I got called lame for wearing ear plugs at a metal concert. Pretty sure it's much more lame to welcome deafness and tinnitus in cases where it can be prevented.
I wish I would have seen a video like this last year. I used to think hearing damage just made it harder to hear, and I was totally OK with that, so I never wore earplugs. Then about 6 months ago, I came home from a show and the ringing never went away, and only got worse with subsequent shows. Now I own a pair of those earplugs, and I wear them to every event, take my word for it, Tinnitus is NOT worth it.
+Zach Hixson I had horrible tinnitus for a month. A month of whooshing and all that jazz. I was so close to slapping people left and right because I literally could NOT HEAR anyone over anything. I have permanent hearing damage now, because in a loud environment with a ton of background noise, I cannot hear specific noises. (I'm going to invest in these earplugs to save the rest of my hearing...)
@@WasBiib1 Yeah, but I found out recently it might be genetic. I was dumb as shit as a teenager and stuck my head in sub-woofers, lit off fireworks indoors, air-horn battles, etc. and so I rationally thought all that damaged my hearing. Then I was talking with my sister a few months ago who has lived an almost 100% bubble wrapped life, never even been to a concert, and she mentioned she has really bad tinnitus as well that developed around the same age as when mine did. Oh well, life's life I guess.
I got tintinnus since i was born, but it's not a big problem cause it isn't too loud, but I can hear it when I'm trying to sleep, and it's so annoying to have. Guys protect your ears and don't listen to music with a too high volume
Oh es. This is good. I has born with extreamly sensitive hearing so high noises always bothered me but not too much. After an incident when I was probably 1 or 2 where I was in the hospital due to one of my ears being injured and pouring out blood did it get worse. Loud, high, it started to hurt. So I always tried to protect my ears but somethings didn't feel good to use them. And it also sucked because I am in the music field. Band, chorus, orchestra. So now that I know about these musician earbuds, I'm going to get myself some. Hopefully it will REALLY help a lot with my sensitive hearing. Thank you for this.
Seriously guys, wear earplugs whenever you feel its too loud. I've had Tinnitus for some time now. Although it's kinda mild it's the worst thing ever when I'm in a silent room. Since then, I've been wearing Earpeace HDs and they do a fantastic job. Don't be that guy who thinks they don't need them especially if you go to a lot of music festivals, clubs, etc. You won't regret it down the road.
Speaking as a fan of yours and also as a hearing conservation professional, thank you for posting this DjRavine! It is so important for all musicians to protect their hearing so you all can keep making great music, so put in those earplugs! Awesome!
I can't believe I bought these earplugs just because DjRavine told me to. ..... But they were sooooo worth it! They're so comfortable and I can still hear everything while using them, just quieter!
I am a begginer DJ and I really thank you for your advice. I always had tinnitus. I was born with it, and I just deal with it. I don't want to get it worse so i'll buy a pair of EarPlugs HD :)
Seriously guys, pay attention to stuff like this! I had the unfortunate luck of being born with tinnitus, so I haven't had a day my whole life where there wasn't a ringing in my ears. Trust me, you do not want this. Do everything in your power to avoid it for as long as possible.
I know that this is an old video, but I still want to take the time to thank you for sharing it. My mother went to her fair share of concerts back in the day and used to always get up right next to the speakers. She said that that's one of the things that she really regrets. Friends have sometimes poked fun at me for wearing earplugs to shows. We'll see if their opinion changes in the future. Take care of your hearing. Enjoy the music (and the silence) longer.
Yea I used to be in my school's indoor drumline. One time during a week break we practiced in a church that let us in, so the entire marching drum section was crammed into one of their small rooms (we had a pit section and stuff too but they were elsewhere) and that was 3 tenners 5 snares and 5 bass drums. I was bassdrum 5, or the biggest bassiest no treble drum in the line. And after a few minutes of practicing all I could hear was static that only changed in pitch slightly when the tenners went up or down a drum. I couldn't even discern individual hits, it was just static. So the instructors were yelling at me, and I was yelling back that I couldn't hear a damn thing and we found a box of tissues and stuck some in my ears. That worked until they came back with some good earplugs. They weren't musician grade, but they were a similar style to your older pair but also had a string connecting them so you could wear em around your neck or something. They were amazing. I still have them somewhere. But i'm definitely going to be looking at a pair of those if I ever go out to any concerts or if I ever DJ in a live venue.
Yea, that day was a real wake up call for me. One of my biggest fears is loosing my hearing, second only to loosing my eyesight. I think I might have some slight hearing damage, I hear a quiet static sort of sound when everything is quiet. It's not always there thankfully, I just hope it doesn't grow into a bigger problem. I DJ and make music as a hobby, would be a shame to loose that fun or the potential that I could get big. Maybe I could get on your level sometime. :P *obligatory Cotts & Ravine fanboy comment*
thanks for the video, a super important topic that is easily over looked, i suffer from mild tinnitus from back in my rave and Dj days, and now have to sleep with a fan on at night to cover up the ringing effect... towards the end of that stretch and to this day i now wear ear plugs at concerts or even at the club. those orange and purple foam plugs look stupid but i have to protect whats left of my hearing... i also know of a dj buddy who blew his eardrums out on stage and had blood dripping from his ear, he suffered major permanent damage. so once again thanks for the message and thanks for supplying links to the earpeace HDs i didnt know that these were so readily available these days. hard to find 15yrs ago but im glad its now available
Just got my first pair of hearing protection earplugs today. Put it on while I was driving home. I have loud exhaust which drones at certain RPM. I have to say.. it worked so well! I’ve been playing different instruments in church. We recently had to move and that means a smaller stage. Catastrophic. It is about 100db on the stage with PA guys who do not listen to our feedbacks. I have been pushing my music volume higher and higher and my ears feel like they are not having it(loud noises/ music) anymore. That’s when I decided to get me a pair of these. So yea, hearing protection is VERY crucial. I got the Ear peace earplugs too! Decently priced and well thought of - two different filters and an extra earplug in case anything happens to one of the others.
I'm so glad I came across this video! I've tried those moldable, regular earplugs at raves but they just block everything out and its so bulky and noticeable. Thanks dude! I'm definitely showing this video to my buds.
I'm going to see excision in May and his system consists of 150,000 watts of sound! And the cool thing is that he sells earplugs like these on his website. Never going to another concert without earplugs. First concert I went to I came home with my ears ringing.
I hear that noise once in a blue moon, but i don't have tinnitus. But then again i've not my ears checked out properly. I wear my Alpine plugs at outdoor festivals, indoor musical events. If i forget them i stay well back from the speakers.
DjRavine did you test your hearing spectrum? Most DJs have a very bad hearing. Even if they are 20 years old they can't hear anything above 16 kHz. I'm 23 and my maximum is 17.2 kHz. What's about you guys? Would be really interesting to 'hear' how good your hearing is. :D
Astriator I tested them about a year ago and it was normal. Slightly worse on my right ear but probably because most of the clubs I used to play at had single monitor systems biased to the right.
DjRavine zinzigar I have the same issue: 17.2 kHz Right, 18.0 kHz Left. I would say it's an okay range. A violin can't go above 17 kHz and that's pretty much the top end of any instrument.
Interesting to be watching this with the worst tinnitus i've had in a few years after a huge night last night. Very loud club, my favourite Dj's, but the drive home made me feel like I was missing a sense. DJ's, MC's and audience's that are regularly exposed to loud systems all need to watch out for it, like he said, once it's gone, it doesn't come back
I am 16 and I was born with tinitus... I thought it was normal for 14 years. But at least it's not as bad as my someone I know, he's a drummer and he says he can't hear his high hat anymore, like at all.
Thank you for your thorough reviews! Based on what I learned in your previous video I was almost ready to buy the Etymotic ER 20 XS High Fi Plugs, but now I may be more interested in the EarPeace product. Hi, I just came across your video. I really need my ears to be saved from a next door neighbor who blasts her music when I am trying to sleep. Will this be good for using it to sleep with every night as well as effective in terms of blocking?
I just finished watching some sort of hearing rest and I look in the comments and someone said they couldn't hear for 2 days I click back and hear the first few seconds and had a mini heart attack
Good vid my man. Very important topic indeed. Anyone have comparisons between this and let's say the Dubs and/or the V-Moda Faders? Dubs I've heard are "meh", and the Faders I've heard nothing but great things. Would love to hear anyone's experience between the three.
It looked like a cool video couldn't hear anything after the intro, and I think I am deaf now. Well at least I can still enjoy your face and try to read your lips. Haha jokes aside I 100% agree with you ear plugs are a must for your modern day raver or live music/concert enthusiast!
ok so my hearing is bust. So will have to get hearing aids (at least until a miracle drug that fixes hearing loss is available, but I don't see that happening anytime soon as "nearly-approved" drugs that claim they will do this, like the FX-322 by Frequency Therapeutics eg, that we've all been waiting for doesn't seem to be moving along...). Now my question is if these hearing aids will help with our hearing throughout the day, should we ALSO wear them at gigs - and when we use dj headphones - or will this cause even more damage? I mean we can hear well in everyday life, but we obviously also can't hear as well at gigs (that's why everyone keeps asking us to lower the volume, I guess, lol). So, we want to hear better at gigs/clubs too, so it would maybe make sense to use hearing aids there too. No?
Ear infections can also cause tinnitus especially if it gets into the inner ears. Also damaging the bones in the ears will cause tinnitus. Anything that damages the hairs in the inner ear will cause tinnitus and deafness.
After watch the above video. Worried about my ears healthy I ordered them. Let me share my personal review about those: I think they are being sponsored by the wrong person. If you are an áudio, musician or Dj professional those are not for you. I saw people talking good things about them on Motorcicle Foruns and also people attending large venues with big sound systems can protect their ears with it. If your plan is use it with your Dj headphones won't work. Because they low too much in this case. So anyway you'll be turning the volume up to compensate it anyway. Most of the cut is on midi range so, yes, you can beatmatch with them but for sure you gonna feel disconected with the venue and also with the music! But that's is my opinion!!! They really reduce volume, but also in the Dj situation makes cueing and beatmatching unconfortable.
There isn't anything to keep your ears from popping. It just a natural thing that happens when your ears adapt to the changing altitude. Everyone gets it, and the intensity varies from person to person. You can try chewing on gum because it helps moved the muscles around your ears helping reduce the pain.
i have that but mine aint like a continues line its like a tv without connection, the old ones, it makes that sound, a little less painful, but i hear it since i was a kid, and always when its all quiet
hey DJ! just bought one of these and they came in today, i was wondering are they supposed to go all the way in so you can barely see them or are they supposed to be mildly visible?
I bet you within 10 - 20 years from now they will figure out how to fix hearing.. still not good to lose your hearing though especially if you are a music producer/dj. I was always wondering how Dj's used those and still were able to hear through their earphones
Eske Ozdemir I don't doubt it, research is sometimes spontaneous and I do believe there are people working on hearing problems all the time. Still, damaging your ears just because you don't want to use ear protection is kinda lame.
Eske Ozdemir do you know how you lose your hearing? there are little hairs on your eardrum that vibrate and pick up the sound, they fall off and thats how you lose your hearing.. once they figure out how to regrow those little hairs we will be golden
Yes I do know but each of those hairs are individually attached to nerves. so if they want to "regrow" these hairs, its more then just a simple hair transplant. Finding each of those receptors is in my opinion impossible...
+Kidde. i use the normal $2 ones all the time, i feel something is better than nothing, im sure these earpeace HD sound better but i think protection of any kind is the moral of this story
meh. foam ones really arent that bad, they just lower the volume too much for my taste. you can normally get them free at most dance events at the info desk
I wasn't listening music on high volume and things like that. But one day I got a white noise in my ears. A bit stronger In my left ear. I don't even know why :(
+crazyminer Gaming YT I have hearing damage - comes from a childhood of growing up in a clothing factory with loud machines and the workers being loud (to go over the machines)... It's mostly the high pitched sounds that are gone. The only good thing is that I don't get the droning sounds unless I'm tired or something else sparks off the incessant droning noises. (Like the sound he had in the beginning of the video - I had a reaction to it, and the droning came back for about twenty minutes after that...) Going to buy this from Amazon soon - I'm trying to protect the rest of my hearing...
I got called lame for wearing ear plugs at a metal concert. Pretty sure it's much more lame to welcome deafness and tinnitus in cases where it can be prevented.

Re-uploaded because the opening was waaaay too loud in the first cut.

Thank you!! I knew I wasn't the only one who wanted to take care of ears my while wanting to be a DJ :D
I just ordered mine! I hope they work well for me.
19.1 kHz
18.3khz Left, 17.6 Right. Tested it couple days ago. Im 26
Astriator everything above 15kHz is enough. I think this little difference is from the cellphone on the right ear :(
Interesting to be watching this with the worst tinnitus i've had in a few years after a huge night last night. Very loud club, my favourite Dj's, but the drive home made me feel like I was missing a sense. DJ's, MC's and audience's that are regularly exposed to loud systems all need to watch out for it, like he said, once it's gone, it doesn't come back
thank man i just started djing and this will help
Thank you! You are a important and inspiring Person!
I am 16 and I was born with tinitus... I thought it was normal for 14 years. But at least it's not as bad as my someone I know, he's a drummer and he says he can't hear his high hat anymore, like at all.
I followed your advice and they are great!
thanks ,that was very very helpful now i know what that sound is
Thank you for your thorough reviews! Based on what I learned in your previous video I was almost ready to buy the Etymotic ER 20 XS High Fi Plugs, but now I may be more interested in the EarPeace product. However, I also checked out numerous positive reviews for the Macks Hear Plugs High Fi Plugs (low profile, very inconspicuous) and the Hearos High Fi Ear Plugs, both of which provide 12 Db noise reduction with supposedly flat, even freq resp. Have you by chance compared the Etymotic or the EarPeace plugs with either the Macks or the Hearos? 20 Db noise reduction seems to be a lot for the applications I'm needing them for, which is mainly for electric guitar practice and moderate volume jam sessions. Thanks again.
If you use musician earplugs and mix with a headset. Don`t you just turn up the volume in the headset then? And how many db do your custom ear plugs kill? Thank you!
New sponsor? Just kidding, I'll check em out!
What other earplugs do you recommend? What do you think about the V-Moda ones?
Do you advise these 'cheap' earplugs to use while dj'ing? i heard you only use them when you are not in the booth.
My ears are fucking bleeding from that first sound.
Glad I had my volume low lol
Good vid my man. Very important topic indeed. Anyone have comparisons between this and let's say the Dubs and/or the V-Moda Faders? Dubs I've heard are "meh", and the Faders I've heard nothing but great things. Would love to hear anyone's experience between the three.
Where did you get the orange fan standing in the background?
Thanks for the help!:D
It looked like a cool video couldn't hear anything after the intro, and I think I am deaf now. Well at least I can still enjoy your face and try to read your lips. Haha jokes aside I 100% agree with you ear plugs are a must for your modern day raver or live music/concert enthusiast!
@djravine awsome video can u help u me with this question I have well I'm debating to either get the pioneer ddj sx2 or ddj rx or the numark nv???

So, we want to hear better at gigs/clubs too, so it would maybe make sense to use hearing aids there too. No?
You should do a video of how to mix hard core beatmach and all the thing that you do on hardcore mix
Ear infections can also cause tinnitus especially if it gets into the inner ears. Also damaging the bones in the ears will cause tinnitus. Anything that damages the hairs in the inner ear will cause tinnitus and deafness.

what earplug is best for travelling?..the pressure from the airplane is killing me..

djravine i had the ringing like at start from playing xbox that is what a doc said at my moms work so you can got it from a lot of things
Yo thx for giving me ear damage at the beginning of the video ;-)
Do the cheaper ones actually fit nicely? or do they fall out
They are spongey, you roll them in your fingers to make them smaller, put them in your ears then they expand in your ear
ITS really good that ravine say that i have that omg that ring is si hard i got tinetis
Me to!
I bet you within 10 - 20 years from now they will figure out how to fix hearing.. still not good to lose your hearing though especially if you are a music producer/dj. I was always wondering how Dj's used those and still were able to hear through their earphones
Highly doubt it! There isn't much research going into hearing damage as a pose to genetic deafness
Eske Ozdemir yeah and i bet you they will learn how to regrow each individual hair
No matter how big or small shows are I always wear my ear plugs
Great point, what is a DJ without working ears.
yep got tinnitus .. had it for as long as i can remember, it sucks nuts :P
Awesome thumbs up
That orange Earplugs i used on a school gig. The sounds was so damm high and ears hurt so much. i don't care about how it looks
I'm 14 and I got ringing in my ears for about 15 seconds at a time... is that bad?
I've been hearing that sound since I was a child, whenever my surroundings is quiet I can hear it, the quieter the louder...so how do I fix that :\
can i use this earpeace while using my dj earphones. the dje 1500?
Totally agree, you only get one set of ear drums. Look after them
BRING BACK MASTER WOBBLE PLEASE
DjRavine, if you don't have the money for those earplugs to $18, would you think it was safe to use normal earbuds?
The quality sucks, i mean, why da fudge would you not have (if youre a dj, because a pioneer costs like so much) 18 $
***** I'm a flat-out broke boarding school student going to a concert fairly soon. That's why.
+Kidde. i use the normal $2 ones all the time, i feel something is better than nothing, im sure these earpeace HD sound better but i think protection of any kind is the moral of this story
I like the sound...
meh. foam ones really arent that bad, they just lower the volume too much for my taste. you can normally get them free at most dance events at the info desk
are there any stores in australia to buy the better plugs?
What song is playing in the background?
I'm french so I don't understand all!
So where can we put this thing?
And if I produce with a headphones is it necessary to put it ?
Anton Combe ah merci mec !:)
good info
How visible are these when in your ear?
It only happened in one ear it was for like 45 seconds is that ok?
By anychance is there an australia store for em?
The irony of needing ear plugs to listen to your review over that music :D
Will you ever do a giveaway

did u have to rape my ears at the start of the video.....
my left ear is kinda deaf but it isn't serious i only hear the ringing sound After a few months.
I just bought some...
my dad constantly hears that ringing sound but he can hear just fine
What was that ear rape noise in the beginning of the video
Tinitus sucks balls.
😂 in China those earplugs come with swimming goggles
hahha Ravine is stoned af
FYI tinnitus can be caused from food allergies high blood pressure lack of sleep....
I have the hearing thing of my rest of my life
+crazyminer Gaming YT I have hearing damage - comes from a childhood of growing up in a clothing factory with loud machines and the workers being loud (to go over the machines)...
It's mostly the high pitched sounds that are gone. The only good thing is that I don't get the droning sounds unless I'm tired or something else sparks off the incessant droning noises. (Like the sound he had in the beginning of the video - I had a reaction to it, and the droning came back for about twenty minutes after that...)
Going to buy this from Amazon soon - I'm trying to protect the rest of my hearing...
I'm not too sure why but he reminds me of Tommy from justkiddingfilms
Can't we put in ear monitors
Remember guys, don't go Pete Tong! ;)
Do you have it
