And cranking it to 10 is a sure way to get evicted from an apartment. I bought this little stack on impulse 9 years ago when I was picking up a new Les Paul I had ordered. Now it's my primary amp because I love the tone. Instead of lugging my 65 lb, 100 watt amp, I just mic this little package
I've already played on one of those Blackstar amps, exactly the same model.. well when I firt looked at it, I tought.. hmm.. no, it doesn't seem so good, and I tough it was not loud too.. but when I tryed it, hell yeah I was wrong, that amp put all the music store vibrating, for it's size it's an amazing sounding amp, and the price it's more than good, so I'll buy it for sure someday! :)
Tone preference is subjective. People that say other amps are better is simply their own opinion. I bought this stack back in 2009 on impulse while picking up an LP I had ordered. I've been playing for 35 years and I have a lot more guitars and amps than I need. IThe HT-5 is definitely one of my better purchases. It's perfect for home use but it will rattle wall hangings when cranked up. Unlike most if the other low-wattage amps, it doesn't sound thin or cheap. It doesn't sound 'thin' like most of the other low wattage amps on the market. Also, the two HT110 cabs with Celestion 70/80's sound much better than the newer HTV112 cabs they came out with later.
@@caseyspaos448 sounds weird man, anyone that has one i know or cranks mine creams over the distortion. Renew ya valves or something maybe? Even from new they can be duds
@@pbest75 I didn't really think about the fact that new valves can be duds. Thanks. A weird thing is that it sounds artificially reverby even when the reverb is at 0.
@@caseyspaos448 all good 🤘. If you having reverb issues to maybe you got a dud one. If new id be taking it back. At 0 should be no reverb at all. Or go to guitar shop and try one, see if its different to yours
@youngstardj123 Yes, and it's very good one at that. It has a switch to allow for an emulated 4x12" cabinet or a 1x12" cabinet as well. Though, personally, I don't think you can't beat the sound of a real cabinet and mic, especially with this amp. Being only 5 watts, you can crank it further than you would be able to a higher wattage amp on stage allowing you to really drive the tubes and get a great sound out of it.
@Pipley100 We really like both amps here at TPG and we stock them both... It's more about what tone are YOU going for, features of the amp and what fits your budget. Personal preference...but both are excellent amps! Thanks for the post! TPG
Um, This is a tube amp, Correct? It looks great, How loud is it, can it make my Tele sound amazing, Can you Gig with it? And how much does t cost. Thanks in advance for an answer.
Hello I wonder if the Blackstar ht 5 that comes with two 1x12 boxes have good volume to rehearse with my band and if I play enough to live in a pub in medium size to 150 persons.Gracias greetings.Great video
His demo is of the HT5-S (stack comes with the two cabs), are you going for the head or the combo. By the way it is a great rig I've just sold mine on ebay to part fund the new 1 watt Marshall DSL 1 based on your JCM2000 DSL 100. Killer tone for the house players like me. HT5 rocks though. Class 5 fuck they are loud.
@jphirdx The HT5 really likes to be cranked up! The beauty of the amp though is that it's not so loud it will hurt your ears, even at full volume. Personally I turn master volume all the way up and use my guitar volume and amp gain to control the tone. It is loud enough for a full band, assuming your mates are not rediculously loud... :) Most of us that gig, will be using a PA system for larger gigs, so this amp will work for a LOT of situations!
i am choosing between this amp th blackstar ht 20 and the blackstar ht 40 i am not in a band and cannot get an overly loud amp would you say the tone is pretty much the same on them all and the sound quality etc also is it loud enough to jam with friends etc thanks great review :D
@topdog2328 Not incredibly loud, but they are giggable. Especially if you have sound reinforcement. That's the beauty of the amp... You can get a great tone at low volume! Even a 15 watt tube amp is pretty dang loud...and most of us don't need that much volume... ;)
hi i've been looking up amps for about a month now, deciding what amp i want and what i actually want in an amp. fender blues junior is too tinny and not hi gain enough for me... but marshall is just a bit expensive for the ones i actually like. this blackstar seems like a perfect choice for me (or the combo version). Is it versatile for most playing styles?
This is like the 5th review video I've seen of the HT-5R and every one of them use an Ernie Ball Music Man. Whattup with that? It's a conspiracy...yup, a conspiracy. Lol.Anyway, I have a Marshall Class 5 mini stack, a Marshall JCM2000 DSL1000 half stack and a Vox Night Train head. Planning the HT-5R to be my next piece.
+ale.s.l mic'ed of course. Without mic its possible..but you dont have crystal cleans at certains volumes because of its 5w it gets nice dirt at rehearsal levels with drummer. apart of that its surprisingly loud
contrary to what was stated in the comments, this amp definitely cannot be played with a drummer, let alone a full band (I've tried). there are many other amps at the same price range that are much better in tone and volume. I suggest either the Orange Tiny Terror (15w - 7w) or Carvin V3M (50w - 22w - 7w)
+Josh Tate Maybe you have tried with a crappy cabinet because i've played it with insane loud metal drummers and it is fucking loud, i've only tried with 2x12 or 4x12. Only once i played with a drummer that even covering my ears almost make me bleed..with that drummer a 100w krank rev1 cold biased almost was not enough..but with an average hard hitting rock-alternative drummer i play the blackstar loud enough, master at 1/2 or less and sometimes its too much..louder than the other guitarrist of the band. And i spend only 298€ on it new..because the launching of ht-5r was near
@Pippa01sam Depends on how loud your drummer is... If he's stupid loud, no... If he's reasonable, you'll be ok, but he may not be able to hear you... We have pro players that are gigging this amp/cab setup but most of them have sound reinforcement at live shows. Peace!
sounds like a decent amp but I have heard many more amps which sound better at a more affordable price. Still, by no means is it a "let-down". If you own one of these amps then congratulations on having a wonderful amp.
We produced this video when these amps first hit the market. April 2010... Therefore we found it appropriate to explain a bit about the controls and features that are included in the amp. Thanks for the feedback though!
theperfectguitar iagree with ESP_Guitarist ... there's no better explanation than sound... and you gotta think, that lot of viewers dont speak eng... so, talking that much, you loose audience... ;) good channel by the way.-
i bought this mini-stack in 2010 when I was trying out a new LP Standard I ordered. I hadn't heard of Blackstar but I plugged in to it and heard Blackstar. I left with my new LP and a Blackstar HT-5 mini-stack. All the way home, I thought about my impulse buy and I thought I really didn't need a new amp. It's 8 years later and my HT-5 has been my go-to amp ever since. I mic it for shows.
@ninjasRfunky the blackstar is the better choice. the champ is a modeling amp that sounds pretty good, but for real tone, the ht5 is unbeatable in this price range. you can buy the head and one cab, but i wouldn't do that, cause the blackstar cabs arn't top- notch. buy the head and a decent 1x12 or 2x12. laney gs212ie as a tip. if that's too expensive, bugera 212v. if that's still too expensive, buy the combo. just one of those 10' cabs arn't a good deal, they cost more than the bugera 2x12.
+Castillos Negros Yes.. i have it and it sounds better on a 4x12.. its really loud He tocado con baterias muy ruidosos..burracos metaleros y en ese caso lo he podido poner al 10.

No it will not be loud enough on its own you need to mic it up to a PA. Rehearsing you may get away with, if your drummer is not too loud and all your band mates haven't got 100 watt amps cranked too loud. Mind you 100 watts is only twice as loud as a 10 watt rig or 10 dB (decibels).
your joking about friendlier people right? gun crime and murder rates mean anything to you? also Americans cant take a joke etc and go around punching people and getting aggresive when the British just get on with life

Does it really have to be 2 cabinets? Can it be just 1?

Mine came with two cabs w/ Celestions. Both are 8 ohms.
@jphirdx Yes, if your drummer is not really loud. It's good for anything you want to play through it...! ;)
