I don't know why everyone seems so surprised how good a job he does here. The guy is incredibly talented and has obviously taken good care of his voice. He has always been a really strong singer. Good to see him getting some much-deserved acclaim instead of being made a joke of!

They didn't even expect him to be able to sing and couldn't really care less , they just wanted someone they could market. Turned out he was a great singer

Astley never got behind a mixing desk or so
Pete Waterman was actually checking out a band that Rick was part of as a drummer. On the night Pete showed it the lead vocalist was ill , so Rick stepped in & the rest was history.

Saw Blossoms when they supported The Killers Tour last year. They are 👌 awesome & so talented. Rick doing the iconic Smiths classics with them is just fantastic. Please tour with it........ I'm ready to book my ticket. Xx ❤

Yeah, I mean, I really dislike Morrissey, as a human. But I can't deny the brilliance of this band. Part of that was his voice, but Rick nails it so well that all I'm left with is a deep reverence for how fantastic every one of their songs is.
When even Rick feels compelled to cover your songs, maybe it's finally time to bury the hatchet and try to perform together again? This is great stuff, maybe it'll finally kick Morrissey and Marr's ass to carry on the legacy of their band someday.
To his credit Rick Astley has a great voice, really enjoyed this,being a Smiths fan I didnt think I would. Fair play to him! impressed! those trousers though.....brave

@walkerbetweenworld from what I've gathered talking to people of that generation he used to be perceived as just cool and anti-establishment if a bit of prick, but now there's a real sense of betrayal from lots of them since the latter side started being more and more obvious
Out of all the many This Charming Man covers I’ve heard, this one is right at the top (along with Braid’s). This guy absolutely gets what it’s like to be a British working class gay kid

In the crowd it was an absolute priviledge. He put his heart and soul into all the hour and so did the crowd.
