling fee. I declined and brought it back home. but now when I plug it up and press power or reset.....absolutely no sounds or beeps. I will gladly ship my ps5 to you. You can make a video of the repair for content and I will gladly pay you for repair if it's less than $300 and pay for return shipping. A brand new digital ps5 is only $400, doesn't make fiscal sense to pay $350+ to repair one. Thanks, Paul. Thank you
I gained so much from this video thank you. Subbed. i have an 033 board with the same issue but i think mine is actually the dialog IC, but the only donor i have has the RT5127. Are they interchangable?
I have a machine that will work for a little while if I pulled the crystal oscillator off the board for a few mins and put it back on. This is after a new south bridge install. Is there anyway to calibrate the crystal oscillator or should I just outright replace it?
Sir are there benefits to having 2 different kinds of multimeter? I see you have a fluke and that other multimeter. Does one work well in some scenarios that the other can’t ?
Well done! I am curious, do you have a no fix scenario sometimes or are you able to solve every issue? Just wondering if you ever hit road blocks. Sure doesn't seem so. Cheers!
Thanks! Of course I do. I have one PS5 in a box in the garage that I have not been able to fix...yet! I do feel like I'm getting close. Then I will finish that video as well.
I just bought a broken PS5 off of Facebook for 170 that is no power and never opened. I plan to check for a dead power supply and replace that if it’s the power supply. If I get it and the power supply is getting 12v I plan to just sell it for someone else to work on. Maybe you’d be interested in it?
I shoot with my videos with my iPhone 12. The microscope is an AmScope, I don't recall the model. The microscope camera is a cheap, no-name generic microscope camera that I bought off eBay.
@@ToltecMerc i buy camera gor 920$ from amscope have a Bad Programm amd no service i try to use my iphobe bettet tjx for all u t video i learn do mich fromu thx
What causes that?? What are the symptoms becuae mine gets warm imstantly then cant play not even 2 hrs in already warning too hot or shuts off and no dust or Debris around psu, heat sinks, radiators so what else could it be?:)
Well the cost for me was basically zero as I had a parts board and the PS5 was one I had purchased to repair. At a retail establishment, you would probably be looking at $100 to $125. That’s just a guess though. I’m just a hobbyist.
@@ToltecMerc Consider all 1200 series consoles are less than a year old and still under warranty, I wonder what prompted the original owner to resell the console as broken instead of just filing an RMA with Sony.

I'm glad you were able to learn something and fix your PS4. It is a great feeling! Keep fixing!
Totally agreed 💯
@@ToltecMerc Do you fix fan connectors? I ripped mine from the motherboard. I've tried doing it myself but I'm clearly not skilled.
Excellent job as usual good call on the flux under the south bridge, nothing beats the voltage injection.
Thank you! I should have gone with the voltage injection from the start but it looks cool finding the short with alcohol.
Hope you get some Xbox series X to work on soon.

Yes. It has bitten me before and I learned from it.

I use cheap Kingbo flux. There is nothing wrong with the more expensive stuff but this works for me.

Awesome repair, yet again. So did WiFi turn out to be OK despite the tape situation?
Actually yes. There was the slightest cut in the outer jacket which revealed the outer braid.
I want to ask a simple question. why do you say you can inject volt now the fuse is blow. what happen if I inyect volt and the fuse is still there?
I gained so much from this video thank you. Subbed. i have an 033 board with the same issue but i think mine is actually the dialog IC, but the only donor i have has the RT5127. Are they interchangable?

There is no way to calibrate it. Normally just make sure it is clean of any flux. If you need to replace it, you can pull one from a PS4.

Do you know what ampere rate of that fuse label in Y ?
I am not completely sure. I think it may be 5A. I have not confirmed it though. It had a Y with an underscore.

If your PS5 is over-heating, you could have an issue with the liquid metal moving off the APU die. This leads to poor heat transfer.
what is the average cost for this type of repair? if you don't mind me asking?
