Wow Kristin, you were on.The joy you have eating the meal, then describing the cook, taste and texture, it's like being there eating. 5 Forks Way Up.....
Thanks haha if by on you mean making a mess than definitely! It’s easy to describe meals we really like. It gets a lot harder trying to be critical without being too negative
Benjamin Steakhouse is a solid spot! For another Peter Luger clone I recommend checking out Wolfgang's Steakhouse sometime. Like Benjamin's it was opened by a former Peter Luger employee but Wolfgang worked at Peter Luger for 30 years! The menu is almost identical to PL but I found the steak to be much better.
We really enjoyed it! I was pretty surprised to see you didn't have as good of an experience at Benjamin. Thanks for the recommendation! We've actually been to Wolfgang's before starting the channel but have been meaning to go back and make a video on it. Would love to compare our top steakhouse rankings some day, I think we'd have some pretty interesting differences!
@@travelfuller For sure! I feel you could ask 20 different people in NYC their favorite steakhouse and get 20 different answers. Looking forward to the Wolfgang's vid!
Nuttin' like knowing your competition & leap-froging ahead or just another me-too steak house? Still, competition is healthy & good for the consumer. Good presentation guys, thumbs up. Cheers from sunny Florida.
Grat review guys! I saw UA's $45 lunch prix-fix video & was not impressed with Benjamin's! However, after seeing your dinner $60 4 course prix-fix I changed my mind! I first ate at Peter Lugar's in about 1980 & never went back! Keene's then became my NYC go-to! Super deal with the sirloin steak, super service, very attractive room & reasonable price! What about Wolfgang's ? The other ex-Lugar's employee? Kristin, watch that balsamic vinegar😅
Thanks! We watched his video too and were pretty shocked by the quality difference. Our steak was actually one of the best we've had and the apps and sides were excellent as well. We're in the process of making a steakhouse ranking but the sneak preview is that Keens and Hawksmoor are our top two currently. We went to Wolfgang's once with friends so we couldn't film. We're hoping to go back soon and do a video on it too! Although we've got seven more steakhouses filmed that we've gotta post first. Haha I'll try my best!
Young lady where do you put all that food! What an appetite! Your presentation and description are wonderful. It’s a pleasure to watch your video’s because you two love food and restaurants. As a retired culinary professional this makes me happy. We work hard to please. Thank you both. ❤
Haha I really don't know! Really glad you are enjoying our videos. There is really nothing better than an amazing and thoughtful meal in a beautiful restaurant. Thanks for watching!
Thank you! Unfortunately we never got to try it but luckily the city has a ton of amazing steakhouses. We've been to more than 20 and have barely scratched the surface
Great video guys thanks for sharing. I remember your Peter Luger video, and how they gave you a hard time about using a visa gift card-which is so ridiculous-sometimes it feels like Luger enjoys giving their patrons an unnecessary hard time like a cartoonish misanthrope 😂 . Benjamin seems a genuine dupe for PL, but with great service..service is one of Lugers weak points so Benjamin seems like the obvious choice for me. Thanks again!
Thanks for watching! Yeah that was frustrating for sure. I actually think the infamous Luger service might be part of the “charm” for some people and I’ve seen tourists say it feels like a “true New York experience” since we’re rude I guess haha but we really enjoyed Benjamin! It’s easier to get to, the steak is just as good and the service is miles better
@@travelfullerI grew up in NY and now live in Florida ugh (not by choice) …NYers aren’t rude, we are no nonsense and busy so we don’t have time for small talk. Besides, southern hospitality is fake and overrated especially if you’re from a marginalized community like me, I’d much rather deal with open minded gruff New Yorkers any day. But anytime I go to Lugers on my trips home (my husband loves it), it seems cartoonishly rude even for NY 😂…love your steakhouse videos, makes me miss home…you both deserve a lot more subs thank you from Kristina!
Thanks so much Kristina! Haha at least it's a lot warmer and sunnier than here at the moment! Totally agree, and that's even more true in the city. We actually just went back to Lugers to film another video and had a much better experience. The service still wasn't great but at least we didn't get in trouble this time. Really appreciate the support!
Nice review. Vastly different experience it appears than UA (maybe because he had the lunch prix fixe?). I would try Bowery Meat Company if you haven't. Bit more modern with more interesting sides than some of these "classic" steakhouses. The ribeye at BMC is up there as one of the best American/non-wagyu steaks in the city.
I know, we just watched his video and were pretty shocked how different the lunch special was than the restaurant week meal. We’re actually going there this week! We’ve got a ton of videos already shot that we have to edit and post first but hopefully it goes well and we can get that one out soon
@@travelfuller I would get the dry aged Tomahawk for two. I don't think you can go wrong with the prime ribeye or prime NY strip, but the dry aged tomahawk is on another level. It's a splurge, but it's only a bit more expensive than places like Peter Luger etc and the cooking is much more precise IMO. For sides, I've had any of the following and they're great: broiled oysters, hash browns, kung pao duck wings, caesar salad, and most of the vegetables.
@@travelfuller Have you reviewed, or any desire to review, the Grand Central Oyster Bar? I moved from NYC in 1994, when I was 38, and had never gone there. Visited a few months ago and went for the first time, and holy crap. You have to be into oysters and clams to appreciate it, although of course there’s other stuff on the menu, but the place is not only historic… Not only an architectural masterpiece.., But the best shellfish I’ve had during my 67 years on this planet.
I think you mean Guga... also no. Grill lines are not burn marks. Watch his video cooking a steak for Gordon Ramsay and you'll see the exact same thing
Sorry to hear that! That’s the tough thing with basing our review on just one visit. Our steak was perfect but we’ve gotten some other comments from people who had similar experiences to you
There's another steakhouse called Wolfgang's Steakhouse that is very similar to Peter Luger's as well. The way the steak is presented and also the sauce. Another PL dupe hahaha.
Why do food reviewers get sirloin at expensive steakhouses, when they can get ribeye? It's like going to the best burger place and ordering a patty melt.
AS a 70 year old never married man I do miss taking a lady to a high end restaurant .....miss those days evee though I of course I always paid.... I used to love spoiling an attractive woman

you need a lot of Benjamins to eat there.

Benjamin Steakhouse does look very comfortable and the steaks are very tender from your experience.
We had an amazing experience! I think it’s one of the best restaurant week deals in the city
Great review excited to try this one day!
benjamins is superb … i like how low key it is
Y’all have been basically every NYC steakhouse at this point. I’d love to see a top (and bottom) list 👀
Definitely! We've got 7 more steakhouse videos already filmed but still need to edit and post and then we're planning on doing a ranking

my favorite brother and sister channel
I've been to Benjamin's many times, it's excellent.
Totally agree!
I'm ready for a nap just watching....
Adam Sandler
Haha yeah I get that a lot
I think they are a better looking couple and he’s not at all “Douchy” like Sandler…seems like a super nice couple.
@KrisKk08 thanks so much!
Yes! “Ain’t too shabby!”
This place looks fantastic! And great review!
But your filet mignon was definitely medium rare, leaning towards rare.
It definitely was! And thank you! And yeah it looks a bit pinker in the video than it did in person for some reason

@@travelfuller Early birds get the worms.
Slog! It's whipped cream! It's just heavy cream whipped. How much different can it be ?
Why can’t they do a baked potato best side for a steak
They actually do have a loaded baked potato that looks really good! I don’t think it was on the restaurant week menu though
The filet is definitely medium rare
Gugu will say every time, grill marks are just burnt steak... you want it seared, not burned.... LOL!!!
I think you mean Guga... also no. Grill lines are not burn marks. Watch his video cooking a steak for Gordon Ramsay and you'll see the exact same thing

If you order a medium rare steak and are served a medium steak . . . it is NOT "okay"!

Yes! We actually just tried it. That video should be out next week!
I’ve been to both, better ambiance, but not better
Looks more like a pork loin 😁
Why do food reviewers get sirloin at expensive steakhouses, when they can get ribeye? It's like going to the best burger place and ordering a patty melt.
We got the sirloin because it was part of the restaurant week menu but typically we order whatever the steakhouse tells us is their specialty!

UA? He ordered completely different things so it could just be that!
Those both looked like great steaks, but we didn’t hear much commentary from Will.
Did anyone hear some vocal fry in Kristin’s voice?
🤔
I don’t hear it
Been to both. Lugers has them beat.
Maybe but as far as the steak goes it's only by a tiny bit!
@@travelfuller I think they're all fairly similar. Hard to say which one is the best when all the menus and the way it's cooked are almost identical.
