Middle finger when you're pissed. 😂
Gun to head when you muck it up :-)
Hi Coach Donny: Can you make a video on how a setter should cover the hitters after setting the ball for them? This is about positioning after set. My daughter has learned much of her setting skills from your videos. Thanks a lot!
from being in club and practicing this alot, I would look at the direction the hitter is coming from. try to angle yourself opposite from them so if the ball comes off of the blockers hands it will come towards you. what I think when covering is to match the angle the hitter is hitting
Feeling bad that I couldn't spot any of them do those signals before setting..
I don't think the hand signals are shown in the video clips. The clips are just there to show you what the sets look like in gameplay.
Pari S they don't signal right before they set. They usually do it before the serve
Me neither
here bc i’m ✨ d u m b ✨
Yes
Same
please do a video about hand signals for combinations. ty :)
crossed index and mddle finger: middle blocker goes tempo 1 while opposite attacker approaches behind the setter and middle blocker for a tempo 2. OR middle blocker goes shoot while wing spiker approaches behind him for a tempo 2
Always good to confuse the other team :)
We use the same in Russia)
I typically use crossed pinky and ring finger for the shoot/wing variation, and btw they are called X combinations
This really helped, I have to switch from being a libero to a setter my junior year, and I knew almost none of these :)
Weird! Where I come from the net is divided in 8 sections. 1-5 in front of setter, a-c behind, and a second number to indicate speed (1 for quick, 2 for high ball). The quick 1 is still the same signal, but we'd call it '11', the back 1 is called 'A(1)', at the antenna behind setting is the 'C2', indicated by middle, ring and pinky finger. Where I play we leave out the speed, as it is implied in the position. Back 1, or A, is always quick. C is always higher tailored to the opposite hitters preference. Standard outside hitters set is a 52, full open hand signal, a fast one of these is full hand but squeezed/bent fingers. For the outside balls, 52 and C2, we never play it fast so generally just call it 5 and C. The 11 and 31 we do vary, sometimes outside hitter comes for a 32, or a 12 (when middle goes around for a 31/shoot)
Sections 4, B are rarely used, at least at my level :) Do the occasional push 1 as you call it, we'd call it a 21, somewhere between a standard quick 1/11 and 31/shoot.
My personal favourite as a middle hitter/blocker is the shoot/31, but for indicating this we use the thumb, index, middle finger :)
Thanks for the video anyway, helps me understand at least what you're talking about in other videos ;)
Netherlands :)
common in Slovakia, for B, back row middle, sometimes for fun we use two closed fists over each other, like boom boom :D
we use 10 for back row as in ten foot line.
@@ElevateYourselfOfficial in switzerland we use a similiar system with 6 sections (1-2 behind setter, in front of the setter 3-6) at the net plus 1-3 for the tempo (1 quick, 2 medium, 3 high). But teams use diffrent numbers to call diffrent variations, for example, in my team we call a "31" (quick (i think its a 1 in your system) a 3 or a "62" (hut set) we like to call a 7. ... (but it depends on ure coach ive heard of diffrent systems aswell :) )
I was taught the same way.
Kayaa pla ganyan ang ginagawa ni ate Jia De Guzman. Ngayon ko lang na getss, natatawa pa ako kpag sumisilip ang mga kalaban sa kanya:))
our coach saw me do a block follow thats why im a libero now😂
same😂
What is a block follow?
compaqtube i think it’s when the block doesn’t kill the ball, a libero follows up with a pass- tho i have no idea so anyone can correct me 👌
May i ask what does libero mean?
@@anne.b8799 defense
This is the reason why i am really quiet when setting i dont know the signs to make its like warrior without a sword
Thank you Very Much Coach . !! Helps a lot. btw any video how to gain power in Spiking??
Neat. The crooked finger I've used for a 1.5 like between 1 and 2. And my team we have a regular slide but we also have a 2 slide. Your shoot is our shocker or 31. The hand sign we use is the shocker. It's like your go sign but add the pinky finger. And both of our setters use the finger and thumb or thumb and two fingers for what you call go. We also have back 3 but it's only to indicate that the ball is going where the setter would Normally set from.
The women's team close to us uses a 9 for 5 and I met a guy from Belgium that has 3 to mean the midpoint between antenna anoddle of net, 5 to mean on the antenna, and 4 to be just inside of that. We also use A pipe C for back row and I use 10 for if can't find a clean set to front so I'm sending it back for for someone to pickup. Whoever has the best chance will just take it. Pipe about .5 or so metre infront of 3 metre line. But I might change 10 to be on the line. Since not everyone can hit pipe. I've also heard pike. But idk what that is.
Could you do a video where you explain how you hit a D? I mean the back-row hit behind the setter.
the clips you use for examples... do you ever upload full games? i find them very entertaining :) specialy from that angle.
thx :D
Hi Coach, do you think that you could do a video on the proper way how to contact a volleyball for a hit. Eg. open hand or closed hand? wrist action and where in relation to your body the ball should be Eg. direcly above you, an arms length out in front of you ect... you have some great videos on footwork and I'd love to see a video on the correct way your upper body including your hands should be at the moment of contact with a hit. Thanks!
Hey Donny! Can we get an updated version of setter hand signals? Maybe you have better insight on this now after a couple years.
im a little bit confused about the hand signal.. who will be the one to spike every hand signal that the setter indicates? coach i'd like to here it from you. tnx.. nice video btw
The net at 4:03 comes down from the ceiling, that’s actually so dope
5 for OH set closer to antenna, 4 to OH, 3, 2 always set at the middle of net, 1 is a quick, the back 1, 8 to opposite/rightside, 9 to opp set closer to antenna. Then tempo 1,2, and 3.
Pipe - run stripe down the middle of your chest with your fingers.
BIC - I've seen it with the middle and index fingers together facing up in the sternum.
I've been playing volleyball with my friends for a few months and as a setter they sometimes tell me that I can't go for the 1st ball... Is it unwritten or written rule?
It’s taught for the setter to get the 2nd ball because the defenders are good at passing to the setter which is good at setting. If it comes to you set it, if not let your defense give it to you.
I think I saw in a Japanese game. They were showing it behind their backs. It was a two but they were tapping one finger. Maybe indicating a combination attack with the middle and the pipe and he was tapping on who the ball was going to??
Can you talk n teach. Volleyball weight room training n volleyball Injury rehab Thank you
Can tou explain what people mean when they tell setter to make a 1 number ball or a 4 number ball
My team splits the net in 9. We then add the height of the ball after the hit position. 1 being Quick set and 3 being hi ball. 2 is inbetween for faster Balls. The numbers are then put together wich means a Quick set is 41 shoot is 51 back Quick is 31 etcetera
Sir Coach Donny.. . I did not understand what's the purpose of giving hand signal to the player who serves the ball. Please make a video on that, thank u
Video suggestion: Covering your hitters - where to be positioned, and responsibilities.
Well, I've never really heard of set positions for covering balls. What I've been taught and what I've seen in club and college is more of a "go with the flow" kind of thing. Like, there is basic areas people are expected to cover but they are pretty obvious.
Thanks coach. Ive been learning a lot from you
We call Two in Russia - the meter, because you do this set almost at 1 meter over the net. We use thumb up symbol to indicate it.
«Марита»
Передача идет как на «метр», но до этого нападающий имитирует разбег на
взлет, затем останавливается, поднимается блок, затем прыжок нападающего
- он вместе с мячом должен «перевисеть» блок, который уже должен уже
опускаться, и затем наносится удар поверх блока.
Большой и указательный пальцы образуют круг (ОК)
My group utilizes the finger and thumb length on shoots to request changes to the standard.
Thumb pointing up, give me a little extra time to get there (height). Thumb down, normal. Thumb twitching quick, send that shit fast and low.
Finger extended, outside. Finger bent at knuckle, bring me in a bit.
A lot of the different types of set calls are combined by this method. Even a misread call (finger positioning) leads to a hittable, albeit not perfect set. Also let's you quickly tell the setter what to adjust without giving a full hand signal
Hey Coach Donny, could you make a video on how to set and hit the faster outside balls? (Go balls?) :)
can you post a video on how to execute a slide for middle hitters
simple yet informative!!!
Just make it own signals like 1 for mid 2 for outside 3 for quick 4 for synchronized and 5 for back set
_I've always play as setter..but i never learn the sign..hehejeas long i can throw the ball high in spiker can jump..that's it..hahaha_thanks coach i learn from u now..still i watch everytime this video u make..thank u so much..godbless_
Didn’t include signals for the back row in this video, which is an unfortunate oversight, because back row hitters can be equally valuable. Perhaps you could edit this to include back row signals in the same video?
josh tuanigas sets where amazing in the clips of him
I always run a 32/rip or a Go , I’m not tall enough might as well be quick haha
For bics we do a closed hand with the thumb pressing a button
CAN YOU MAKE A VIDEO ON HOW TO IMPROVE BLOCKING TIMING. THANK YOU! :D
Thanks!
Is the broad hit the same as a slide hit?
What about back row? I know pipe is normally a fist pounding the other fist, and I think D ball is brushing the right shoulder, and A ball is brushing the left shoulder. I may be wrong. Coach?
Big Chuck in the house!
Does the USA use different hand signals from the rest of the world? Cos we use ABCD with an A (signalled by a thumbs up) being what you call a “1”
Hye..can u teach me on how to do a rotation receive and serving rotation??im a beginner..please...i have issue with that??and can u tell me why the backline people didnt do a receive??
The different king of tiempo
Ashok Sairam universal channel used this tutorial in his channel.. im curious that he ask your permission😊
coach what the best position for a setter to set any of These signs
coach do all positions in volleyball have hand signals or just setters
I am new to volleyball. Who does the signaling?
Because i didn't see any of the signaling in the video😆
I liked before watching the video. I know I am gonna like it anyway
Coach Donny, why do you think the slide is extremely rarely done by men at the top level? Out of the pros, Brazil's Lucas Saatkamp is the only attacker I've been seeing do that.
takes long and easy to track. Also, the Americans run bic a lot so it takes up space.
what is the standard hand signals in volley ball
R1-R3 hand signal for both middle and opp to go for 1 and back 1 simultaneously?
Pls tell me..how to switch positions during rotation...with libero
very helpful video for passing also!
A friend and I use something like these when we try spiking with "rythm 0", the setter points his belly's mouth👻
When hit the ball , wat is the correct place in hand to hit
Studying this better than my upcoming exam
nice one couch
nice and easy signal to learn.
Can you do a hand signal video on back row attacks ? Thanks !

Whats the difference between back two and a five ball?
Very helpful buddy
What's the difference between go set and shoot?
Very helpful for me .
Toooooooootally different from my place 😳 I used to think this is universal 😅
Coach donyy all of hand cignals and cignals for combination plays😊😊
I’m the ace I’m my team and the setter always does symbols so um trying to remember XD
what the different of push one and quick... i realy cant understand
this is so badass
Hand signal for back court Pipe?
I don't get it. When do you use these signals? Do you show them before the play or during the play?
Before the play.
You look at each player and signal what set you want to run with them for every play of that point or the first play.
@@jay-fever okay. Thanks
Thankyou po
Hi, like your videos a lot!!!! You hit with a hammer!!!! How tall are you??
nice suggestion
Great video
Can you do a tutorial on how to properly do a one handed underhand pass? I usually do it while playing, but it's never a really consistent pass. Thank you!
Thanks :)
What's the hand signal for a dump set
when to. signa l? before or after receiving the ball of the first ball??
John Mark Voltron Serving your opponent or your teammates
For us we use 2 finger gun for hut and 1 finger gun for go
what about the cross, stack, chaos, jones and shocker?
Here in the Philippines, cross is a play where the the middle approaches for a slide but instead the setter sets a number 2 high ball in the middle and the hitter approaches from the right side. The signal is you cross your point and middle finger, just like the "cross fingers". I do not know much about the Stack, chaos and jones but the shocker is like the quick tempo hit from the backrow. Its signalled by no.1 followed by a fist signal to indicate a pipe. So the outcome would be the middle player would approach for a 1 but then hes just a decoy and the setter will give a number 2 high ball to the backrow hitter/pipe. But thats just in the Philippines especially in my school
Sir any how can you give me training?
I’m from a rural and remote village in West Bengal in India!
How can I reach to you sir?
What about the Pipe set signal?
Should I use these at a middle school level
Wow! I never knew there where so many kinds of sets o_o :-)
Nice video bro
nice video, nice work (Y)
USA signals
We use different ones in Brazil..
anybody know what the "C" hand signal is? does it mean reset? or standard set? im from vancouver, canada btw!
C is a back court set for where the server position is. Usually used when setter is front court and there is only 2 front court hitters, it allows for a back set option. I'm from Toronto!! Also its a C ball because the position behind power is A and middle back is B.
I agree with him^ no.5 position is A, no.6 is Pipe, and No.1 is C. Also from Vancouver bro!!
Is there a vid oh how to do a libero toss?
+Elevate Yourself its a technique where the libero jumps to vanguard area and tosses the ball mid air to the spiker. Its in the haikyuu anime and I was wondering if its a real thing or not
instead of the gun thing with one finger, we open and close our hand to signal a quick one
how to create a combination attack
might want to hit the ball at peak, looks like most a foot over the net.
1:11 Quick Sets
I play at eagle mountain sports plex
I'm watching this cuz as a setter I can't explain how to hit my quick sets lol
