There is a song that is always sung on may 1 that is always emotionally moving (at least for me). It used to be end of school, summer is coming, love and much more. There are several versions of it here on RUclips. “Längtan till landet” - Swedish Walpurgis eve song
It's also pretty standard that this is held in areas where people own their own houses. After winter when they clean up their yards they use those materials to build the bonfires, at least where i live.
this was much more fun 30 years ago, the bonfires were much larger and more fun.... Back then, as a kid we bought firecrackers and fireworks. THIS was the night to use them not really new year... Nowadays its more restricted, and kept safe...
Agreed, the highlight was always the fireworks and a huge gathering at the huge community bonfire. With fireworks banned it's not as much fun anymore. Although now i've outgrown it by many years, but the newer generations will miss out.
No way, didn't know that sweden, finland and estonia celebrates this too. In Germany it is called Walpurgisnacht or dance into the may. I love it, all federal states in Germany have the day off on May 1st; But because that is Labor Day, but it fits.
A song that is very much a staple at Valborgsmässoafton is "Vintern Rasat" (Winter Is Gone). It's written by Ollo Lindblad in 1857 and often sung by a xhoir by the bon fire. This is a recoded version with a translation of the lyrics ruclips.net/video/KHoD57k3N7Y/видео.html. This is how it usuallt sounds and looks on the night ruclips.net/video/zj10eGkbsds/видео.html
A Noite de Santa Valburga ou Santa Valpurga (do alemão: Walpurgisnacht) é uma festa tradicional pagã cujas origens remontam em parte ao paganismo, celebrada na noite de 30 de abril para 1 de maio.
