      Thank you!! Keens vs. Hawksmoor is a really tough call. I think Keens is better for an old fashioned, historic New York experience. Hawksmoor doesn’t have that New York feel but it’s still beautiful and the food is fantastic. Both are amazing though!

    I remember this chain restaurant with the word 'University' in it. This in California, 30 year ago. I like the pan fried steak for breakfast. It a thin cut. Less than a centimeter thick. Gray in the inside, but you use Tabasco sauce and salt and pepper, it pretty kick ass. 'Best' steak a reality for people eat steak after 6pm. Some people eat heaviest meal at lunch or breakfast. If you no know how to cook, you pretty impress by 'utility' meal.

    Living in London Hawksmoor is very accessable, and I've been to three of their branches. They are very good, but there is so much better available. I'm sure everybody has their favourite, and Sagardi in Shoreditch, is not particularly mine, but it's Basque dairy cow steaks will take you to steak heaven! It's not a competition but the best this and the best that, is very reliant on personal opinion. @@titusrider7948 But for it to be funny it needs to have at least an element of truth in it. Boiling beef has been popular in the US and UK and even Austria for reasons of difficulty finding good quality meat. However its not at all popular now and hasn't been for many generations.
      There isn't actually anything inherently wrong with boiling a steak (sous vied style certainly would work) as long as you sear it at the end. The end result wouldn't be significantly worse as long as you took care of water time and temp, (ideally you would bag the steak) to stop the juices leaving into the water. But what do I know as a Brit. I haven't a clue.

    DO NOT GO DO NOT GO. I was sooooo disappointed and I will tell you why. I am a steak expert and a semi Pro cook. I have eaten in just about every top steak house in NY but never this place so I was excited. Me and my best friend went. We are both medical professionals. I wanted a 20 ounce T bone but I was told they had none available. They only had porterhouse and minimum size 26 ounces. I agreed. My friend ordered the Filet Mignon. Porterhouse is $1.50 more per ounce than T-Bone because the ratio of the fillet portion is higher than a T-Bone. I ordered medium rare. They brought me a T-Bone NOT a Porterhouse. I refused the steak and I was starving! They came back 10 minutes later with another T-Bone and I blew my top. I refused the steak again. I asked for the manager but instead the waitress came back and said the manager was going to send me a Filet Mignon free WITH the T-Bone that they supposedly didn't have available. It came and was NOT medium rare but more medium and I hate medium. This was a lot of bull and obviously 90% of customers would not have known that the steak was NOT a Porterhouse. I knew. I was so angry by then and disappointed it didn't matter anymore. The bone marrow appetizer had practically NO marrow. The mashed potatoes side was so small we had to order 2. The bill came to almost $400 dollars and I just wanted to get the hell out so I paid without even checking the ridiculous price. We got 2 desserts to go and for 10 bucks they give you 3 small pieces of chocolate candy. !!!!. They should stay in the UK because they are not worth the trip even to Manhattan. Never again. We should have went to Lugers or the Capital Grill. Huge waste of money and time. The lies about the Porterhouse and the trouble they went to trying to cover it up was insulting and disappointing.

    am not exactly sure what “British owned” has got to do with the calibre of the food on offer? Very little, I imagine. Brits famously do certain dishes but Steak (which in itself is boring stuff) is not one of them - especially overpriced and flavourless meat coming from corn-fed cattle is underwhelming

    • @travelfuller
      @travelfuller  5 месяцев назад

      I think you answered your own question! Steak isn't necessarily something you'd expect to be excellent from a UK based restaurant, making it that much more significant we felt it held its own against it's famous New York counterparts. And it is certainly expensive but similarly priced to all of the steakhouses in the city

    • @tristanrl1940
      @tristanrl1940 5 месяцев назад

      @@travelfuller hallo and thanks for yours. Yes but I would be remiss not to say - that a joint of beef in the UK and as is often the case in much of Europe, is properly grass-fed, which imparts a great deal more flavour without falling back on a high percentage of fat to lean ratio for flavour. I have lived in both countries. Alas, Americans are cultured in dining and food consumption by the dreaded cosmetic industry, which simply means it’s not uncommon for them to avert anything with a strong aroma and flavour. These steakhouses extol a glamorisation of excess, waste and grotesque eating habits
