El Condor Pasa - Ciro Hurtado

This is El Condor Pasa. I’m sure many of you know it as “El Condor Pasa (If I Could)” by Simon and Garfunkel. Paul Simon took credit for writing the song in the original album, consequently everything was settled by a lawsuit from the composer’s son.The song was originally witten in 1913 in Peru, as part of a play by Daniel Alomias Robles. Peruvians consider it second to the National Anthem. There are thousands of covers of this tune, it is the most recognizable Peruvian song in the world. Even the Muppets covered it, making a parody out of it with nonsense rhymes. if you are performing Andean music anywhere you are almost obliged to play it.

That's the most beautiful version of this song that I have ever heard. And yeah, Paul Simon seems to have a problem with taking credit for other musicians' songs- he ran into the same issue with Graceland.
