  • The New IKEA SJÖSS USB-C chargers lineup just came out, they start at just 6€ for the 30W single port model and go up to 10€ for the 45W dual port. Inside they have all the safety features you'd expect, with the 45W model also having additional heatsinking.
    On the 30W the main switching IC is labeled KP2202SSG AQ8JR2.1 while the USB-C controller is labeled SW2303.
    More details regarding the 45W model will follow.

    I just got a 45W for $15 in the US. Love the dual port setup. It charges my iPhone 13 Pro Max and M1 MacBook Air without any issues. It doesn't over heat and feels heavy and premium. Apple's own dual port charger costs $60. What a bargain.

    Great video! Ikea electronics never fail to impress. Just got myself the 45W charger as well. Really a bargain and you can be sure it won’t burn down your house :D

    Thank you so much. I was in between this or buying Anker and had doubts about build quality. But this looks very good especially considering the price!

      Yeah, unless you go for Apple or brands like that you’re better off with this one, similar quality at a much lower price

      Anker is as good as Apple and in my opinion better. Having tried many models of Anker chargers they dont disappoint. Though these ikea chargers look better than Chinese replica ones 😂

      @@arturgjoni8881\The charger wasn't yet in stock so I ordered an Anker 65w charger for €23. I'll get the IKEA charger later as a lower capacity secondary. Needed something as permanent power supply for my Steam Deck, so I think going for Anker is a good choice. With it being made for 65w I won't be having overheating issues as Steam Deck takes 45w when charging and running games.

    My MacBook Pro is apparently pulling 54W from the 45W charger.

    • @FrancescoF
      @FrancescoF  2 месяца назад +1

      If you are measuring it from the wall you also need to add efficiency losses in power conversion, it’s normal that under full load a 45W power supply would pull more than 45W from the wall. That 45W is referenced to the output not the input

      There used to be stickers for marking which charger went to which device, the same thing usb-c should solve

    I am a bit hesitating about Sjöss, because it has maximum operating temperature just 35°C. I might be sometimes close to the limit during summer. Not sure how much should I care about that.

    • @FrancescoF
      @FrancescoF  3 месяца назад

      That number is for meeting the reliability standards, I’m sure it will work at higher temperatures too, especially with a reduced load. (Like 20W on the 45W unit)

    Does your charger (the 30W one) also make a little buzzing sound when plugged and in use? Is it normal?

    • @FrancescoF
      @FrancescoF  4 месяца назад +2

      Yes it does, it should be normal based on the switching frequency that they are using. Sadly I do agree that the noise is rather annoying if you have it near you

      @@brnerproduction4739you should move that charger farther away from your head while its under load. I believe a proper EMI measurement could prove that it has a strong field on such close distance. While scientists debate whether it has an effect on health or not, everyone only has 1 life, and cancer sucks. So its not a big price to pay if I move everything electricity-related farther away from my head&body while sleeping. The same applies to laptops: their battery, when under dischardge or charge, also has a stron electromagnetic field. Wouldnt put them in my lap, where the reproductive organs are. Not a big sacrifice, if put on a tray, or table instead.
