- A most excellent and comprehensive documentary from the venerable Greek television program "Paraskinio" in 2008 in which I tell all about Tuxedomoon, my life, and my life in Tuxedomoon. There is much live footage and rare clips of the band and its members spanning the 35 years of Tuxedomoon's career. There is also a fair bit of stuff from my solo career and clips from my Greek movie roles. Directed and produced by my good friend George Skevas.
Hello Blaine. I hope you see this comment. Back in the early 80's (84 or 85), me and a couple of my band mates saw Tuxedomoon perform at the Club Lingerie in Los Angeles. The show was only lightly attended, and it was obvious that you, Steve and Peter were disheartened at the turnout. This would have been just after Tuxedomoon had released all of the classic EP's and LP's recorded in England, Holland and Belgium. Regardless, having seen countless performances, in my life, that show was the greatest music performance I have ever experienced. As I mentioned, it was just the core (Brown, Reininger, Principle). Peter stood motionless smoking a cigarette, playing his bass lines with perfection, while you and Steve wove your intricate and beautiful melodies. I figure that, in your mind, if you remember that show at all, that you remember it as a disappointment based on the lack of audience. But for the few of us that were there, I just wanted to let you know, that show was seriously the greatest! Love your music always, thanks for the inspiration and best regards!
Thanks
The originality and talent of this artist are beyond words. A real musician, a gifted actor (both in films and performance) and an iconic member of one of the most unique bands of our century. Belonging nowhere made him what he is. And that is irreplaceable.
The embodiment of a Genius, the sweetest man alive.
Love you Blaine, love everything about you, M xx
Gee, thanks
ONE OF THE GREATEST ARTIST IN THE WORLD !
I was in Palas theater in 1987, the first of the two gigs Tuxedomoon gave in one night. First gig at 19:30, second at 22:00. I will always regret i didn't remain in the theater to watch for a second time one of the best live shows i 've ever seen! Tuxedomoon was already well known in Greece since 1984 (myself i met with their music on 1985 through a cassete a friend gave me with Ship of Fools material. Thank you for all the great music Blaine, you will never be a xenos to me and many people here in Greece!
That's why I live here.
I used to listen to this guy's music in the 80s through factory records, factory benelux.les discs du crepescule. I still listen to the song Windy Outside because I love it. I love this guy's honesty and generosity of spirit. I enjoyed this documentary it gives me some background to the music. I love the ideas he had from the beginning. Great underground artist. A guy who went beyond the billboard at the edge of town.
That’s a great guy in a great band, timeless
timeless indeed, timeless is the only thing one can express in words about this band
I respect you and appreciate you Mr. Reininger.
I am 52 years old and starting to see from another angle on life. Now you understand more.
Thanks for the spiritual food that I've gotten from you.
Amazing documentary.I have this from 1988.
Thanks for saying it so succinctly, Mr. Reininger - feeling like a stranger no matter where you are. Some days I feel I am most familiar and at home when listening to the music of Tuxedomoon!
I don't know if you did or didn't succeed, Blaine sir, but in the meantime you've played some of the best violin music I've heard
Saw you in San Francisco in the 80's... so amazing! Half Mute was one of the first albums I bought for myself as a poor kid & I listened to it over and over. The performance art scene in SF was so cool then, a magical placetime where art really mattered and we were all doing it!
Thank you so much for uploading this diamond!
Brilliant !!!! you have your own documentary..........
Thank you Blaine: Your candor in writing, composing music, performance with the violin, etc. have inspired me to embrace gratitude,open-mindedness, and persevere. I hope you continue to realize tranquility .
Thank YOU!! for a very amazing show/music in TEL AVIV !! ISRAEL!!
didnt had a chance to tell u , so here it is , thank u and come again!
What's the track that starts at the end at 50.13?
Blaine - thanks for telling your story. I've just been transported for xxx minutes. Your music just keeps enchanting. Today I received 'Blue Velvet Revisited' (wonderful CD) and Isabelle Corbisier's biography of the band, which I'll be immersing myself in. It's been a splendid TM day - decades after I first heard 'Half Mute' on FM radio in Australia and it influenced my creative life. Keep musicking!
Nice. I was a big fan of the '80's Tuxedomoon Ralph/Crepescule stuff. But I followed Blaine when he left, as I thought he and Steven Brown were the heart of the band. I just bought Night Air & Broken Fingers on CD (yes, I want to GIVE Blaine my appreciation in a PURCHASE). It is the first time I've had it since a tape from vinyl in '83 (sorry- both albums). I must say- I love it as much as I did then!! Blaine has an amazing voice to go with his first rate songs. He captures the feeling of a stranger abroad. I will be checking out the rest of his work. (Can't say why I fell out of following him & Tuxedomoon- stuff just happens!!). But I can't wait to play it for my friends. This doc was fun to see the man behind the music.
Desire, Half-Mute and Blaine & Steven's work had a big impact on me as a young musician in the early '80s. I was lucky I found them. Would have loved to hear about working with Gareth Jones on Night Air before he was known to the musical community! Thanks Blaine!!
Great Artist!
Thank´s for your Music, Mr. Reininger.
Brilliant portrait. The soul of the artist crystalized.
great! Thank you Mr. Reininger!
This is truly excellent.
Great stuff! Merci Monsieur Reininger.
You are one of my favorite musicians ever. Thank you for your work and inspiration! Cheers from Portugal.
Great docu!! Thanks for posting it.
Someone..Please! What is the track that starts at 39:00? Tried to google the lyrics to no avail. Soo good! Blaine, (if you are reading) you continue to inspire me greatly throughout the years, and Tuxedomoon is one of my all time fav bands. I didn't know you were from Pueblo! Im from Carbondale, Colorado and also moved to SF (although much later than you) to pursue experimental music and media. This documentary was seriously excellent! Thank you.
+lucidhazeify Nevermind...figured it out.."Ash and Bone". Never heard...amazing.
So happy I stumbled across this! Amazingly open and honest doc. Been a fan of TM and BLG for many years now but seen very little footage, so this was a sheer joy!
Epic!
thx! SAW YOU ALL IN SF BACK IN 1979-80 0R S0. LOVE YOUR MUSIC.
I had not seen this before. The bit about expat Americans and the weight that is lightened was really poignant and I can really relate after returning to the USA after eight years abroad.
Hi Blaine, I love your work!
One small question: what's that song playing at 39:10? Is it tuxedomoon work or something solo? I hope to see you in Zagreb again.
***** I'm confused... it's not the East i know, and its not the youtubely findable East - are there 2 Easts? :) how can i find it, this from 39:00? it's stunning! ♥
I noticed that, but I didn't want to contradict you. :-)
***** Thanks! perfect. See you soon in Tel Aviv :)
I see Tuxedo Moon in Belgrade 2001. i guess. What a show!! 😊 Ovation and three bisses. Bleine - you are star in Belgrade. ♥️♥️♥️
strange and beautiful ,thanx blaine
my condolences i know nick was a dear friend of yours
wunderbar
❤❤❤
Music #2 great
When I think of true alternative music, I think of Tuxedomoon - be it the group or its respective members each,
to the present day never betraying their own artistic/creative principles. Sadly as of 2019, Monsieurs Geduldig and Principle are no longer with us. :(
.....from 2008..!
Oh well, you ended up in one of the most beautiful places on earth :)
Εκεί γύρω στο 1985 σε μια κασέτα που μου χε γραψει καποιος φίλος πρέπει να κουσα και χίλιες φορές το desire
so glad this guy finally realised he's not David Bowie....:-)
5:55 - what song is that?
Blaine it is so strange how did you get the idea living a period in Belgium .
Belgium is just where we found a place to stand.
Play don't lie!!!!!
siouxe soulhood
nemo propheta in patria sua .. it's an old story
I know you from a long time, tuxedomoon years, you´re a great talent, but we just need to convert ourselfs to our Lord Jesus Christ there is´s our final peace.
If you can, go to Medjugorje in Bosnia, There is what we´re looking for...
Thank you Blaine for all the music over the years! I heard this totally mind-blowing song on Houston's KPFT late one night in 80 or 81. I had to call the station the next day to find the name of it. It was What Use and I became a fan from then on.
I love each and every release and am always surprised and delighted to hear where your musical wings are stretching to next.
Brilliant portrait. The soul of the artist crystalized.
Anyone knows what's the name of the song at 19:30?
Found it Pollo X :-)
Name of the song at 46.00?
Time to loose
