We had a 1970 Town and Country 440 HP 390 H.P. with the trailer towing package which included low gearing in the rear. That thing was really fast from 0-100 mph and it was a perfect sleeper. Once, my Dad blew away this jacked up 55 Chevy at a light that was revving up his engine and popping the clutch while waiting for the light to turn green. At the green light, my Dad took off and left that Chevy sitting there.

I was 19 or 20 and that was the fastest car I ever drove. It took awhile, but at about 100 mph that thing seemed to float down the road and on a two lane road you knew you were living on the edge. You sensed you couldn't stop it within the length of a football field. It was like the unstoppable force. It was like a 6000 lb sled going down a toboggan run and it needed quite awhile to slow down. It was scary and I had friends who said they would never ride with me in it again. My dad's favorite thing on the car - He had prostate problems since he was in his late 30's and it had an air-conditioning vent below the steering wheel that blew right between his legs. He really liked that.
My mom's car, which became the first car for myself and my siblings when we learned to drive was a 1966 Pontiac Bonneville Wagon with a 383 stroker motor, disc brakes, air conditioning, real wood trim on the dashboard and I drove that car everywhere, loaded with friends, surfboards, skis, skateboards, banging girls in it, that was the best car ever. When the car had 120,000 a GTO pulled up next to dad, Mr. business man. The kid in the GTO saw the 409 badge and gave dad a smirk. The light turned green and ole dad smoked the kid.

As an owner of a 1968 Ford Country Squire and a 2006 Dodge Magnum RT, I officially have a thing for wagons. The long roof to me just oozes sleek and fast. They rule. Screw an SUV. Who likes to cut donuts in a top heavy Tahoe or Explorer when you can leave 11s down the street in your wagon?
I grew up with all the old ones and can say that though there was a whole lot wrong with them, the average family couldnt get along without a big wagon. I have been all over the US in those wagons, vista-cruiser too, all the time sitting in the backseat throwing up. When the automakers stopped making them, people also stopped making road trips. Airplanes took over, thats why the wagon died. Today, people dont want to fly, they are making more road trips now but they are doing it in Prius and SUVs. But old timers dont want a sporty SUV, they want a wagon again. I know my dad would. I would, especially with wind-wings and roll-down rear window, both so useful.
I always built these cars back in the day. My black friend Alfred always called them my HO-- WAGONS . O.K. by me. Your good friend Vinny in good old Fla.
1963-'64 Studebaker Daytona Wagonaire. Studebaker R2 V8 (Supercharged 289, and totally unrelated to the Ford engine of almost the same size), Power Shift 3-speed automatic or 4-speed manual. Studebaker never advertised the horsepower ratings for the Avanti-spec engines, but acceleration and top speed figures suggest somewhere between 300 and 335 for the R2. Between the available supercharged mill and the trick "sky's the limit" roof over the cargo bay, it's among the coolest haulers ever built.

@paul austin , ooh, good call...and thanks for noticing the omission...sometimes, people in the USA like myself tend to make mistakes like that, and I do apologize for the error. Being as I am autistic in real life, it is hard to admit when I make a mistake. I will look up that car sometime.
@paul austin , say, is the Vauxhall Magnum Sportshatch not built upon the Chevrolet Vega Wagon body, more or less, but vastly improved in a lot of aspects?
@paul austin , we are talking about the MOST powerful station wagons/estate cars/shooting brakes ever. The Vauxhall Magnum Sportshatch only had around 70 HP if you convert cc to HP, as the Vauxhall Magnum Sportshatch only had a 2279 cc engine. Granted, it was probably a good S4 engine, but the Dodge/Chrysler/Plymouth Neon SRT-4 engine honestly made that Vauxhall Magnum Sportshatch engine look rather anemic in comparison, but, in all honesty, it was not really the fault of car itself, meaning the Vauxhall Magnum Sportshatch, but, rather its designers that were scared about pollution and rising oil prices, never mind that, ironically, the vehicle was MORE of a gas guzzling hog than even massive V8 engines.
In my view, the Kingswood is the most attractive. It accelerates it has no weight without the engine sounding strained. It is just a little buzz and it is away. Show me a 2019 car that can duplicate that performance. Well, - I will stick to my 300HP cars: Volvo S60/2005 and V70/2007. No rust in these cars in a country with a lot of salted roads during winters with snow and frost. Regards from Denmark

I'm 56 now, my first vehicle was a used 1970 400 small block Lt metallic green Kingswood estate wagon aka 'the tank' as we called it. I liked it so much I put headers on it. The specs on 1/4 mile times were 17.6 blazing seconds!
Bring wagons back ✌🏻
@SusanMarie3 which station wagon car is your favourite? :)
@@CarNewsTV grew up with Ford Country Squire - would trade my Explorer for. New one today
They didn't show one Ford
My favorite is the Chevrolet Impala wagon
Ya'll forgot the Buick Esquire with the 455.had one nice car.
Estate?
Always liked the 64 Pontiac Tempest Safari, and the 58 Chrysler New Yorker Hemi Wagon.
In the 80's you could buy a good station wagon for $200 - $300 !!
That's around $650 to $1950 of todays money
For me, if you can't fit a 4X8 plywood in back it's not a station wagon.
No matter what I would still take a 1955 Nomad any day of the week .
I love american cars they are so beautiful.
Mr Fathead + :)
My Faves are the Ford Wagons from the late 70s early 80s based off of the Fox Platform. You can bolt any Fox Body Mustang upgrades to them like suspension, engine etc and you have a sleeper grocery getter drag car. The Ford Fairmont, Mercury Zephyr, LTD LX wagons are PERFECT.
I drive a Volvo V 50 Estate , I love Station wagons whatever make they are , but the American ones are something else love them , trouble now is all this emissions crap and restrictions on what you can and can't drive , pricing the average person off the road , great video, Chevy impala looks Awesome 👏
I remember my dad had a Chevy wagon with a 400 big block and it said on the air cleaner 400 Ci 400 hp .
I would, especially with wind-wings and roll-down rear window, both so useful.
had a rambler v 6 loved that car
I don't think that you had that car with a v6 in it cause they didn't ever make one, now an inline 6 I can't argue with that!!!!!!!!
Interesting video
How do you not include a Dodge Magnum SRT8?!
@original lone wolf I don't know I had a 2005 Magnum RT lowered with wheels and it was flawless when I sold it with over 100,000 in 2005!
Probably because dodge labeled it as a “sport tourer” instead of a wagon
all are awesome 😘😘😘
First time I see a Ferrari station wagon
I still have a ‘71 Vista Cruiser with a 455.
Cool boats pal
I had a 1969 Kingswood wagon like first car on video in 1977&78. With a 327&turbo 400
Cool cars! BUT WHERE'S THE 57 CHEVY NOMAD?
We had a Vista Cruiser. I remember it didn’t have good breaking for us young hot rod kids.
Like that vista cruiser
You forgot to include the Citroën Familiale wagon, any year from the 50s and 60s. Can’t beat the hydropneumatic suspension!
The "SUV " of the 60s!
I miss my amc eagle 4×4
I'll take either the 59 Bonnie or the 64 Impala, you can keep the Caddy and the imports.
My Dad had a 69 Chrysler New Yorker wagon, 440 ci, auto with 3.73 posi_lock. it would certainly "Haul" the groceries!
Thanks for the things celebration of wagons. Being a wagon fan I think they are all beautiful. The fact that you had the Vagon(cts-v) on there let me know you appreciate them. Great video and thanks.

#lsswaptheworld
G S + Thank you Sir :)
A 66 Buick wagon is every bit as hot as the vista cruiser
Where is the Third (or Fourth if you live in Latin/Central/South America) Generation Dodge Magnum, particularly its SRT8 variant? They were also a powerful station wagon/estate car/shooting brake as well, and ditto for the Mercedes-Benz-AMG-CLA 45, BMW-Alpina B3 S Biturbo, Porsche Panamera 4S Sport Turismo, Mercedes-AMG CLS63, Porsche Panamera Turbo Sport Turismo, BMW-Alpina B5 Biturbo, Mercedes-AMG E63, Brabus-Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG, Chrysler 300C SRT8 Touring, Jaguar XF Sportbrake, Buick Roadmaster Estate, Holden Commodore Sportwagon, Fourth Generation Chevrolet Caprice Wagon, Chevrolet Caprice Corvette Chaser, Dodge Hemi Coronet Wagon, Chevrolet Chevelle SS Wagon, Volvo V60 Polestar, Mercedes CLS AMG Shooting Brake, Custom Bentley Arnage Wagon, VW Passat Wagon W8, Subaru Forester STI, Holden HSV Clubsport R8 Tourer, Ferrari GTC4Lusso, MTM Audi R6 Avant, Brabus-Mercedes-Benz 850 Shooting Brake, Bentley Continental Supersports Flying Star, Aston Martin Vantage Shooting Brake, Maserati Quattroporte Shooting Brake, Maserati Touring Bellagio, Volvo 850 BTCC, and others.
Pax Humana at least someone mentioned the w8 Passat wagon
John Due + Thank you sir :)
Kool!!! 😲
Proves what I used to joke about in the early 70's as a kid. "One day,all these cars will be collectors cars"..even the Vegas and Pinto's. Like I saw the future. Even then,I don't think I really believed Station Wagons, or even 4 doors cars would be really wanted by anybody. That would be too much!
Sorry me again, Plymouth never had the D500 package, that was Dodge only. Plymouth Custom Sports Suburban could be special ordered with the 318 Fury pack. Just a note Gas back then was 25 cents a gallon 4.5 litre to 1 gallon. Today in NZ gas is $ 2 per litre. Those were the good ol' days Thanks again Mr Gabriel
I haven't ridden in anybody's station wagon since I was a kid!
Great list! Never seen the Ferrari, beautiful automobile. Cadillac CTS V has to get the nod for most powerful and quickest, but they all rock!
HWolfeIII + Thank you! :)
I could only dream of one
You forgot... Volvo 850 2.3L T5 and the Ford Cortina v6....
Agreed. And "ever made" is a little far fetched tbh, there was the very awesome "Lamborghini Estoque"-Concept that never made it to production and the Audi RS6 C7 is an absolutely gorgeous beast as well.
I know, my parents owned one! 😊

RS6 Performance 😍
You forgot the 1996 Buick Roadmaster wagon. Collectors addition.
The Buick Regal station wagon also.
The 72 Vista has a 350 rocket under the hood.
I believe the engine in the Impala wagon was the famous 409.
All nice but miss the family '64 Chevelle Malibu wagon. Bought used in i believe '66 with a 283 that went south. Good friend found my Dad a 327 out of a wrecked Camaro. This thing went everywhere,,,,bay area to oregon to Reno and all. Estimated 200K and still ran but donated. the motor, a PowerPak. always chuckeled like here we go again. This motor was no joke, Fuelie 2:02 intake i think. Detuning killed it. Should have found a spot for it in '84.
Had three 454 station wagons. My fastest was the 74 malbu, which ran high 12 seconds in the 1/4 mile
You forgot the absolutely beautiful and immensely powerful Mercedes Benz AMG CLA45 AMG, que most beautiful station wagon of the world of all times !
