- PERMANENT nerve damage from chemo? The cancer hangover continues
Malin & Tom
Malin is suffering with nerve damage after her long battle with colorectal cancer, caused by chemotherapy. Pain, numbness and pins & needles are all present in her hands and feet, and the doctors think it could be permanent. Just another chemotherapy side effect! But we're making it better wherever we can, with vanlife and Swedish nature.
Malin has been battling colon cancer for over a year (diagnosed in October), and she's had radiation therapy, chemotherapy, an unplanned emergency operation, and finally a scheduled surgery to remove the tumour causing her colorectal cancer. She's now been told that her treatment is done and to focus on recovery.
But, we're still feeling the after effects of chemotherapy, and cancer in general. Mental health is a primary concern, but the physical hangover is still there too. We're now focusing on getting her fully recovered, and spending as much time vanlife-ing in our campervan.

Who are we?
------
We are a young 'Swenglish' adventure family, that consists of Swedish Malin, English Tom, and babies Charlie & Isabella, who are half and half. We love all kinds of adventures, including travelling around Sweden and beyond in our little budget family campervan, and we're currently building our dream campervan project.
But right now we’re focused on one thing: to be free of cancer. We've been on the journey to recover since Malin received her colorectal cancer diagnosis in late 2022.

I’m back lol. QUESTIONS: 1. How long have you and Malin been together? 2. How and where did you two meet 3. Do either of you work? 4. Have you sold your house, and if so what’s your plans ? 5. Sorry, but I don’t remember your children’s names? 6. Do you Tom and Malin ever get to go camping just the two of you for a night or so?
It’s so beautiful seeing the 2 of you smiling with such freedom and having such a great time out in nature with the little ones. Always enjoy your videos. Well, I didn’t ☺️ enjoy seeing Malin and you going thru your Ca. Journey, but enjoyed seeing how strong you was going thru it. I didn’t mean that in a negative way. It hurts my heart so deeply to see so many young women and men battling Ca. But it’s with great Joy to watch you come out with Victory.
I am sorry about your neuropathy, Malin. I hope it mends itself with time. I have one question, it is a bit personal, so you don't have to answer it, but how did you guys meet? Would love to know if you feel like sharing. :)
That was exactly what I was going to ask! So good question!!
I’m so sorry Malin that you are suffering from neuropathy. I have neuropathy because of diabetes; I’ve had it for years. If they gave you gabapentin, it will help with the pain. I’ve noticed a few people have also mentioned ice packs-they also work really well on the foot pain. I haven’t found anything other than the meds that work on the hands. I just wanted to tell you how much I appreciate you and Tom sharing your family time with us in these beautiful locations. Your family is so precious… Your children are priceless! I’m a housebound elder woman, and it’s been many years since I’ve been able to enjoy the outdoors the way you both are doing with your family. Every moment is a picture you’ll want to save in your mind! Prayers for all of you 💛💛💛
So sorry to hear that you also have these issues. Thank you for the tip, I’ll definitely look into ice packs! Never heard about it before today.
And thank you so much for this lovely comment! We’re so happy that you enjoy watching these videos as much as we enjoy doing them🧡
She looks great after what she's been through.
I'm so sorry about your neuropathy. What a beautiful attitude you've always got. True inspiration. I'm sending prayers and healing wishes your way. Blessings to you and your family 💜
Great to see you all looking so very happy. Bless you all
Malin your looking radiant ....absolutely glowing...so lovely to see you recovering so well....love from Ireland 🇮🇪☘️💜🕯
Sorry Sweet pea….I’m going through similar issues from chemo. I have no sensation in my feet or my fingertips and my brain doesn’t function like it did before. I’m having to cancel or postpone getting my PhD. Chemo is tough, but really it’s the aftermath that’s worse…..on the hand, really glad to still be here :)
Sorry about the nerve damage but at least the pins and needles encouraging. If you are willing to share, I and I think some others would love to know how you met and got together. How did Tom come to be i Sweden or was it the other way round? You are such a lovely family.
Such a beautiful family!!
So sorry that you have constant pain in your feet Malin. Hoping that this eases up and goes away entirely in time! You've been through so much and it's so nice seeing you outside enjoying nature and your family after your hospital visit! I would love to know more about how you guys met and what your hopes are for the future! 💞
My mom took high amounts of B vitamins. That what her oncologist said to do and the numbness went away over time. 🙏🙏
What did you both do before RUclips?
I have not been watching your videos for very long, but it is lovely to see Malin able to enjoy the outdoors and be active so soon after major surgery. It looks like recovery is going well.
I am guessing you live in Sweden. I am in Canada, where we have public healthcare, and I am wondering about the healthcare system where you are. Have you found that it has met your needs during your cancer journey up to this point, or has it been lacking?
Hoping for a very bright future for you all, with good health and lasting peace.
So sorry about the neuropathy.....sending gentle hugs your way......remember to breathe...💖
You are both so inspirational and I appreciate you sharing so much of your journey over the last very difficult months.❤ I think it helps us all believe we can face the challenges in our lives. I am curious about where you plan to travel with your camper van? As you continue to heal and ease back into things, where are you excited to go? And will you have a home base you go back and forth to or is it just always moving onward? Thank you!!
It's wonderful that you are so close to a beautiful lake and nature.Malin you are absolutely beautiful. On " Midsommar Afton" i can picture you with a wreath of Swedish Wildflowers in your hair! I enjoyed how Charlie and Bella' closed' your family vlog this time ~ Happy adorable kids!! ~ Q & A: Does Tom like the Swedish foods? Like "Sill" and" Sur Stromming"...Lol. Happy Summer from a former Swedish lady living in Canada. xx
What a beautiful and positive woman you are Marlin. So strong and brave. I love how you go to such a nice place after a hosp appoint. You channel is growing really well. ❤❤❤❤❤❤
Has Tom experienced any culture shocks moving from the UK to Sweden? I’m from the southern USA, and will be moving to Sweden to be with my Swedeheart❤ in the coming years, and it makes me so nervous! Are you comfortable speaking Swedish? And if so, how long did it take?
So wonderful to see your children, they are so beautiful and absolutely precious! Love your videos!
When I go back to the oncologist for my three month checkups I feel a little PTSD….it all comes back to me and I feel all the feelings again….😮. I have neuropathy in my feet….mostly the toes going numb but no pain….prayers yours get better!! 🙏❤️🩹👍🤗❤️
So lovely to see u all enjoying. Happ days I have been thru same things regarding the chemo effects , the pain and pins and needles in my hands and feet sound just the same and feet are my worst too very uncomfortable especially at bed time so not ! I hope your nerve damage repairs itself fast for u lovely lady u have done so well luv and best wishes from Geordie land always 💞💞💞💞👍🇬🇧xxx
Hello Malin and Tom, love seeing you all out and about in nature, It soothes me because I live in London and it is always so crowded and noisy I find your outdoor adventures are a lovely antidote to that. For the future Q&A I would like to find out what you do for work, how you met, how you each learned the others language, more about life there..schools, housing ,health care , etc. Keep well x x
My neuropathy lasted about 6 months after chemo, with my feet being the worse, little by little you will notice the pain becomes less and less
What a journey you have both had with the cancer! I feel terrible for the pain you are suffering in your feet Malin, and I hope the medication gives you relief! Although I wasn't as young as you when I went through it all and I didn't have it as rough, I can relate to some of what you have been through, and you've been a strong and amazing person! My brother also dealt with colon cancer, he was first diagnosed at Stage 4, but I'm happy to say that I'm here and he's here 22 years later! Do you ever dream of coming to America or have you already been here? Is there a state or place in America you wish you could take your children to visit? Sending you prayers and love on ridding the pain from your body, but I know you got this, you're such an inspiration!
I can't comment on your latest video but just wanted to say I really appreciate the effort you guys put into your subtitles! I am a Deaf subscriber and also have cancer. You guys are amazing.
Not sure why our comments were disabled on the new one, very strange but thanks for letting us know!
That’s really nice to hear 🧡 thank you!
@@malinandtom I thought it was weird! Thank you for the reply!
I am rooting for You guys since the beginning of the cancer journey. My questions would be: what are your professions and how did You manage your professional lives and cancer treatment, and caregiving, especially with two little kids? Did You get any support from the state or your workplaces? How does sick leave work in Sweden? Here in Hungary it can be financially devastating, even with free of charge for cancer treatment itself.
Love watching your videos Tom & Malin - thank for sharing your journey so openly & honestly . The location is so beautiful- I pray that your nerve damage will be healed and that you will regain complete feeling back in your hands & feet Malin 💕🙏
Hi Tom and Malin
Nice to see the pair of you walking in the Swedish sunshine. I can understand the nerve damage as I got nerve damage in the bottom of my back that’s permanent. See you again soon with your lovey children
Much love and respect from across the waters in Uk x
I too have neuropathy after chemo. Its annoying, but you will adjust to it and find methods to refocus off the pain. I take nerve meds at night to sleep. I dont want the effect of the meds daytime. And I eat lots of greens , folic acid cant hurt right? Assess all your foot wear. Allow lots of toe room. I had to give up some favourites, even so-called comfort shoes. Continue testing what works and keeping your mind busy.
I am so sorry you guys are going through this. ❤
You are doing so well. Children are gorgeous ❤
Congratulations such a recovery! ❤
Åh vilka fina flätor du har! ❤
My chemo induced neuropathy is lifelong now. Pain meds do take edge off. Hope you have better results. I am grateful to have beaten colon cancer but the aftermath is hard as heck. Weirdly, you get used to it. Love and hugs!
You have lovely children. Cheers from Canada.
I have the same question that a lot of people have already asked and that is how you met each other. And how long you plan to do the van life now. I know you are speaking to your children in both English and Swedish. I know they are little, but do they seem to gravitate to one language or the other at this time? When they are old enough to go to school will it be a bilingual school with both languages being taught?
Cute video, love the ending with the kids 😊 question? Is Malin able to drive or is the neuropathy too bad to be able to drive? Xx
So sorry your having nerve pain, I know that must be hard especially having to chase little ones around. Hopefully it’s temporary.
My Q & A question would be, how did the two of you meet and what made you decide to start a you tube channel?
Enjoy your videos, thank you for sharing!
so glad to see you all in the van enjoying nature x Q: what jobs did you both do originally or still ?
thank you :)

Hi guys, hope both of you are good
I have neuropathy in my feet from kidney failure. Ice gel packs really help alleviate the pain.
Thank you for the advice! I’ll definitely try that!
My question is : how did you both meet and do you have other jobs apart from RUclips.
Neuropathy is horrible Malin. I have it too but mines from having MGUS. I tried medication either Pregablin or Gabepentin, cant remember which but felt the side effects were worse. Xx
I’ve heard a lot of people saying that the side effects is worse than the neuropathy itself. A big worry of course but I felt like it was worth a try at least!
@@malinandtom everything is worth a try. Enjoy your weekend xx
Malin you are doing great.
My question is how did you two meet ? X
I love you guys! For your Q&A: do you talk only Swedish to the kids or are they learning English? Your English is so good Malin (well, you too Tom of course!) I was just curious.
Hopefully you will get that feeling back down the road. I have heard of this.
Nice to see you happy and surrounded by nature. You are a lovely family. My question: where and how did you meet? In Sweden? In England? online? it would be nice to know. Tom seems to love Sweden, which is actually great. Thanks for sharing your life with us. We adore you. 💚💚💛💛🧡🧡💖💖💜💜💙💙
Beautiful place to relax with family ❤ xxx
Hope Im not too late for the Q&A! Would love to know how you two met and if you lived in the UK together at one point? What made you decide to settle down in Sweden? And last but not least, what do you do as your day job? Thanks and have a great day!
What do you two do for work?
How did you meet?
A friend of mine had neuropathy in her feet after chemo
I'd like to see a snake run, too! 😃
Are you planning a long overland trip in your van soon?
Malin, do you speak other languages besides Swedish and English? Tom, do you speak fluent Swedish?
B12 shots work good for numbness and tingling. Increase B vitamins in your diet.. The nerve medication they give make you feel worse.
I have scoliosis and had 16 inches of my spine straightened. I have the same neuropathy from the surgery so it could just be from your surgeries. I hope it improves.
Sorry to hear about your neuropathy, I hope you feel as good as you can! Mine has been around since the first round of chemo, and been getting worse after every round. So they know it’s from that, and we’ll just have to wait and see if it’ll get better or not.
Bless you
Maĺin I had wisdom teeth removed later in life and this resulted in nerve damage which was so painful. It took about 5 months to improve to a stage that was manageable. It was slow progress but mproved steadily ❤
Nu finns det svenska undertexter! Ursäkta att vi är lite långsamma ibland 😇
Someone below talks about her oncologist telling her to take large doses of B vitamins for the neuropathy and it went away. Isn't it worth a try. If you tried it for a year ....
Neuropathy is not nice. I find that one of those foot spas with hot water, Epson salts and a few drops of Lavender ess is soothing.
Love to hear if you plan on extended van trips now. Maybe abroad?
Ur family is so adorable x from uk
Q & A : How did the both of you meet?
Yep...neuropathy is a bitch. I also have it. Happy for you overall anyway!!! BTW>Can I have your car???
❤ lovely family lovely surroundings. ✌️🤞😊
I don't wanna recommend any drugs but if you are able to try cannabis either through the black market or if your doctor can prescribe it, that's what I would do, just to know if it's an option for the nerve problems until it eventually heals.
A question if you like... Do you plan to home educate your children?
Good Morning guys just letting you know that I'm out of hospital now and My Dr said that she's very Happy about everything at the Moment guys She wants to be seeing me next year and she's going to be doing My Next Camera job inside of me is going to be doing that in the next 5.years guys I'm going to be seeing My Cancer Dr Appointment on Friday 23.6.23. I still have problems with my feet as well guys David from Milton NSW In Sydney Australia

Have you heard about the stabbing in Nottingham 3 stabbed to death I think one was run over xx
We’ve heard, it’s so heartbreaking! The world is cruel❤️🩹
Be careful with medication , lots of side effects..my husband has neuropathy and he stopped all meds
❤
Chemo can cause Neuropathy
Do you work?

Ughhh! This is why so many cancer patients say the chemo is the killer!
