I like to use this technique on my retouches mostly all the time and I just adjust it to my image needs :)

how come the 3.3v don't have the 8bit 16bit frequency separation option?

I understood how to use Low frequency and high frequency layers, but I don understand the work of correcting tone layer.

It is there so you can do the work that you are most likely doing on the Low Frequency layer now. It is smarter to work on the empty "Correcting Tones" layer (or any blank layer between the LF and HF layers for that matter) because it opens up a lot of additional tools for you to use (masking, blending modes, opacity changes) and allows you to easily revert any mistakes that you may make. If you work directly on the Low Frequency layer you cannot do any of that. Hope this helps!

I have seen a video from phlearn about frequency separation, he used laso and hit gaussian blur to smooth the skin, whilst you use brush. Can I ask why or what is the difference? thanks

+JBlucozaderiader the difference is in the result and what works for you best. Note that Phlearn are digital artists, not retouchers.

Using gaussian blur doesn't give the best result... he just fades shadows and highlights
