I get this is comedy, but people are acting like the end result here is actually what happens. You get a refund every year from paying too much. When you pay me too little, they tell you and then you pay. The reason they don't tell you your amount is because the amount will vary based on a myriad of different conditions.

It's kind of like a puzzle: site asks u to put in numbers in from boxes in ur W-2 form. All the boxes are labeled so u know what to put where. The government could easily deduce taxes automatically but these corporations lobby the heck out them to make money from everyone with these "we'll do ur taxes for u" services. It's silly

If you somehow get it wrong they will send you a notice and let you know you either overpaid in taxes and will give you the money back or if you underpaid they will ask for the money. You would only go to prison if you owed a substantial amount and refused to pay it over a lengthy period of time.
Not US, but I always overpay taxes just in case, because then I'll just be getting tax returns. Like ALL of my extra paid tax is going to be returned. It's just less hassle imo. Is that...not how it works over there?

Teaching you the tax code back when you were in high school what do a damn very good. They change the tax code so much that they gave 50 IRS agents one tax return to do they came up with 50 different numbers that tells you how bad the tax code is fucked up.
TurboTax made it supeeeerrrrr easy. Did it all myself at 18, only asked a few questions about words but for the most part It told me everything I needed to do and after it was done I realized it’s not easy but def not hard if you have a grown up to explain what something means or the internet to search it up. Being an adult is scary (I’m only 19 so I’ve only been legally an adult almost 2 years but still. It’s a learning process, thank god for the internet

When I filed for the first time, they got me mixed up with my dad, sent me his tax return (which was a check for more than I had made all year) and sent him an audit letter for filing twice. That was a fun 6 months fixing that.

Not entirely true. You can call them and you will immediately regret it. In 2015 they sent me a letter. It was inept and pathetic, so was my phone call to them. A complete waste of time answered, she couldn't tell me anything, she knew nothing, I believe her, she wouldn't tell me if she knew, didn't look up anything and insisted she wouldn't be able to tell me anything, didn't try at all. The letter was a fishing inquiry. Hey, this is the IRS, we don't have any idea what information you claimed on your tax return for said year. Did you amend your tax return? Mine was for a year working for a large company, everything was well documented no side buisness or questionable income and I was honest so no fooling around. They gave me two weeks to send all my paper work to prove something that they already had. Upon completing this task they sent me a letter saying ok no problem. I kept the letter.

When I got my first job I was spending about $9k a year in taxes taken directly from each paycheck. It blew my mind that $9k of my money, that I worked for was just poof, gone, never saw it. $9k is a huge amount me. That’s almost a year of rent. That’s a downpayment on a home, or a car. And to the government that $9k is sitting in some reserve, probably lost somewhere and the government has no clue where it is, or what to spend it on, and it could either go to a state of the art coffee maker in the IRS lounge, or about 5 square feet of a new highway. Taxes suck.
Here in Australia, they normally only text or email us telling us that it's Tax time. They will also email us that our tax information has been pre-prepared and we can look it up to confirm or edit it. I just submitted my Tax Return today, using the online submission system. It took me a grand total of 2 minutes from clicking Prepare Tax Return to Lodge Tax Return.
Same in Finland. If you're a normal employee, you just fill in your estimated income for the year and you're done, takes 2 minutes. Add another 2 minutes if you wanna fuck around with the different deductibles.

It's kind of like a puzzle: site asks u to put in numbers in from boxes in ur W-2 form. All the boxes are labeled so u know what to put where.
The government could easily deduce taxes automatically but these corporations lobby the heck out them to make money from everyone with these "we'll do ur taxes for u" services. It's silly
@@dylanjohnson4624 No. There are forms to fill out and the instructions are clear to anyone who's passed 7th grade. If you somehow get it wrong they will send you a notice and let you know you either overpaid in taxes and will give you the money back or if you underpaid they will ask for the money. You would only go to prison if you owed a substantial amount and refused to pay it over a lengthy period of time.

TurboTax made it supeeeerrrrr easy. Did it all myself at 18, only asked a few questions about words but for the most part It told me everything I needed to do and after it was done I realized it’s not easy but def not hard if you have a grown up to explain what something means or the internet to search it up. Being an adult is scary (I’m only 19 so I’ve only been legally an adult almost 2 years but still. It’s a learning process, thank god for the internet

When I filed for the first time, they got me mixed up with my dad, sent me his tax return (which was a check for more than I had made all year) and sent him an audit letter for filing twice. That was a fun 6 months fixing that.
Its not that they dont care. The irs has been underfunded and under eployed for DECADES. Like each worker is responsible for like 1000 cases daily. That is why they are rising its funding this year.

It's not really useful it's just that the system set up to pay taxes is useless. You also can't really teach about investments because its all a gamble one way or another, that's why you pay for financial advisors who can explain the risks and know what to invest in.

Ironically all that happens in real life is the IRS will send you a letter telling you how much you owe. Realistically most people get a tax returns to the IRS just gives you less money back. The joke only applies to people making like $400,000 plus a year. You also wouldn't go to jail unless you just actively chose to not pay.

Not entirely true. You can call them and you will immediately regret it. In 2015 they sent me a letter. It was inept and pathetic, so was my phone call to them. A complete waste of time answered, she couldn't tell me anything, she knew nothing, I believe her, she wouldn't tell me if she knew, didn't look up anything and insisted she wouldn't be able to tell me anything, didn't try at all. The letter was a fishing inquiry. Hey, this is the IRS, we don't have any idea what information you claimed on your tax return for said year. Did you amend your tax return? Mine was for a year working for a large company, everything was well documented no side buisness or questionable income and I was honest so no fooling around. They gave me two weeks to send all my paper work to prove something that they already had. Upon completing this task they sent me a letter saying ok no problem. I kept the letter.

Like wtf, they sent a letter. Couldn't understand it because they gave 5 reasons. Well long story to short. Had yo get a cpa to help us out. When I got my first job I was spending about $9k a year in taxes taken directly from each paycheck. It blew my mind that $9k of my money, that I worked for was just poof, gone, never saw it. $9k is a huge amount me. That’s almost a year of rent. That’s a downpayment on a home, or a car. And to the government that $9k is sitting in some reserve, probably lost somewhere and the government has no clue where it is, or what to spend it on, and it could either go to a state of the art coffee maker in the IRS lounge, or about 5 square feet of a new highway. Taxes suck.

Here in Australia, they normally only text or email us telling us that it's Tax time. They will also email us that our tax information has been pre-prepared and we can look it up to confirm or edit it.
I just submitted my Tax Return today, using the online submission system. It took me a grand total of 2 minutes from clicking Prepare Tax Return to Lodge Tax Return.

It’s harder to control an educated population. That’s why the school systems have become increasingly worse over time. The more you know, the easier it is to ask the right questions. Authorities don’t like being questioned.
I think it's so the irs can squeeze some extra money. So they purposely don't tell you how to pay taxes.
