    Which is the best format for stone lifting to test a strongman? Watching this contest without the Atlas Stones but instead the natural stones, it is fun to see the variation and the difficult challenge they can pose. Are Atlas Stones too easily practiced and thus not enough real raw power and brain power needed each time??? Just a thought!

    • @gotzvonunentberlichingen1452
      @gotzvonunentberlichingen1452 10 месяцев назад +3

      Some variation is always great. Of course atlas stones kind of have become a mainstay in the strongman scene, but as you say, strongmen should have to think about how to lift an akward object. If everyone already knows how to pick up a log, a stone or an anvil it just becomes powerlifting with unnecessarily akward weights.
      Then again, this is strongman, not smartman. We can’t be rewarding people for cheesing the system too much because then they‘ll just end up snatching the win away from the more deserving, powerful guy, who just couldn’t figure out where to grip the damned thing.

      @@gotzvonunentberlichingen1452 yeah - its tricky to get the balance right. Clever event often backfire so I think you may be right. But then again someone figuring out how to shoulder a stone (kieliszkowski at Arnolds) or a giant natural stone that has multiple holds but nothing obviously better - until one man figures it out (Poudstone at Fortissimus) so its hard to say when its good and when its not I guess. As for too much technique and practice factor in strongman is as you say - too close to powerlifting and even weightlifting at the extreme of that. Well, my 2 pence worth is. I think at least a few of the multiple events in a contest need to be pushing the guys out of their comfort zone and out of their groove.... but then again some events demand it and are great for it - Max Log etc

      As a stonelifter myself, I'd say a combination of both regular and irregular (natural) stones. I prefer irregular stones because it's the real test of brute strength. Also in all the variations: breaking the floor, lapping, lifting to a platform, shouldering, overhead pressing, carrying for distance, throwing etc. Take Thor for example, the greatest stonelifter who there ever was and he is good at everything. Not only one or two events or variations.

      We are merely putting out our old back catalogue for fans to enjoy. First time this has gone out as a whole show. We only feature Eddie because Eddie is in it. In the next show if he isnt - we will still put him in!! Joke.... It just is what it is Connor. We cant feature Hafthor here as he didnt compete in Budapest. Hope that makes sense.

    • @giovannicupello1977
      @giovannicupello1977 10 месяцев назад +2

      Yes. I know you guys are business partners and love Eddie but Hafthor won 30 international competitions by himself and 2 more as a team - with Jarno Jokinen and Matjaz Belsak (I think they were Glenn Ross organized events/ ultimate strongman). But the truth is Hafthor won more Giants Live competitions than anyone in history and we do really miss him. Today morning also I saw a comment in Giants Live Poland competition from 2011 which asked you guys to somehow settle the beef and have Thor back. You guys did something wrong and you guys have to take the initiative to reach him. Why not going to Iceland and say hello? He is expanding his Gym these days and he is genuinely a really nice person. you know that more than us. I don't think he will treat you guys any different from the way him and his family treats any of their visitors, that is IF you take the initiative to settle the differences. Admin, please show this comment to Colin and Darren. Cheers!
