I just found your Flosstube channel and I LOVE IT!!!! I am 65 years old. I have been daycaring my 9 grandchildren for the past 17 years. The last one entered school 2 years ago so I became a lunch lady at our high school. I took a 25 year break from cross stitching and started back last year. I am loving it. So happy I found Flosstube and YOU. Have a wonderful week.

Hello Lynn, so many beautiful projects and gorgeous finishing too. I keep my dmc in those plastic hinge lidded boxes which works well for me. I keep the over dyed on a large ring but I find it quite scruffy and am not really happy so am on the lookout for another system for them. It is hard being at home but thankfully we have our crafting and this wonderful online community to encourage each other to keep spirits lifted during these strange times. Thank you for sharing your stitching with us, take care and happy crafting, Teresa 🍂🧡💛🤎🍂

Oh, my, your Needlecraft ABCs is gorgeous. I also like the Enchanted Alphabet. I'm old school so I have my DMCs on LoRan cards. From the skeins I cut lengths of 18 inches and then put it on the card. The card hold 10 to 12 flosses. The cards are three-hole punched and go in a notebook. My overdyeds go on book rings. I have a laundry type drying rack that hangs on the back of my craft room door. I put the rings on the rods by brand alphabetically. I don't have many silks so they go in a small bin. Thanks for the great flosstube. Glad your cat is doing better.

Hi, I love your stitching! I keep my non DMC threads in baggies on a ring too, because I have cats (5 rescues) I need my threads to be kept somewhere that limits cat hair contamination :D . You're story about Phoebe made me laugh bless her, your face when you said she just let the vet cut them was pure surprised delight. I totally get that. One of our cats has long hair, but hates being groomed, attacks the brush/comb/scissors, and any hands holding them. So she can get little mats that take a lot of patience and time to get out. My daughter's come back to stay with us, (before and because of lockdown) and without thinking about it while stroking the cat, she just started kind of teasing them apart with her fingers, and gently pulling out any dead hair, and Binks loves it! and is now clump free. Could have knocked me down with a feather. Sorry that's so long!

Lovely videos, Lynn. We’re almost neighbours- I’m in Manchester, so like you, it’s more or less a weekly trip to the supermarket and walks for us. Thank goodness for stitching - I love doing Samplers. I have been stitching for almost 30yrs and I’ve always stored my DMCs in plastic postcard wallets, put a small sticky label in the corner with the number on it and keep them in numerical order in two shoe boxes!! 😂Hardly the height of glamour but it keeps them clean and easy to see and it works for me 😀. Stay safe.

Hi Lynn! I love your projects! And the frames you use are great! I store my DMC on bobbins in numerical order in compartmented boxes that are the perfect size for them. Because there are multiple boxes, I have them labeled with the number range of each box and store them on a shelf in a hobby closet I share with my husband. I use stackable drawer organizer trays for my fancy floss. They are clear acrylic and I label them as well, with the company name then the alphabet range in the tray. They stack beautifully on my shelving, each keeps the contents of the one below it clean and dust free and I can see at a glance where everything is. I just lay the skeins flat in the tray. I have to search a bit in the tray when I need a color, but I don't mind that at all because the more I look through the tray, the more familiar I keep with what I have on hand to work with. Thanks for doing these videos, I'm really enjoying watching!

So pretty Lynn , loving all your finishes and WIPS ! Thank you for your idea with the bag tags , it is always nice to try to find some organization to all our projects , i
I find I can not if everything is helter -skelter ! My DMC is on floss bobins numerically in an old plastic fishing tackle box -magnum by plano . It has two sides and I put loose ones not on bobbin cards yet on the other side by color: For my fancy floss I purchased over-the door metal racks ; each have four hooks , one the hooks I separate into alphabet using circle tags for each letter I then put each letter of floss on inexpensive metal shower rings ,then about two -three groups of these go on the over the door hook. The whole over the door rack goes on a tall 2 piece wood shutter ( like ones used for closet doors )that stands up in the corner of my sewing room . The flosses are in sight and look pretty hanging down together and don’t get tangled up . I have one metal rack for each type of floss I have . Weeks , colorworks and gentle arts . I was about to move and this idea came to me on how to move without a huge mess of floss ! I hope my description helps . A picture would make it easier !

Lynn, I wanted to get back to you on the pins my daughter used at the frame shop to stretch her cross stitch pieces. I checked on Amazon and they’re not available. But if you go to your frame shop they may be able to sell you some. They’re called Ocean Brand bank pins No. 20 - 1 1/4” 1/2 lbs. She also said this - using acid free foam board center fabric on board leaving fabric big enough to wrap around the edge. Starting in the middle of each side pin the center and start adding more pins from the center out alternating sides while gently stretching the fabric keeping the rows of stitching straight. You may have to pull some pins out and readjust fabric positioning so that it is square and straight. Once pins are placed around the entire edge and the work is straight, push pins in all the way and use acid free tape to secure fabric edges on the back side. Hope this is useful. Have a great day!! Enjoyed your work again!! ~~ Karen McFaddin

My third flosstube of your tonight! Your stitching is beautiful. So many finishes!! I just came back to cross stitching . Well I never totally stopped, but I did not stitch very often. I stumbled across Flosstube and I have been doing a lot of online shopping . Good thing I kept all of my DMC. I do needle punch too so I had some Weeks Dye works and Gentle Arts flosses. I am busy collecting more. I would love it if you could show your elephant sitting on the shelf behind you. I think I have that pattern. Bye for now from Illinois, USA

Hi Lynn, your Phoebe sounds like our Whimsy! She wanted human contact on her terms, lol! She was with us 17 years. I’m amazed at your Phoebe being 20! Please give her a pet for me! You did an amazing job with all those finishes! Wow, you were busy! I store my DMC floss on bobbins as well, but then I have them in the floss-away bags by color family (ex. all the shell pink are together). I keep the bags in photo storage boxes by color (blue/green/gray all in one box, etc.). I’ve only just started buying hand-dyed floss in the last year, so I don’t have that many. I bought a metal hook organizer (bigger than a key organizer, smaller than a coat hook rack). I plan to store them on that once it’s put up on the wall. Have a great couple of weeks!

I think we all have had a Phoebe. I had a Pumpkin years ago who liked to be stroked but only on her terms too. Now I have Winston and Nell and they are as different as can be but both were feral kittens. Winston loves to be stroked and gives a lot of love too but Nell doesn't want to be picked up, held, touched or whatever unless she initiates it and she's very persistent when she wants loving. She sleeps on my side most nights! Mine are strictly indoor cats and I keep their nails trimmed myself, Winston easily but Nell with a fight for each nail done but they also have a kitty condo which serves as a scratching post.

I store my floss the same as you and it works perfectly 👍🏻😁. I think the thread drops would drive me mad. Too much work 🤣. I just want to stitch and not worry about thread containment.

Another lovely video, Lynn! You certainly accomplish a lot. I’m getting less done this month as I am doing the Durene Jones Halloween mystery SAL. I also keep my DMC on bobbins, in floss boxes. The few other threads I have are just in plastic bags in an old shoe box. I bought them years ago and rarely use them, though these days I am trying to use them more so that I don’t run out of DMC! 😉

Thanks for the videos. They’re great. I store my master set of DMC and stash of fibers in DMC cabinets I bought cheap over the years from stores that were going out of business. Those wooden boxes with drawers you see in LNS’s. I kit up floss for individual projects and keep them in flossaway bags. I hate bobbins and I don’t care for thread drops either. The bags work well for me.

Hi! Good to hear that your cat is doing well now. I store my dmc, cxc and hand dyed floss same way - just in ziplock bags. But I keep dmc and cxc together based on their number, like all 300-399 together. It’s a real hell to kit up big projects this way but I move quite a lot throughout the year and I just abandoned the idea of storing them in a better way. Cause all the ziplocks just fit in 1 big suitcase together with the rest of my stash and I can always move it easily. I m really looking forward to settling in one place already and getting one of those tiny drawers for floss so I can reach any color easily at any moment

By the way, my floss system is the same as yours, with DMC on bobbins and the overdyed and silks in the bags. Wanted to answer your floss question. My DMC is stored on bobbins and plastic storage containers. My overdyed threads are stored in floss away bags and these are then in a wooden box that I believe a bottle wine came in one Christmas. When I am working on a project my dmc colours go into floss away bags and if called for any overdyed threads these I then ring clip them and they are kept with my project. To keep my projects that I am working on organised I purchase plastic zip bags from Wilkos.

You get a lot of lovely projects done fast! I am still figuring out how to do finishes and framing. I’m afraid my storage system is ziplock bags. I like to keep my thread supple and on the skein so do not put it on bobbins any more. I also use bees wax on every thread and make sure on each stitch the floss is separated (put needle between the two threads) to get a neater finish.

I have my DMC on bobbins in floss boxes that I bought very cheaply in the states 30 years ago you can get them here now but I think they are expensive. I store my fancy threads in a big box on file cards then they drop into a box copied from Vinna for this but I find it to big. I might try your idea of little plastic bags. The silks get fluffy when stored together

Adorable Toy Shoppe! Did you knit the little elephant on the shelf behind you? It resembles Little Cotton Rabbits style. Very cute!

Hello Lynn, thanks for sharing your wips and finishes, you have such a wonderful variety of both. I store my dmc on bobbins, and fancy floss on thread rings, stored in really useful boxes. Lol that sounds like I have a lot, the reality is 2! My question is how do you store your charts and patterns?

Thank you! I store my charts in a cupboard called Kallax from IKEA - it has boxes in the square holes, and I have one for fabric, and one each for small charts, large charts and kits. I also have a few lever-arch files for charts from magazines, etc.

Beautiful work! You have quite a number of lovely projects! I live near that cross stitch store in NJ that you mentioned (Where Victoria's Angels Stitch). I've been there several times and could just get lost in there for hours. I haven't been there in quite some time (not sure if they're still open) and I found an equally wonderful shop a bit closer to me. It was fun to hear you mention it though. Question for you: on one of your autumn samplers you mentioned you were using some classic colorworks thread and substituting DMC for other colors. Do you find you are pleased with how the color on the piece comes out? I have some pieces that I want to use some of the called for "fancy floss" colors and substitute DMC for the other colors (because of cost and availability of the threads). Does mixing fancy floss and DMC still make the piece as pleasing colorwise? Thanks!

Thank you! I am finding that I don’t like using the DMC subs on the Autumn Gifts design... it’s fine for the little leaves and small patches, but the big leaves in the centre of the design are in Cayenne, which is one of the colours I’ve subbed, and I don’t want them to be in solid DMC so I’ve now ordered a skein of the CC!

Beautiful stitching, Lynn. Do you have a favourite count and colour of linen?

Thank you! I prefer 32ct and white linen, although I do like stitching on any colour of linen!
