It was originally conceived as a playoff, which is why there was always the final stand-up standoff about the same topic. This wasn't an actual game show so much as a talent showcase. That's why it was so brilliant. It's unique, so far as I can see. Certainly nothing like most American gameshows like "the dating game" that were little more than modeling agencies for (please pardon the unavoidable pun) up and coming actors to gauge their visual appeal, or like "Hollywood Squares" where former stars and comedians spent the twilight years of their careers and lives clinging to the shreds of their perceived relevance in a ruthless industry.
TV gameshows in America actually began as a joint government/corporate cold war propaganda exercise against the Soviets and for home morale that also allowed American corporations to advertise their wares. After all, who believes in capitalism more than capitalists, right?
PS: The marriage of corporate and government power is, was, and will always be ...?
PPS: curious how the British game shows went for a more intellectual path, but then again, keeping up morale was important in Britain before they finally joined the EU.

After re-watching every episode I could, I've sadly realised that Andy is jealous of some of the other regular guests, such as the amazing Hugh Dennis, Milton Jones, Russell Howard & Ed Byrne. In this clip, he looks beyond pissed off during Hugh's standup. 😮
The more dimensions a comedian can show the tougher it is on him as he is one of those comedians with only a couple dimensions himself. If you watch the beginning until he left, you'll see. 👍 You noticed this. 👍🔥👍✌
