Aarhus is the second-largest city in Denmark. It is located on the eastern shore of Jutland in the Kattegat sea and approximately 187 kilometres northwest of Copenhagen. Dating back to the late 8th century, Aarhus was founded as a harbour settlement at the mouth of the Aarhus River and quickly became a trade hub. The first Christian church was built here around the year 900 and later in the Viking Age the town was fortified with defensive ramparts. Today it is a university city and the largest centre for trade, services, industry, and tourism in Jutland.
We go on a coach tour to Ebeltoft, on the Djursland Peninsular.
Ebeltoft is an old port town on the central east coast of Denmark. It is known for its old town center with cobble-stoned streets and centuries-old half-timbered houses. Ebeltoft and the surrounding countryside is one of the tourist centres of Denmark, with many summer houses and popular beaches. Unfortunately we have inclement weather, so we are not seeing it at its best.
The town is popular with artisans, such as glass workers, potters, painters, and jewellery designers.We view Jylland, a Danish frigate, which is both a screw-propelled steam frigate and a sailship. It took part in the Battle of Heligoland on 9 May 1864, and is preserved as a museum ship. We drive through Mols Bjerge National Park, which has a unique concentration of stone nozzles from the Stone Age. The best known is probably Poskær Stenhus.
