I audibly gasped in relief when I saw your video title breaking this news! As an American living in the Netherlands I have the pleasure of watching her score bangers and drop dimes on the regular. Can’t wait to see her do this for Team USA 🥹
You know ball, Jane. Girma and Yohannes are going to have enough brainpower on the pitch to power the international space station. It's going to be rad to see them develop chemistry together. Thanks for dropping knowledge in the comments! -- Grant
my first time with this channel - good scoop .... but even more a great analysis of possible evolution going forward and the 2027 lineup was very well presented with the myriad options available to Emma Hayes well called-out. It's been a week!! Glad we are so over politics for a while!!
great great point about having a *high floor* as well. don't wanna put too much pressure on the youngster, but yeah, the excitement is palpable. croix and Lily. OMG. US midfield could be diabolical. give me Gisele Thompson over nighswonger by 2027, but may be splitting hairs. just amazing potential depth.
She would have been great for Oranje, too. We had to celebrate as Americans, but I honestly would have been very intrigued to see her on your squad, too. Thanks so much for checking out the show! - Grant
It would have been understandable if Lily had chosen the Netherlands because there is a lot less competition for places. To have the confidence to believe that she can make her name with such a stellar and experienced USA squad is amazing. May the Gods of football bless her with the best of health! And happy birthday to you guys! I wasn't there from the first show, but I haven't missed one since I found it. Good luck to Lily all the best to you guys!
Lily is a gem. A very talented footballer beyond her age. A truly generational talent. Happy we got her locked. It would have been criminal for the USSoccer to let her slip away. We got something to celebrate for.
Have to think Hayes helped sell the vision to Yohannes, for sure. And thanks for the birthday wishes and being a cool contributor to the community. We seriously appreciate it! -- Grant
agreed - though your idea wasn't presented it is obvious that Emma's respect for the Yohanes family decision making time pre-Olympics and obviously keeping in touch had to be a key in making the USWNT decision by Lily. Emma Hayes is a gem. I will hope that an official presser comes up with more info.
Definitely good news for the future of the USWNT. She's a talent with a very high ceiling. I wonder if Emma Hayes will invite her to the next camp for the games with England and Netherlands. I tend to think not - it's a pretty short runway for games that Hayes has said will not be very experimental. Can't wait to see her transition to the team in whatever time frame.
Philip, you absolute legend. Always good to have you rocking with us. Thanks for the birthday wishes, pal. Looking forward to talking more football with you. -- Grant
It's great for Emma that Lily chose uswnt. She has a great pass and a good sense of space. Her only weak point is her physical strength. She will need to step up physically to win balls in midfield. But she is very young and has time for it. For me, Emma will have to choose between Lily, Sam Coffey and Corbin Albert. Only two of these 3 players will be able to play in the starting team.
Ooooooookkkkaaaaayyyyyy!!! Okay!! Okay! I'm glad to hear that an American chose to play for America. Tough times. She could easily have chosen to make the netherland great again.
We. Need. More. Backliners. The mid and front are just crazy deep. We need to develop a sweeper to work with Girma and a 6 badly. After Coffey who is there? I wonder if Emma will convince some players to move back? I could see Williams as a sweeper because of her crazy work rate but sweepers need to see and play angles. Don't know if she can or wants to do it.
It's taken too long to reply to this, but you're onto something, here. I think Sams is an obvious choice to join the backline, which then pushes Davidson into a bench role to provide some depth. But then Krueger is getting toward the end of her career, so a replacement will be needed there. I think it's definitely on the board that Hayes asks players to adjust a bit. Correct me if I'm wrong, but was she the first coach to move Crystal Dunn to left back when she played at Chelsea? I think I've heard she did that before Jill Ellis did at the 2019 World Cup -- but I only followed USWNT from like 1999-2015, so my historical reference on the domestic leagues in that time is lacking. Either way, I think you're right that the backline must be addressed. Thanks for the good point and for checking out the show. -- Grant
i know we are looking to 2027 and our current midfield would be older but is there a chance that Rose Lavelle and Lindsey Horan make the 2027 roster?cause 23 players go and they both have been in form
decent likelihood both could make the bench.....barely! Best midfield in a 4-3-3 will be Hershfelt as a defensive midfielder, flanked by Johannes and Macario as offensive midfielders. Coffey and Albert will back up for 2-pivot lineups, and Croix will back up for offensive lineups.
Ooof. I mean, if they need time to work her into the squad, that'll be understandable, but a full-time bench role would be an enormous waste. Let's hope Emma isn't thinking that way. Thanks for checking out the show! -- Grant
Now, Uswnt for 2027 World Cup . It looks like make form it is really a big impact, and Lily Yohannes made it for this team ,her passing ball abilities with those forward position speed players like swanson, Rodman, and Sofa it's a big and a good change coming for Uswnt.
Very excited that Lily has made this decision. I am curious if this means that she's guaranteed a spot on the roster rather than having to earn the spot as does every other player (and continue to earn a spot)...
I think that's a good question to ask, Rumble. I feel like that's a primary piece when college football coaches are recruiting young players, and that translates to these situations in international football, too. When it comes to Emma Hayes, I have to think every player has to earn their spot, no matter what. And based on what we know about Yohannes' mindset and the support system she has around her, I suspect she doesn't want anything to be handed to her. She'll want to continue to improve and let her play on the field dictate her playing time. Thanks for kicking it with us! -- Grant
I like this comparison. I'm definitely going to mention this on our next USWNT show, and I'll be sure to shout you out. Thanks for hanging out with us! -- Grant
Let's face it...we all hoped she chooses the USWNT.......but its sweet to know that for sure!!!.....the USWNT will win the next WC, you can bank on it!
Love the prediction three years ahead of the tournament. We can be as bold as we want after this announcement. Do you think Spain will still be the top-competition, or do you see someone else bubbling up? - Grant
There will be challenges for sure!....In S America for example, two teams will have forceful challenges for sure......right now I see these two teams (Brasil, Colombia) who can mount a serious challenge, but the Europeans will probably have the most serious challenges against the US.......I see multiple teams who are but one or two players away to just break out of the pack.....heck that's how Spain came to prominence too, but others could follow suit.....Spain, Germany, Sweden, The Dutch, England and the French are the teams who right now are the primary candidates.....and of course my sentimental favorite......JAPAN! You can never write them off.......still, with Lily Johannes, the US is still is my favorite......btw.....I would love to see you guys predict the starting 11 for the US, for the next two games......I love what Emma Hayes is doing.....try out as many players she wants to see, for the WC is still 3 years away......here's my starting 11....Naeher, Fox, Gaetino, Girma, Nighswonger, midfield Horan, Lavelle, Johannes, forwards.....Shaw at #9, Thomson on the left......but who will play on the right?....unsure of that, maybe you guys have someone in mind?....Love to hear your take, and thanks for the great job you all do!..
Good shout, Ronald. We definitely should have mentioned her. She played well for Bay FC, so it'll be good to see her get some run. What do you think she'll bring to the squad? Thanks for checking in with us. -- Grant

There is SO MUCH TALENT coming through this team and you nailed it: Emma Hayes is exactly the right person to guide it.
Lily saw the week we had here at home and gave us a gift. Welcome Home Lily 💙. LFG🔥
Massive, massive news. OMG, our midfield is going to be amazing. With her ability on the ball and passing range - man o man, I can’t wait.
I love that ya’ll have committed to covering women’s soccer-happy one year!!!
Very much appreciated, Shdoeb! Thanks so much for kicking it with us! -- Grant
I. Am. SCREAMING. 🎉🎉🎉
Omg that lineup tho
Same! 😂
That interchange when Girma steps up in the midfield & Lily drops into the CB role of the back 3 😍 cook Emma

Love you guys. Time to celebrate! That’s the news we’ve all been waiting on. You guys called it.

She brings the whole level up. She's European football in the middle. She makes it look easy. Calm.
Happy birthday to your channel! Big fan from Latrobe Pennsylvania ⚽🇺🇸
You're a legend, Carlo. Thanks for always rocking with us!

Gisele Thompson is a great shout. Definitely won't be surprised when she's challenging for a roster spot soon. - Grant
You should be at least as excited as we are disappointed here in the Holland ;)
She would have been great for Oranje, too. We had to celebrate as Americans, but I honestly would have been very intrigued to see her on your squad, too. Thanks so much for checking out the show! - Grant
Amazing news from Lily!!!!!! It's very interesting how long she'll stay with Ajax and where she'll go eventually. Her contract ends in July, 2026.
Guessing she will stay in Europe to win a Champions League.
what awesome news! Maybe Lily would have gone this way regardless but Emma Hayes being USA coach sure did not hurt
It would have been understandable if Lily had chosen the Netherlands because there is a lot less competition for places. To have the confidence to believe that she can make her name with such a stellar and experienced USA squad is amazing. May the Gods of football bless her with the best of health!

Superstar in the making.💙🇺🇸🍾🥂
I love the enthusiasm and the analysis. Thanks for helping to make it fun.
Thanks so much, David. We appreciate the kind words!
What a good little bit of news. Our national team will be fine, we do at least have that much.
Great news! Another Emma Hayes masterstroke? And happy birthday ITC🍻

You guys got me so pumped!!! I can’t wait to see what this team does with its embarrassment of riches.
It's definitely look very promising! Thanks for rocking with us! -- Grant

She's in already....
Like your line up 🙂
Possibly the greatest birthday present ITC could've asked for. Here's to many more! 🎉

OT but love the set up. More depth in USA camps and Tourneys equal more interest and investment into NWSL!
USA are in new golden age
If we reward her with a bench role I'll be gutted.

Nice to have an answer to Sam Mewis exit from the national team.
