I love vinyl but there is definetely things you can do on Ableton (which is what Richie Hawtin uses - not Serato) that cannot be done with vinyl. As for sound quality, WAV or AIFF are the files that these tracks are cut from in the first place. Mp3's are not being used here. The thing is, just use whatever works for you and just stop cussing other people for using what works for them.
richie is ussing serato most of the time but sometimes he's going big whit everything he can exept of mixing and producing he also helps to create effect and all kind a pluggins, so every thing he does is half top secret. what i wanna say is that it's not about mp3 of wave files or spinning orginal vinyl but ist what you make of it, by adding stuff to create the sound you most like, and RICHIE IS JUST THE FUCKING BEST!!
serato, final scratch, torq, traktor dj are al time code systems whitch you can connect on ableton live, i was in brussel (begium) on groove city here did richie use 2 laptops (ibook and a macbook pro) i couldn't see what he was doing exactly but i guess that he used ableton in combination whit a (conrtoling) time code programm. and on the othere laptop he was adding by midi controllers effects and pluggins (like a extern effect box).
even with the changes in his set ups and the manner in which he mixes now days, this video still makes me feel warm inside. seeing it from the booth perspective, having being in that club with him playing, knowing that vibe, watching him from a djs viewpoint with his control of the mixer and the soundlooper, every thing about this video just makes me happy,
so ... "real DJs dont use Serato" ? ohhh ok ... so ... if you wanna talk of REAL DJS ... all actual djs must be fucking wrong, don't you think ? ... because the first djs, didn't even used 2 turntables or a mixer ... so ... all the world is wrong oh yes, all the world (my god, hate these kind of stupid comments =S )
