This video is very timely, as I just bought a new dendrobium which had some aerial roots sticking out of the pot. The orchid plant was tightly packed in OLD potting mix. So, I decided to repot, but took care of the aerial roots. The orchid plant needed to be seperated, cleaned and repotted - which I did, and kept the aerial roots "outside" - "as they were", as they say. I feel so much better now. Thanks a lot, a lot, a lot!

Amanda, I really love your posts on orchids, I have learned a lot. Would you mind sharing your thoughts on an idea I have on displaying my orchids, using sphagnum and bark in a wire basket type setting. Picture this. A cedar plank about 5ins wide by about 9 ins tall, a wire cup type basket attached to the plank, maybe chicken wire, not sure yet. Repot an orchid with moss and bark inside the wire basket. I intent on displaying them vertically mounted against a brick wall on our back porch. We live in north Florida area so 95% of the time they will stay outside. I will make a wall inside to transfer them to when it gets to cold. I have had orchids for a few yrs now and are doing well, some very healthy plants. BUT,,, some of them have a tendency to want to grow over the edge of the pot instead of staying vertical. I did read some where they naturally do that. What are your thoughts?
I think I need a small humidifier gadget, I see my areals drying out slowly and if I try to water more, guess what... so, I will get myself a little mister, I think I 've seen one in your background working sometimes...
Hi Angelo, Yes! That's an excellent idea. My gone office is so dry I can't live without one. On my website at orchdieria, if you type in best humidifiers for orchids, I did a review of 5 different kinds. There you can better choose what works best for you in your environment.
Hello. I am glad I found you. It is always nice to find another orchid channel. I love my aerial roots. I love the pots you have in this video which leads me to a question and a request. Are they plastic pots and did you drill the holes in them? I would love it if you could do a video on orchid pots as there is so many different opinions.
@@ritafromboston2249 Hi Rita! The pots in this video are cheap plastic ones that I drilled some holes in. It's hard to find good quality pots, but in an upcoming video, I'll link a post to where you can find them. There are only 2 places that I found on the internet that I liked the pots, but still, they were not fancy, just clear, plastic pots.
hi orchideria! i just watched this video after i cut off the aerial roots! i know but mistake. what can i do to help it? should i move a root out of the pot and into the air? pleas help!
Hi Bella, Unfortunately, there isn't much to do at this point. The orchid will make a few new roots, but everything in orchid care is slow. It might take a few months to start to see new roots form. Just keep an eye on the orchid and make sure it isn't withering or wilting, and the leaves are nice and plump. Your orchid will adapt to the new condition, just give it time. I'm glad the video helped.
