  • Zugspitze - a breathtaking cable car trip
(Erlebe die Fahrt auf die Zugspitze - den höchsten Berg Deutschlands)
A short train and cable car trip from Garmisch-Partenkirchen via Eibsee to Zugspitze in 2011. This video takes you with cogwheel train from Garmich-Partenkirchen to Eibsee. From there we take the cable car up to Zugspitze. We take a short trip down at the other side to Zugspitzplatt, before returning back down in the Eibsee-Seilbahn cable car. Enjoy this video trip!

Here is some more information from www.zugspitze.de/en/ website:
Zugspitze Roundtrip - The total mountain experience
Adventure, a breathtaking view and an alpine atmosphere -- on the Zugspitze Roundtrip, you experience Germany's highest peak from diverse perspectives. Enjoy the complete mountain experience all in one day.
"All on board" -- board the cogwheel train in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Grainau or Eibsee and enjoy a comfortable ride directly to the Schneeferner glacier. From here, you can explore the high-alpine world of the Zugspitzplatt under the summit on different loop trails. The SonnAlpin Glacier Restaurant and the Glaciergarden invite you to a culinary stop.
The Glacier cable car takes you directly to the summit at 2,962 meters (9,718 feet) above sea level in just a few minutes. Enjoy the unmatched 360° panorama with a view of more than 400 peaks in Austria, Italy, Switzerland and Germany and experience history: The exhibit, "Tourism, Technology and Nature -- the Zugspitze" retraces the moving history from 1820 until today in impressive exhibits and films. Find heavenly relaxation in the informal mountaintop atmosphere of our rustic summit lodge, Gipfelalm, in Germany's highest beer garden or in the Panorama-Lounge 2962. On the peak terrace 23 mountain panoramas at nine locations explain the 360˚ views and four "Viscope" telescopes display the names of the mountain summits as you swivel them.
Ride back down in the Eibsee-Seilbahn cable car. Within view the whole time: The wild romantic lake Eibsee right at the base of the Zugspitze's mighty precipices and an overwhelming view far into the alpine foothills. From Eibsee, you can enjoy a leisurely ride back to Grainau and Garmisch-Partenkirchen on the cogwheel train.

My girlfriend and I used the railway to the Zugspitz summit and later we used the cable car to descend. Both journeys were outstanding.

My girlfriend and I went on the Zugspitze Bahn to the top but accidentally came down on the cable car but with not the slightest regret. What a trip. By doing this we had time to have a paddle boat on the lake and then a perfect meal at the hotel restaurant by the lake. I’m half German and I adore Germany.

I took the ride in 1968 on a three day pass to Garmisch while stationed in Amberg, Germany at a Hawk Missile site near the Czech border. I am afraid of heights, so it was with much trepidation that I took the cable car to the top of the Zugspitze. It was the most beautiful trip that I have ever taken and would love to go back and do it all over again. Also, went over to the Austrian side to see the view there. They had a guard station that you had to show your ID to get back to the German side. I don't think that you have to do that anymore. Loved Garmisch and the beautiful countryside and the view of the Eibsee from the top of the Zuspitze.

Great video. I did this trip last year after spending time in Munchen for Oktoberfest. Garmisch-Partenkirchen is a lovely place to stay. While you're there it's well worth taking trips to the top of Wank and the Alpspitz too.

    Hi
We could choose which way we wanted back - no extra cost. My wife does not like tunnels, but loves the view from the Eibsee Seilbahn.
For those who not like to take the Eibsee Seilbahn, this video gives them a safe ride up and down. An unforgettable ride!
    Thanks!

Looks the same as it did in 1976 when I was there in July. Stayed at a military vacation spot and the rooms were $4.00 a night back then. I was stationed in Augsburg.

Robert Hanan Nice observation; allowing for inflation the rooms ought to be $40. per night; does any reader know the true price, today, please?
I could fill my automobile for $3.60, in 1976 that car needs $50. to fill today.

HhappyBirthday That was back in the day where they had things for us soldiers to do when not working. That $4.00 was for one person and my three co-soldiers friends also paid $4.00 each to stay in a 4 man room. Was not nothing fancy. I think it even had a rest room. I remember when I went in the army, gas was a quarter or sometimes less in 1975 and in four years when I got out in 1979, it was around ,75 cent. The world has gone to shit ever since.

    Hi, thanks for the video.
From the Zugsptize.de site (the same as your +++ cut and pasted info) the indication is that you get the cog railway from Garmisch/Grainau/Eibsee to the Schneeferner Glacier, then Glacier Car to the summit, then down the Eibsee Seilbahn, then railway back. I can't find mention of getting the Eibsee Seilbahn up and down return, like you did in the video though.
How much was it? Was it an alternative included in Zugspitze Rundfahrt ticket or something else?
    Cheers!

Here’s a German joke, Where does a German train driver go for his holiday ? Answer, The Zugspitze. You don’t get it do you. The front of a German train is called the Zugspitze. Zug in German means train.
