圧迫稽古 Appaku Keiko. Pressure testing keiko. I like what you said about breakfalls. It seems that in Kotegaeshi, for instance, pressure on the wrist can be relieved by Uke taking a break fall OR by turning his center towards nage and kicking the leg out. The latter seems to me a more natural way humans fall, for example slipping on ice or some liquid inside. Taking a break fall will also reduce the pressure on the wrist and arms, but it seems that impetus would come from uke, as opposed to Nage adversely affecting Uke's structure. This is sometihing I am still working on. Thank you for these videos. I enjoy your style of Aikido very much!
Thank you for demonstrating and explaining all the different approaches to how uke reacts. Greenwood Sensei always has the best Aikido and there is something particularly special about NASA. I love how much of an Aikido Technician Greenwood Sensei is in his approach; always precise, smooth, and calculated. 🙏🙇♂️
Great instructional video. Thank you for the tips how to keep your uke in check :)By the way, we once met in Japan during Yufukan Anniversary Seminar. Hope to meet again sometime in the future. Greetings from China.
Greenwood Sensei, that's a really nice video. And I think that type of drill is EASILY accessible to every aikidoka, as way to improve the quality of their drilling practice. I think folks do that type of thing sporadically, here and there, but making a systematic, consistent effort with the positions that you and your group showed here will be beneficial for all.
Thank you for your comments! I agree 100%. We can work toward greater levels of freedom/aliveness and fluency while maintaining a logical/coherent interaction that avoids breaking down into a brawl or strength contest. Judo, BJJ and wrestling have each accomplished this fairly safely by confining their scope and goals in their own ways. Tomiki has its own approach as well. Once you have this you can train with greater intensity and aliveness while keeping things safer. The safer you make things the more you can push and test what you're doing.
Although no an aikido practicioner(just 6 months 35 years ago, actuly tangsoodo and kungfu istructor, former kickboxer)I can see how aikido ts the "art to avoid contact"and your practice, with atemi and footsweep and changhing techs under progressive pressure,is the best exemple.
What is the main or core difference between Nishio style and original Ueshiba and also tenshin Steven Seagal style? As far as I know, sensei Nishio said many people complained that the original style is not effective for martial art.
It's difficult to make comparisons because each approach has its merits and there are many overlaps between styles. The emphasis in Nishio Sensei's approach is simultaneously preserving both the philosophical and budo nature of aikido. He saw the fundamental aspects of all martial arts within aikido. So we can easily express aikido variously through the proper use of the sword, through striking, grappling, etc. The basics of all martial arts are found within aikido. There's the constant presence of iaido, jodo, karate, judo within every movement. So our aikido is immediately adaptable to these different contexts. That was Nishio Sensei's approach.
Was very happy to see you posted a new video. Hoping to see more in the future!
