I’m a licensed vet technician, you’re correct .. it’s what I use as well , since I don’t feed my animals in their tubs to avoid digesting substrate, I let the tub soak while their eating .
Thanks for chiming in! Glad to hear I'm not leading people in the wrong direction!
Not @ all bro ...hell I went to school for four years & im learning from you on certain topics, I appreciate ya!
Another great video my man, very informative as always. Love this type as it answers questions others may feel are not "edgy" or attention grabbing enough. Keep up the great work.
Thank you!
I use F-10 and Chlorohexidine. Thanks to your channel, I have Boa constrictors now. I love them and they are wonderful snakes. I am tap training while they are young. I have a columbian Red Tail female, a male Jungle, and a male and female T plus Nicaraguan hypo female and a normal male. They are both Motleys. Boas are as fabulous as you said they are.
Im so glad you said don't mix cleaners. I know vinegar and bleach in particular is really super dangerous to mix together and people have died doing it. Generally, if you aren't a professional chemist, don't mix this stuff. I know a lot more than the average person about proper cleaning and sanitization processes but most people don't bother to learn. Thank you for sharing what you have found to be safe and affordable cleaners and the positive and negatives of each. I feel hesitant to use bleach, I have a really big sensitivity to the smell. I probably will invest in chlorhexidine, since I will only have a few snakes.
Excellent video and advice brother. I'm using chlorhexidine and letting things air dry, because I can't stand the smell of bleach. I used to breed Canaries and parakeets when I was younger and a diluted bleach solution was what everyone used in the 80s. I guess I just can't get over the smell it's horrible to me evan diluted.
Very informative! Good job Jason 👏 👍
Chlorhexidine, but used F10SC for years.
Chlorhexidine is definitely more bang for your buck imo.
I'm so glad you uploaded this!!!! I've been looking for a good video on this topic!! 😍
Glad you appreciate the video in the topic! These are the video topics that never seem to do well because people don't really care about it but I know others do appreciate it!
@@JasonsExoticReptiles yeah. this is a super important topic to cover.
I use S-10 and chlorhexidine. I will clean something with S-10 then next month use chlorhexidine, and back and forth. Every so often I will use a bleach bath to clean pvc couplers, hides, and small travel shoeboxes.
Hey Jason a good mixture of bleach is 10 parts water to 1 part bleach, it will do a great job of disinfecting against all kinds of bad stuff, even human viruses. The one thing people need to know about bleach solutions is you can't store a bleach and water solution for longer than a couple of days because the bleach's efficacy will start to deteriorate. The best thing to do is mix up the exact amount you'll need for the enclosures and surfaces you'll be disinfecting that day. I'm a tattoo artist so I have to be certified in blood born pathogens and work place controls , that's where I'm getting the 10-1 ratio. I personally prefer Chlorhexidine solution myself, it's just better for use around animals with hyper sensitive respiratory systems. Thanks for the great videos!
Very good Edition! Fleets does not last long once mixed with water. I'm glad you mentioned it!
I usually use 1 part of bleach to 16 parts of water just to be safe because bleach is too strong. Now that I read your comment is it safe to use 1/10? And is 1/16 too diluted that it won't desinfect enough?
@@royalsaexotics1224 I worked at a reptile shop that had been in business for over 25 years and they had always used about 1/20 dilution, and they were well known for healthy animals. Im sure 1/16 is just fine. I can't imagine my hands if i used much more than 1/16. I'm sure 1/10 kills faster, but I'm sure 1/16 would still get the job done. Thats just my opinion though.
Chlorhexidine. That is what I use, too. I get it from the feed store. 🙂
How frequently do you replace your chlorohexidine, what is it’s shelf life?
@@plant2188 i just bought the jug 5 months ago and it is good till February 2022
Before I even get into watching the video I wanna express my appreciation for your simple intro. The cute catchy intros get annoying after hundreds of videos... So thanks for that
Haha thank you. Hopefully the quick little banner isn't too bad. I hate the long intros myself.
I’ve used vinegar for 20 years. Never had a problem but I just got my first bottle of F10 XDSD the disinfectant and cleaner in one. I’m excited to see if I see a difference. It’s really hard to get so not sure I’ll keep using it. On your recommendation I think I’ll try chlorhexidine next as it’s readily available.
Definitely try it. Chlorohexidine is cheap, safe, and smells good
Do u mix the vinegar with something and does it mess with the reptiles ?
And do u wash the vinegar off after u have cleaned it with that
@@kalebbrowland1410 yes. I wipe down with the vinegar then rinse off with clean water
@@nikkicouture1257 ok thank u
I use chlorhexadine. During covid bleach can be harder to find. Splashless bleach does not disinfect (or it doesn't say it does) On the label like bleach does! I do use both products.
Thank you! Heading out rn to buy a whole bunch of clorhexidine.
Its good stuff
@@JasonsExoticReptiles You really are a life saver! Was super nervous about reptiles until your videos! Thanks to you, my girls are thriving!
still going back and linking people to this video, and grats on your 20K subscribers
Thank you!!
Hey Jason , my name is Manuel I’m from Sydney, Australia. Love your comments on the cleaners. Yes I have been using F10 , and yes here in Australia it is very pricey. It’s great you mentioned bleach, because yes it is very cheap to buy . Thanks for your recommendations .
Great video, Jason! Thanks for the info.
I use boiling water with bleach. I use tote boxes for enclosures though. I get a big pot of boiling water going on the stove, and scupe out water with a smaller pot as I need it. I am at a high risk of getting burns though, but it is hard to be careless when you know just how bad boiling water hurts.
Nice video very informative
What about Lysol All purpose cleaner
That slimly feeling when using bleach is your skin getting turned into soap.
I just ordered some chlorhexidine and discovered that is also used in some mouthwashes for humans. That's The biggest reason I chose it over F10. I haven't seen anyone swish an F10 solution. Lol
Hahaha no swishing with f10.
It's used as a topical antiseptic on a lot of animals as well. Very common for hoof trimmers to use it when treating cows.
I use parvosal II or clorexidine or daluted bleach Used both in dog breeding f10 is just not available local like IFA ya go figure that
Yes, I have to order F10 myself
What about dawn I've used it for years and never had a problem
Dawn is a great decreases but not a disinfectant
Thanks for the video jason. What % bleach should I use?
I personally don't measure it out. I just dumped a bunch in to a big batch of water but I believe it's a 10 to 1 ratio of water to bleach
@@JasonsExoticReptiles Thanks for the reply Jason. I will definitely try it.
Hey bro i usually use f10. But i also have f10 xd but u have to rinse that better it has extra detergent in it... I also use clorahexidine. Probably butchered that ...it depends on what im cleaning or doing ..also wich animal ... Because i have to wat h what i use i also have lizards and other animals but i use them all. Every job or cage is different for me
100% agree. Some things are better than others for specific animals.
How much do you dilute the bleach?
I don’t really measure it. I just dumped a bunch into the big bucket of water. If I were to guess somewhere around 10 to one or 20 to one
Thanks for the info. by the way are you using ARS racks or freedom breeders
Freedom breeder a hundred percent and I actually just got a hold bunch of new ones in. Hopefully you will start seeing them in the background of the videos over the next month or so. I also have a nice review going to help people see what to expect when they get them in
is chlorohexadine or F10 safe for Italian Wall Lizards?
JAY PLEASE READ
, go to a local
Pool store( leslies ) and ask for a thing of chlorine , they normally come in a pack of 4 gallons for about 20$ -8$ (brand and availablity )and they are a lot more concentrated then bleach so they will give you more bang for the buck because a little bit in a bottle with water will take you a long way it’s what is used to sanitize pools to keep them clear , make sure to read the labels to know the precentage but definitely gallon to gallon drop to drop with it diluted it will save a lot more money ones we use for daily service is 50-70% active ingredient (calcium hypochlorite) and stabilizers for that (cya) make sure to keep out of sunlight tho the amount of chlorine will go down over time as it naturally goes away but it has some other detergents mixed in ..compared to bleach 2-5% chlorine ... pool service tech here ... heed my warning when I say don’t breathe the gas in and do in very well ventilated area , if you ever see this make a reaction video on my advice I’m curious about this since I use this , for a 32oz bottle I fill 32oz and roughly how every much it needs to get to total chlorine at 4ppm using a water test strip from my experience it changes alot depending on brand but get you a water test kit and chlorine from a pool store and make a review on it !!!
Hey jason do i need a heat pad for my boa if the room i keep him in is hot enough i have him in a hot room but with the heat pad his enclosure is too hot
They should always have a hot and cold end in my opinion. It depends alot on how hot your room is.
Great video. Can never go wrong with bleach. Have great day.
Is the F10 or Chlorohexidine safe for spot cleaning? I’ve seen others use the F10 when spit cleaning.
Yes it is.
Jason's Exotic Reptiles awesome!! Thanks for taking the time to share your knowledge and experience. I myself very much appreciate it.
So....with Chlorhexidine, do you soak the items in it?
A little of both. Sometimes I'll soak things like water bowls and then I'll typically wipe down the cages and let them air-dry
@@JasonsExoticReptiles Ok, perfect. So what is the dilution rate you use before you soak or clean with it? Like 1 part to 4 parts water?
What water to bleach ratio do you use?
I don’t really. Just dump the bleach in water. I’d assume about 1/20 or so??
Did any of the bug eye babies make it?
Yes most of them. Ill be doing an update video soon.
Jason's Exotic Reptiles very cool! I know I’ve kinda been pesty. But I’m super stoked for those guys.
lmao that's why I don't like vinegar can't stand that smell. Feet is what I use to describe it too.
You don’t say what dilution of bleach you use: I think this is important, as chlorine can be toxic in higher concentrations.
What ever the back of the bottle for you're specific bottle of bleach says.
And boy snake pee and poop Is rough on paper towel you know then poop soup F.M.L soon as you walk in you know one of the kids pooped in the water bowl time to go clean feeding day. And poop clean up
How much bleach do I use if I was to use a bucket???
I just eye ball it but usually a 1:10 ratio.
👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻
please add images... itd add quality to your videos, not as easy hearing and googling everything at the same time.
Good comment. Ill keep that in mind for future videos!
