I now understand you guys, and although I can't speak for Zambian culture, in Nigeria, weddings are believed to be a time for parents to celebrate their children(the couple) and that's why the are mainly sponsor by them(I know this is not the case all the time). I think you guys just needed to speak to them on time management(Nigeria parents don't listen sha). On the bride price, African folks do go overboard with it. Years from now, you would be happy you got to experience this aspect of the African culture.
