This car was build by my dad AndrePienaar who is the owner of Andre pienaar panelbeaters in Welkom. From body work to the engine build he did it all.Aj racing was the tuner but engine was build by Andre himself which is well renowned around for rotary engine builds. It’s awesome to see this car is still around and looked after.
The previous owner and Panel Beater is Andre Pienaar. Fully built by his shop Andre Pienaar panelbeaters in Welkom. I went to school with his son Andre and remember seeing and hearing this machine for the first time. He even took it to his matric farewell.

Being from Canada and living in the United States of (the continent) America, I've never heard of a Mazda Capella. This car is gorgeous and I want one now!
Cool retro car 😊. My dad had a beautiful stock standard 12A RX2 Capella Coupe back in the early 80's. He was the second owner and acquired it from a good buddy of his who had bought the car brand new and took very good care of it. It was my dad's pride & joy and also took great care of it until one day whilst he was at work, his little brother "borrowed" it without my dad's knowledge and ended up crashing it. It was a write off and sadly broke my dad's heart.
sad story but hopefully not so sad as the UK Harry being mad at his brother William :) More seriously, I think most of the rotary engines just wore out so fast in spite of their performance so very few survived. Does anyone know different ?
@Jason Liebenberg I'm a few years older than you, I saw them racing at Kyalami in the 70's, I am impressed someone kept one of these unusual thoroughbreds alive
I've never seen an RX2 before until today on a YT video in Arizona where a Kiwi is showing off his cars and he has the sedan version and said there's a certain look and sound that is the way Kiwi's do it. This 3 rotor Mazda has to be THE most gorgeous car I've ever seen. It looks like something Ferrari would make in the 60's. Living in America, it's kind of neat to see African auto part store TV commercials.
@@shannongramani3309 I was quite young, my father used to help local people with tuning cars and we went to some of the big local races and the Grand Prix in 1975 or around that time, Emerson Fittipaldi was my favourite driver back then even though it should have been Jody Scheckter :)
@@wmtarr886 really great that you have those cool memories. I wish I could have been a fly on the race track back then. I had exactly the same Capella with the origanal 12 A engine for a few years. Restoring it from top to bottom. Had endless problems with the suspension. Engine done twice, by Dana Jordaan and then by Arthur at AJ racing. Sold it about 14 years ago to a guy in Cape town. Awesome yellow Capella. Huge Rotary fan.
Growing up in Trinidad it was called an RX2 there was also a model with 4 round lights in the back called an RE, The model was super fast and sexy to customize old school style. A great car.
They were raced across the Caribbean 1970’s to 90’s with some particularly hot ones in Guyana, Trinidad and Jamaica, before people started bringing down spaceframe RX7’s from the States. Most retired now. There was an RX3 in Barbados ( Mark Maloney?) with a 20B which was swapped out to a 13B turbo. Great sounding and performing engine.
I always respected Mazda for their unconventional efforts, they make great standard engines as well, my B-2600i was a phenomenal little truck, I need another one 🐾🇺🇸✌️
Beautiful and unique car: I love the sound of that three rotor too. As a Brit I love that Afrikaner accent too from Dewald! Spent some time in SA. You have some gems hidden away there. Now if I could get my hands on a Sierra XR8 or Alfa GTV6 3.0!
One sweet ride man, love it!While watching the video I thought it also has some oldschool Alfa Romeo GTA similarities in different cameraangles - Supernice Car!Thanks for the nice video and keep the great work going👍👍👍

Awesome RX2. No frills, so neat & stock look. I only dislike the 17' oversize rims but i assume much rubber needed to cope with so much power. Nvrtheless, this is a very good taste to mod a classic❤

they are basically a RX2 or a 616 coupe google it
It's RX 2 overseas, SA RX 2 or Capella
Whoever did the metal work on that car created a masterpiece.
So so pretty man. Mazda really did make some special cars back in the day.
