Based on the two songs i heard, this is the first time I've been super excited about a Sonata album since Pariah's Child a decade ago. What an odd, great little song. Breaks a lot of molds for typical song writing, lyrical rhyme scheme and vocal phrasing are unique and refreshing. It sounds like it could belong on their "Pariahs Child" album, which I think is their supreme masterpiece, not only song wise, but production/sound wise. This new tune is kind of proggy, kind of ballady, Queen esque, and not overly flashy on the bands end, even the guitar solo isn't demanding the listeners attention at the expense of the song as a whole, although I would have liked to hear more ripping considering the guitar is quite tame on this track. Everyone seems to be out of the others way while still contributing to the song. I'll give it a solid 7.1/10. And if is this is a taste of what the new album will be like, I'll be more than satisfied.
@@johncrichton2556 No way dude, I like ecliptica and WG, but were just another stratovarius euro power metal clone band then, there's great songs, most assuredly, but no real identity or fingerprint. The more I listen to this song, the more I get the feeling that it's about drug addiction/depression. They already touched the topic in 2001 song "sing in silence" (the monkey slowly climbed on her back", referring to drug addiction). Many parts of this song remind me of that ("On your shoulder we behold/ A monster only you can't see"..."Can we keep the rain abay/Once you were sliding away/All the way down without a rail/You tried a new way/Driving everyone away/Your eyes cannot lie like your face/There is no glory in disgrace"). You know, I wasn't fully into this song on first listen but every listen after that has seen it really grow on me. I still think the chorus is a little long, but I really like the verses and weirdly long bridge to the solo. I'm very excited for this album. Song sounds a little more like something you might hear on Pariah's Child rather than early material, but that's fine by me. We'll be getting solid variety in songwriting from the album if these first two songs are any indication. I have no idea what to expect next and that's kind of thrilling. But best of all is the mix and sound quality is way better than the last few albums. I'd love a copy of Talviyo and Ninth Hour remixed and remastered. Ninth Hour has actually turned into one of my favorite Sonata albums over the years.
I love the songwriting in The Ninth Hour, but the audio quality makes it their worst album for me, and I am no audiophile. I need to listen to it with high-end equipment to make it bearable.
Solid tune, it carries the spirit of old Sonata Arctica well. I generally wish i can hear synth parts more, some line are hard to listen, especially harpsichord melodies. That is why i liked first two albums very much. All those blistering fast lines i hear perfectly. :) I`m glad i heard the song, it transend me to my childhood and days when i started studing , i was not parting with Ecliptica or Silence not a single day.
Met these Guyz at town pump whitefish while working there while taking care of my parents on hospice just before they died. They gave me a guitar pick and pointed at Big Mountain sayin' " we've traveled all over North America and this is the only sight that reminds us of home" 🕯️🙏🕯️
This band is so close and dear to my heart. Cannot wait for the new album! I liked the songs in the last album, but the production and the sound were a total mess. It seems those issues were indeed corrected for this album.
I keep wondering why people keep saying they went back to their roots, these new songs sound nothing like ecliptica or silence... Had my hopes up thought.
Didn't get it either. This sounds like some weird meshup of their B-side ideas with clumsy lyrics. I hate cheesy Power Metal, but Sonata Arctica were always more complex than that.
If anything it seems more like Unia and somewhat Reckoning Night - a blend of the melodic power metal and early progressive elements from 18-20 years ago which to me is Sonata at their best.
This is definitely a mix between Unia and Talviyo. The former album I love, the latter not as much. One thing that SA fans seem to forget is that even their earlier albums were about 30-40% mid-tempo and ballad tracks. It was not 100% speedy power metal. With that said, I'd be lying if I said this track isn't overall a bit of a letdown - not because of its speed, but simply the melodic punch isn't there. It's not a bad song by any means, though, and the keys are quite nice.
Tony is challenging the fans again... Listen to the latest Nightwish, and they have more of a mature and a bit eccentric way of doing the lyrical melodies, to which maybe Tony is taking partial direction on... It is seemingly different but familiar, and I think that is part of the goal here... Maybe some Queen inspiration is thrown in for good measure as well...
I discovered SA during their TDOG-album and went back to their whole catalogue. I easily called them my favorite band for years because I could relate so much to the deep lyrics, the dark and layered music, the heart-breaking ballads aswell as the energetic power metal songs. Still, their midtempo songs were my favorites (Blinded No More, Gravenimage, Broken,...) Since SGHN, I am having a hard time to connect to their songs. Not because they are bad (because they surely aren't) but I felt a certain switch in the depth of the lyrics and melody lines. The older lyrics were very open to imagination and everyone could interpret their own meaning and emotions into them despite the fact that Tony had his very own stories behind them. The lyrics now tend to be straight forward, and if you can't connect to the topic, you're out. For example, I don't have kids, so how can I relate to songs like I Have A Right or A Little Less Understanding? But since I'm a very lyric-driven person, this is an important point for me. The only thing that could help me out is a heartfelt melody that gets stuck in my mind and soul. I could only find a few of these in the later albums. Of course, there are exceptions, like Til Death's Done us Apart or We Are What We Are. Long story short, I am looking very forward to the new album in big hopes for more soul hymns :)
@@sarandaperez3923 I agree about the lyrics having declined in quality a bit. Even as a parent, those tracks you mentioned don't really hit me in the "feels" too much, as the themes are pretty safe and generic (such as "I Have a Right").
So after all these years, Sonata Arctica finally reacts to all the RUclips Comments of people liking the older music and hating the new stuff. Personally.. I came between the new and the old and it's just the same to me. xD
Already liked First In Line, but this one is amazing! Really love how the structure is changing during the song, finally the mixing sounds clear, it has that "wintry" feeling and Toni's vocals are beautiful! 🤍🐺❄️ My personal favourite Sonata-era are the albums from Winterheart's Guild to The Days of Grays, and both of these new singles do remind me of their feeling, which I love. Can't wait for the whole album 🎵
First impression of the lyrics - it sounds like the narrator is speaking to their own internal 'monster'. Criticising their past actions and acknowledging that they've been protected, tolerated and indulged by their peers, despite going off the rails and making some bad decisions. Great tune IMO and hopefully lots more to look forward to from Sonata.

Met these Guyz at town pump whitefish while working there while taking care of my parents on hospice just before they died. They gave me a guitar pick and pointed at Big Mountain sayin' " we've traveled all over North America and this is the only sight that reminds us of home"
🕯️🙏🕯️
This band is so close and dear to my heart.
Cannot wait for the new album!
I liked the songs in the last album, but the production and the sound were a total mess.
It seems those issues were indeed corrected for this album.
Keep the road!
This track really resembles old Sonata Arctica, and the production is super clean. I am anxious to listen to " Clear Cold Beyond"
No, clean your ears
@ScrewDJ_McDuck Go and clean your brain, you toxic waste of oxygen. You have no right to be this hurtful to people who are just enjoying music
It's a miracle! the beautiful love child between Nightwish and old Sanata😊
Sonata Arctica are the best ,i have see you in Aschaffenburg it was a great show. Come again
Welcome back, Sonata Arctica. Here I am too!
These albuns are just what I don't like in Sonata
Amazing Job ❤️
Magnificent 👍
So after all these years, Sonata Arctica finally reacts to all the RUclips Comments of people liking the older music and hating the new stuff. Personally.. I came between the new and the old and it's just the same to me. xD
Already liked First In Line, but this one is amazing! Really love how the structure is changing during the song, finally the mixing sounds clear, it has that "wintry" feeling and Toni's vocals are beautiful! 🤍🐺❄️
My personal favourite Sonata-era are the albums from Winterheart's Guild to The Days of Grays, and both of these new singles do remind me of their feeling, which I love. Can't wait for the whole album 🎵
You know exactly what you are talking about. Thank you, that's also my view! 👍
Awesome, what a great major piece. Sonata Arctica is immortal.
The official SA websitew has this.
Front-man Tony Kakko explains: “How we all may have in our group of friends that one person who seems to be a magnet for all kinds of problems, many of which he/she may not even see himself/herself. Maybe you’re that one? You might be an asshole, but you’re OUR asshole and we can see through all that, see the real you, and help. And when children arrive to the scene, they all fit under that same umbrella. Don’t worry. We’ll kick your butt up that hill.”
Esse cara é uma maquina de fazer melodias! takeu pariu! Longa vida ao Sonata!
I'm really enjoying this song, I'd say this takes a lot of what You've been working on the last few years, refined it, and made it a little heavier. Excellent work, though I'm a more biased SA fan 😅so I may not be the best judge.
Awesome 👍
Maravilhoso, como sempre são.
This is definitely different than what I expected. I expected a lot more heavier and fast.
Obrigado muito bom
UP Sonata Arctica!!!
Incrível! A melhor banda de metal melódico sem dúvida nenhuma.
Brasil mandou um abraco
