Hi Dee I am from Trench Town,when I lived there in the fifties into the sixties Trench Town was never a ghetto. Our neighborhood was well taken care of, mail delivered twice a day, garbage picked up three times a week, the Ambassador theatre on Friday Night 🌙was Vere Johns opportunity knock hour where all the talents competed.Singers and players of instruments. Boy's Town was where sports competition was held. The houses weren't broken down, we had running water, bathrooms with showers, toilet that flushed,very nice kitchens. People had jobs both in Government and in the Private sector. Education was a must, professional men and women lived in Trench town. Most migrated to pursue their respective dreams. Please note we did not refer to Trench Town as " Ghetto " .Unfortunately it became a ghetto when the media gave it that moniker. Good to know that Shorn has joined you in enjoying which was once called the " Hollywood of Jamaica 🇯🇲 . Stay safe . One love, One heart, One Destiny.
Thanks for that bits of information, because I remember Trench Town back in them days, Jones Town as well we never know anything about ghetto the only thing we never had was a gas station 🚉. Thank you. ❤

I wish she would stop repeating that word ghetto. Some things are okay for residents to say, but sounds repulsive coming from visitors. Like in America, the Afro Americans can call each other the N-word, but are offended when called so by others.
What that person said is so true Trench town was never a most fared Ghetto it was a nice neighborhood back then. The JOS BUS USE TO GO THERE AND I ALWAYS TAKE IT TO VISIT MY DENTIST WHICH WAS LOCATED THERE.
Most of what they called ghetto was the residential area. Franklyn Town had an area that is known as Campden Estate. From O'hare Road to Portland Road. Where home was owned by late Governor General Glaspole and rich people. They began moving out of the area and around the area where Big Joe Juice Factory is when they built the apartment complex in Dunkirk communities. They knew the nice living accommodation would be demolished and based on certain mentalities. They move to uptown. Houses in that area still hold good prices when selling. People change area. Campden Estate get their water source through upward camp until today. The area used sewers, no pit where you see waste water running on the side of the road.
Greetings Queen Dee Mwango. Point of correction. ROBERT NESTA MARLEY WAS BORN IN A PLACE CALLED NINE MILE IN THE PARRISH OF ST ANN. OCHO RIOS IS ALSO A TOWN IN ST ANN. These two places are alot of miles away from each other. This is clarification for those who don’t know.
The ghetto has times of peace and times of war. You must always be vigilant and NEVER let your guard down!

Warninggg! I love how D is embracing the hood and is also having a good time! However be carefull! Trench Town violence flare up, drive by shooting can happen at any time! Everyone on Trench Town know their day to day life and living is at the mercy of God! Trust me I know Trench Town! During my primary school days I use to zoom through Trench Town school and various community in and arround Trench Town! Plus I use to sit in Bob Marley yard under the coolie plum tree situated behind the Fire brigade station situated infront of May Pen Cemetery on Spanish Town Road.
