SIR DAVE IS A DRUM GURU FOR SURE
THANKS DM we love ya!! X
For anyone unfamiliar... there's been a resurgence of interest in the Tama BellBrass and folks have started replicating that shell and trying new things. Different alloys and thicknesses and such... I think Dave's drum is from one of those companies...
Absolutely superb drummer, and so knowledgeable. I've seen him twice this year, first with Fairport, and then with Richard Thompson.
Bello/Magnifico.🙏✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️✡️👑
Fascinating even for a non-drumming punter like myself!
hey dave! longtime no groove...in regards to the gruv-x...i remember watching an in studio video of you performing with three or four other superb musicians and the song went to a quiet passage and you went to a cross stick effect, and, when i heard this i thought it was the most perfect cross stick sound i'd ever heard. this was a babyland studio production (always top quality sound and filming) well, it made me go to dcp and buy one (thanks tony) because i wanted that sound! i wish i could remember the song but, as usual-the performance was flawless.thank-you drum brother, your drum brother-don fab.8/20/24
Donald, speaking for Babyland - thank you! Do you mean this one? ruclips.net/video/fWhGTQnZBhk/видео.htmlsi=nODWLjB274HWxHRS
that's it! listen to that drumming- everything perfectly placed, he listens to the music and plays accordingly...no overplaying, no histrionics just solid musicianship, cymbalsmith and drummery-wow! just wow! now...if you have enough time i'd like to talk about the guitarists, the bassist, the accordianist and singer-wow! just wow!
@@donaldfabiano7775 He is a master of all those things, for sure. The studio motto, "It's All About the Song," is a direct reflection of Dave's influence here. As for the video, there's no hope for the singer, but the bass player is Ed Valauskus, who recently toured with Nada Surf, and just hosted Mr. E. Costello at his day gig managing Q Division Studio in Cambridge, MA. The accordionist is Elizabeth Steen, whose music I've been honored to record for a few years, and who, before settling in to being constantly in demand here in Boston, spent years in Natalie Merchant's band. The guitar player is Mr. Duke Levine, who is sui generis, and currently plays for Ms. Bonnie Raitt. But of course it all starts with DM...
Seems like hes upgraded to more elaborate kit. I remember seeing him on tour with Richard Thompson and the kit was not only minimal but also rather small that looked like it was for a beginner. But the sound he got was huge. The snare didn’t need a mic. I put it down to his using traditional muxed grip.
Dave has been very loyal to the Yamaha brand for many years so isn’t it time they brought a signature snare with his name on it? I would buy one for sure!
Agreed!
🤘😎🥁🔥👍
Whats your reasoning for coated on the bottoms with clear tops?
To DentArthurDent, from DM: “ Not as straightforward as that . The top (clear} head on those toms are double-ply - they drop the pitch ( compared to a single-ply ) & dampen slightly. Having a coated ( single-ply ) head on the bottom helps the sound avoid the ‘ beach ball ‘ effect when both heads are clear - & that factor becomes very obvious if top & bottom heads are clear - & single-ply. All that BEFORE one gets into the tensioning of the two heads - & their relation to each other .“
@ Thank you very kindly. Beware of the leopard

DM one of my all time favourites ever since i started playing drums (in the 70s). Can’t get my head around 8 lugs on a kick? Well, he was always different.
Common Dave common m8 no demo ? Algood my friend nice kit.
He didn't say the sizes of his crashes, only ride and hi-hats.
Neal, the answer from DM: "The A on on my left { hh side } is 18” .. 1 with holes “A Custom EFX” {🤪} 20” .. China is 20” , splash is 11” .
And the heads...?
Evans! From DM: "dbl ply clear { g2 } on top - single ply {uv1} on bottom..."
@@BabylandStudio Thanks..!!!!
You didn’t tell us what drumsticks you’re using
Promark !
@@BabylandStudio Awsome what size
@@joshuajuaire8757 Promark makes them for DM. He says: "kinda slightly longer 5b but not as thick..." You may be able to special order them; ask for the Dave Mattacks size.
