My friend and I started a 365-day challenge. Where we post 1 photo a day, we happen to do photography, for a year. It has helped me grow more than I ever expected and not much in followers but to understand what types of photos I like to take and helped grow my photography skills. Not everyone is phenomenal but I have started getting some awesome shots that I enjoy!
So how do you know what to shoot? I wanna up my game and learn more. Wish I had someone to intern with. Or is there like a app for it? I just get so mixed up with everything I don't know what to do :'). What is your instagram btw? I am curious to what you made.
THIS IS SOO HELPFULLLLL.. Not really interested in growing my anything, but it's inspiring and I do definetly agree that having focus is key, not just in this, but anything. Been reminded of that again and again, and again till it finally stick.
Bro. I needed to see this. These concepts began clicking with me for RUclips in the past few weeks. I am a Twitch streamer with a Digital Marketing degree and I have an endless passion to learn new ways to create digital content. I’ve never thought to share those photos or edits or those clips that make me gitty. This realization spurred me to create a digital art portfolio to express my work, and merchandising for some of the Twitch emotes and logos I’ve created on my own. I always post teasers at the beginning of the video as attention getter, but I should share those because Those are my favorite parts. I appreciate that you went back to the roots and instead of boasting your legitimate growth on this channel and have become a public figure in the social media platform, you’re telling people to be organic, creative and show us what truly matters to them. If anything, it’ll challenge 99% of the people that watched this to face the fact that they may not even be sure what that is yet. Keep up the dope looking slides. Would LOVE to learn some of those sick transitions with that high quality equipment. Those trapped me in this haha. Question if you do somehow come across this: Is there a boundary that you choose not to post if you love something you created. Like where does your niche end?
Your passion comes through your photos and videos for sure, and that is why I watch. I started watching for the content. I kept watching for the passion. There is so much negativity in the world, your channel is often times a breath of fresh air.
I think the biggest point is just to enjoy making content. It’s so hard if you have the wrong motivation and it makes your mind go fully in the wrong direction in generall.
Without a cap you look a lot better Peter. I always thought you had no hair left 😁 Thank you for your honesty. Advice from other RUclipsrs are more like clickbaits. Believing in yourself and doing what you like is better than just engaging with subscribers and likes. Honesty and sincerity are the best policy.💡

Good to hear from old Pete after a long time. Someone I connected to a few years ago.. who wasn't doing things over the top, who wasn't spending all the money, who was just INSPIRING me!
Thank you for making this video Peter. I think it’s a topic people need to hear in this day and age. When I first got into the social media sphere I started an automotive based account where I told the history and stories behind cars and the people who brought them to life. I specifically decided on this niche because every other car account was just posting “🔥 tag a friend who likes this car” and saw no value in that. I saw immediate growth (1,000 new followers per week) and thought I was onto something. I spent the first year (now I realize it was a foolish endeavor) trying to monetize the page but struggled to make ends meet and burned through my savings. So instead of trying to monetize the page directly I started using it as a resume to get new full-time jobs in an industry I had no experience with and that worked well for me. At the same time my page was starting to loose traction and I was beginning to feel a bit stale on the theme of my page. I wanted to start shooting video but it was such a daunting task, I never did it. So I stopped posting. During that same time I fell into a deep depression. Within a month my girl friend broke up with me, my house was threatened by the biggest fire in California’s history, my grand mother died and I was unable to attend her funeral (she is Italian and lived in Florence, Italy), then a girl I met after my girlfriend and I broke up passed away in a mudslide caused by the fires the month previous. A month after that I was fired from my job and needed to move in with my parents. I eventually got help from a therapist and the support of my family (as well as watching yours and other creators RUclips videos) to help reinvent myself. I decided to tackle the fear of video and started a video series on RUclips that worked with my Instagram account. 7 or 8 videos in and I not only made some of the strongest bonds and friendships with my subjects, I’ve been able to convert these videos into jobs that have paid my bills for the last three months. So I guess my point is, don’t view yourself as a failure if you don’t have a large following. Don’t only view social media as a way to make yourself rich and famous because it can be useful in other ways. use it as a tool to further your goals and aspirations in your career. Use it to network and form relationships with like minded people and as a resume for your work. Or simply as a creative outlet to express yourself. Long rant over lol. Thanks Peter for all the inspiration and passion, the world needs more PMs! 👊🏻
Peter has really helped me with photography and filmmaking, and so many of my friends have come to me asking where to go to begin learning how to make videos like I do, or take photos like I do, and I immediately send them Pete's channel (and to Matti). It's awesome seeing my friends also get into video and learn from Pete.
All of the instagram talk was great, Ive been feeling super down on my IG after the growth drastically slowed down in the last two months. Analyzing the data too much on top of all of the other hard to swallow things going on in the world has made for headache of a few months. Thanks for the honesty Pete.
I have always learned something from Peter McKinnon's videos, but the main reason I will always check them out is because of his great enthusiasm, positive attitude and his unique way with words. I can count on his videos to improve my attitude du jour.
Pete-you inspired me to do deck photography after seeing your photos for Ellusionist! I’ve spent quarantine building up my account and I started posting daily-I just got my first two business requests, and I couldn’t have done it without your advice and lessons.
Looking good Pete!! This is so weird that you have made this video! I decided at the start of the 2020 to start my photography business, reason behind was that I was getting jobs without any advertising or speaking to anyone about it. What happened was something I didn’t even imagined in my worst dream - I have been quite depressed and stressed, I deleted everything related to it and stopped. I stopped because I realised that I did so much energy into something I didn’t enjoy - I realised it only now, but I’m a lot better now, I have had chance to speak to people I haven’t seen in a while and understood a lot about goose who i saw more often. It’s weird that you made this video, because I feel like I just went through all that and here I am, ready and watching this with such a different perspective as a whole! Much love Pete! Sending some positive vibes to you and Fam from Australia! Take care! Andžs
i left social media behind about 5 years ago at this point bc it was just a lot of negativity i didnt need but lately ive been considering getting instagram again

Great timing thanks for all the useful info Pete! Astrophotography is my thing just got first T6 for Christmas 2019 also a cooled astro camera. I just started an Instagram a few months ago currently 117 followers. I just saw something cool and wanted others to see it. To me it's very calming to image under the night sky! Have a good one all clear skies!

Peter so timely! you are one of the reasons why I was inspired to start to be a photographer 2 years ago! Now I take wedding photos for a living here in Manila Ph, Keep Inspiring Man!
love this! I have been following you for years! Before you had hit 1M subscribers - I was looking for an adobe premier pro tutorial about video stabilization and from then on I was hooked! I have learned so much from you - from learning to take better photos to stepping up my editing game. I have been running my small business instagram page for about 9 years and it's been a challenge to grow. At first I didn't know about hashtags - so I screwed myself over when the algorithm was chronological and now with the ever changing way instagram operates - it's a challenge to get exposure and engagement. But we just have to keep on swimming. Wishing you all the best Peter. Thank you for all you share!
Been doing RUclips for like 2 years now, I’ve watched so many of your videos to get better cinematic content! Finally hit that 1k and I can’t wait to grow 🙌🏼
I feel like my issue is I’m all over the place, I do street photography for a month and then landscape and then portraits lol so I’m just all over the place lmfao
Im stuck between the "consistency" and the random. I'd like to think my Instagram is decent, but sometimes I just really wanna post a pic that doest really fit in with the others.... is there some middle ground? Suggestions? @nathanielbayona
I seriously feel that! So I have two accounts, one is for mainly pictures with me and friends and on the occasion some side photo and video work, the other account is my business one where I have primarily shifted it to only my portrait work and any other videos I am making. I did recently share a flat lay on it though as that is something I find super cool and want to use in my product shooting. But I'm still all over the place. Portraits obviously change all the time but I know when I normally like to shoot them that warm feeling to them. Once fall hits it'll shift to cozier with warm and probably a little darker. Then winter will probably shift again to more cooler and brighter images... But I'm working on it and it's been going good thus far! You can check my accounts out as well ... messy_missi and missimanginovideography
@@fulldronevideo8618 I feel like it's maybe cool to set that photo on your story and make a highlight for it, or set it on one of your highlight.. Untill your feed gradually changes enough to where that picture fits.. But it's definitely not easy because when you try to stick to one theme or color scheme you actually block your creativity as to what you want to shoot or post...
@@Cinedon Great point, I've seen this happen actually with my feed sort of subconsciously. I start to notice the colors changing and eventually a picture that I've been holding onto for a while just fits.
That’s some things we already but don’t accept or forget it often on the way... and then someone like pete comes along and remind us not to be desperate and keep going with passion..
A lot of value! Thank you! I always appreciate and value your perspective. I’ve been trying to find the best route for my Instagram account. But I resonate with that message - don’t over think it, try things out, do what you love, and learn in the process.

This is our year guys, let’s get out there and start creating!
Hector Ochoa this really has not been our year tho
Krishpy I agree, but let’s still get out there !!
All of the instagram talk was great, Ive been feeling super down on my IG after the growth drastically slowed down in the last two months. Analyzing the data too much on top of all of the other hard to swallow things going on in the world has made for headache of a few months. Thanks for the honesty Pete.
No wonder you are one of the top youtubers there's value in your content
Keep it up
I have always learned something from Peter McKinnon's videos, but the main reason I will always check them out is because of his great enthusiasm, positive attitude and his unique way with words. I can count on his videos to improve my attitude du jour.
Pete: “How do you make glass blowing interesting?”
Answer: Bongs!
lol 😂
Fair enough 🤣😂
😂
Pete-you inspired me to do deck photography after seeing your photos for Ellusionist! I’ve spent quarantine building up my account and I started posting daily-I just got my first two business requests, and I couldn’t have done it without your advice and lessons.
Alright, let's find Peter's second RUclips 😂
Gracias Pete !! Siempre encuentro motivación con tus videos!
I protecc, I attacc, but most importantly, I clicc fast!
This old...(tho i liked it :P)

Take care!

“That’s the title you want to click on”, love this.
Love your videos man, they are always so sincere and informative keep up the great work
wow.. i am coming here after like 2 months... and this man has transformed from a 20 yr old goofy photographer to a 40 yr old modelling agency CEO... love this grey look tho :)
LOL
Peter so timely! you are one of the reasons why I was inspired to start to be a photographer 2 years ago! Now I take wedding photos for a living here in Manila Ph, Keep Inspiring Man!
When he makes fun of the Instagram Gurus "5 tips to get your Instagram from 0 to 1000 followers in X months" HAHAHHAHA

Great video, great tips, so much insight. Thank you, Peter.
This looks suspiciously like downscaled 8k footage with a slight R5 crop 😉
😂
So it looks like Panasonic 1080p? 😋
Joe Marano 😂😂
Nah! That thing is too busy cooling down
Spence Reyes 😂 damn that was good
Peter you killed this video man and it doesn't even have all of your usual bells and whistles- just you speaking your passionate mind!
Thank you!!
Next video: How to invest time into your passion
Don’t use “2020” in titles.Its scary!
Right? 🥺
Been doing RUclips for like 2 years now, I’ve watched so many of your videos to get better cinematic content! Finally hit that 1k and I can’t wait to grow 🙌🏼
Great message. Get reset for me. ❤️
🙌🙌
Well, I'm interested in so many different brands of Photography, but hey I'm loving it and I will keep doing what ever I want!
*Googles: "How do I invest in my passion?"... 😏
Jokes aside, that's really the important question here.
This guy is the reason why I started photography and video productions. Thank you
So, we all just gonna act like that denim jacket isn't drippin?!
it is for sure
Thank you Peter. You have been a big influence on how I perceive my life now. i am unleashing my creativity and sharing it with the world.
I feel like my issue is I’m all over the place, I do street photography for a month and then landscape and then portraits lol so I’m just all over the place lmfao
Used to love photography (30 years ago)…..fast forwarding 2021…start to dig that feeling again….
Yup, Its tough sometimes when you're following a theme but you have that one random photo thats so cool you gotta share it
@@fulldronevideo8618 I feel like it's maybe cool to set that photo on your story and make a highlight for it, or set it on one of your highlight..
I really appreciate how effectively you share your ideas and make them approachable. You’re motivating.
IG2020: “Unfortunately it does not work like that”
Awesome! Thanks Peter for speaking from your heart. You are too real! Gracias Brother.
hey, where is my favorite ''pwhats every body''😂
That’s some things we already but don’t accept or forget it often on the way... and then someone like pete comes along and remind us not to be desperate and keep going with passion..
How many times can a dude say "sphere" 😂😉
A lot of value! Thank you! I always appreciate and value your perspective. I’ve been trying to find the best route for my Instagram account. But I resonate with that message - don’t over think it, try things out, do what you love, and learn in the process.
