Wan tan mee, I can see that it is not quite my type and the best was on a pushcart by an old lady at Aquee Street some 50 years ago. It has sticky dark gravy.
@@48Holiao charsiu is too artificially red, red. The rest is just black soya sauce. I ate it from small. But since my wife’s family pointed out the black sauce thing I stopped looking. They are from Hong Kong region.

For Penang people we feel dark is beauty and many dishes like fried rice and fried Koay Teow we love to have black sauce added. Where else the red Char siew many Penang's Wan Tan mee also doing the same too. To us is norm
@@48Holiao black soy sauce fried rice happens in East US/Canada, west coast USA prefers HK/Canton white fried rice. It’s just preference. I think black sauce is cheaper or made cheaper. Less healthy. It’s all in the wanton. Some make it with lean pork/shrimp, some just with cheap fat pork.
