Second it makes a lot of things make sense and really adds to the plot and story. Many movies had it seems really don't this movie it does. A movie that may be hard to find but is one of my all time medieval movie favorites since I was a kid is called "The Warlord" with Charleton Heston, Richard Boone and Guy Stockwell. The brother who resents taking care of the other who, in turn, resents being taken care of is just one of the really good storylines. As you said, a grim story. Based on a tragedy "The Lovers, if I remember correctly. I met Heston when I was 18, he came to speak at my school. I had maybe 10 seconds with him and told him I thought he was great in that movie. @@HistorySpark It's not that I don't like Outlaw King. I am just a big fan of Ridley Scott's epics and think that the director's cut of Kingdom of Heaven is a better movie and cinematic experience.
EDIT: While I do enjoy Braveheart and Kingdom of Heaven a lot more than Outlaw King, I do give the latter credit for being more historically accurate than the former two. I do, however, think the other two are superior in storytelling, with Kingdom of Heaven striking a good balance between historically accuracy and storytelling.

They showed the dynastic struggles, the battles over dogma in the church, and, what happens when the power of the state opposes the power of the church.
