Credits should also be given to XuanZang, who recorded his journey through Ancient India and wrote every details he saw and experienced from his journey to India. His books helped archeologists and historian find the lost history and historical sites of ancient India.

Lol don't expect that from this Hindu people. They also hate Buddhism success that's why in some period of time they also try to Hindu wash the Buddhism lol. Actually no one has respect for Buddhism only those who follow they had but all the other Hindu superior mind people don't like that lol. Because according to them hindutva so more superior and they even say Buddhism come under Hindu lol can you imagine that they also put Hindu in top. No wonder why this got destroyed.

Throughout history it has heavily influenced its neighbours - including China, Japan, Indonesia, Thailand and other south east Asian countries. It was a powerhouse in mathematics, architecture, engineering, mining, manufacturing, philosophy.
It had one weakness though - and that was being a peaceful, non-violent civilization with very aggressive, primitive, warring neaighbours to the north and west of it. This resulted in repeated invasions - theft, destruction and pillage - continuing until relatively recently with the latest invaders from Europe.
However, time and time again India has recovered from these repeated assaults and has always come back stronger. India's future, as always, is extremely bright.

Buddhist India was not weak. Based on the historical facts Mauryan empire's army grew in numbers and stronger in order to protect borders and maintain peace within the borders. In fact the following Buddhist empires like Shung and Gupta also prevailed strong and successfully fended-off all foreign attacks. From the last 800-900 years is when the brahmanism (or hinduism) began to take a hold and with brahmanism came the division of Indian society. This very division led to the destruction of India's actual and real culture of equality and peace. Divided country then was not able to defend itself from any attacks and it is evident that the week Indians such as, brahmins always ended-up supporting and cooperating the invaders. Khilji's invasion was similar too and brahmins who worked with Khiljis to destroy the jewel of India which was Buddhism.

The oldest university of the world is "Takshila University" where the likes of Chanakya were trained. Nalanda university cannot be attributed alone to Buddhism. The school taught all the Darshanas or philosophies as well as Vedas, Ayurveda, Surgery, Metallurgy, Rasayan-Shashtra(Chemisty and Alchemy) etc.
Also, this was not the only one to be destroyed by the invading Muslim Turks who wanted to remove traces of anything non-Islamic. Bakhtiyar Khilji, who destroyed the university came after the doctor from this university helped cure the Sultan in Delhi or some high profile member of his family. This is how they repaid the ones who helped save their lives.
Another important fact to note is that this university was supposed to be renovated and revamped quite long ago, but the command was given to a Noble Prize winner Economist Amartya Sen who after his stint had nothing to show except a small locked room.
Also, Nalanda was not the only university to be destroyed in Bihar(and by extension, Bengal), let alone India. Examples are Vikramshila, Oodantpuri and many more. If the Indian givernment increase the budget of the ASI, one will find new things everyday.

It is a highly decorated phrase to say "lost for 800 yrs".. How it got lost all of a sudden? Reality is stark - burning the great Nalanda was a sheer act of cultural genocide by a bunch of invading barbarians who wanted to annihilate & desecrate anything iconic of Indian civilization. Firstly, Indians of current generation must have the courage to accept facts as it is.. eventually BBC's will cease to do sugarcoating of such historic events.

@@aryanhassan4659 When we look at the India of CE 9-10 centuries, Gupta dynasty (which had ruled over an area of 4.4 million km² Vs the Roman empire of 2.3 million km²) had declined & most parts of north India was ruled by decentralised kingdoms. On a wider scale, it was also the period when Roman & Sassanid empires to the west of India had collapsed. To the north, Tang dynasty in China had cut-off trade through the Silk Road. The resource-deprived central asian tribes resorted to violent raids & there was no unified resistance from any direction. In India, they targeted treasure-pots for economic loot, crushed all centers of faith /cuture/learning as a mark of ideological warfare, induldged in extensive slave trade & forced conversions. In this process, what happened was the triumph of the invading barbarians by brute force over a civilization that was far more evolved & sophisticated. The impact was such that the faultlines still runs deeper even after 1000 years in the social psyche. For any real sense of reconciliation, every Indian without exception must acknowledge this fact & pledge to unity by derecognizing the sheer venom inflicted by Khiljis & Aurangzebs (just as Germans commendably did of the deeds of Hitler).

Heavy militarization and security of the borders, both physical and the abstract, is important to maintain the peace, unity and things of value inside. In 1006, the Muslim Kara-Khanid ruler Yusuf Kadir (Qadir) Khan of Kashgar conquered Khotan, ending Khotan's existence as an independent state. The war was described as a Muslim Jihad (holy war) by the Japanese Professor Takao Moriyasu. The Karakhanid Turkic Muslim writer Mahmud al-Kashgari recorded a short Turkic language poem about the conquest:
      English translation:
We came down on them like a flood,
We went out among their cities,
      We tore down the idol-temples,
We shat on the Buddha's head!
      [66][67][69][70]

      furxan ävin yïqtïmïz
      burxan üzä sïčtïmïz

A bunch of illiterates, thugs, warlords, slaves descendend and for them a temple, a stupa, an university, a fort, a palace all looked the same.
We not only lost an university, we lost a civilization that thrived on this part of the Indus for almost 2500 years till 12th century.
The goon who led this, is buried in a non descript tomb somewhere in West Bengal, India but this university will rise from ashes.

I belong to a village just 5 minutes from the university. Not just this university but Bihar also has place where Buddha meditated for years, birth place of Godess Sita, Guru Govind Saheb's birth place, Sher Shah Suri's makbara and Fort, Jarasand's kingdom and his death place and the third largest ancient empire of the world-Maurya empire, Nanda dynasty ( Alexander who had conquered half of the World had to return as he got scared of the nandas after fighting a small kingdom of India.)
We have Hinduism, Buddhism, Sikhism, Islam and many others. We also have the ancient foreign reserve of the biggest gold mine in the country but government refrains from excavating. I some times feel pity on Takshshila( another big university of the Maurya's) which is now in Pakistan.

BBC self-censored itself. It wasn’t explicit that Khilji and Islamic conquest burned down Nalanda intentionally because it was considered Kafir. Truth, no matter how uncomfortable, must be spoken.

Anger is one of the poisons in Buddhism. Hinduism too. There's no place for anger or hatred. All things happen by the Law of Karma. We can mourn it but no place for anger or hatred. Instead let's practise what the great Nalanda Masters taught.
