Most removals these days are 2-for-1. They either draws you a card(Teferi), get something back from your graveyard(ECD), or have creatures attached to it(All the adventure spells). Cards like Baneslayer angels used to be perfectly playable when we were in a more fair standard. Remember last standard rotation? Lyra Dawnbringer saw plays in many white-based aggro and midrange deck(even Esper control used to include a copy in the sideboard for aggro match up). Most removals back then were one-for-one, even if your opponent kill your expensive creature, at least you’re both down a card.
Ikr? cards like Terror and Elder >Gargaroth are not playable in any way atm., which is very sad. Midrange is not existent. Combo kills in every archtype. Embercleave for aggro, Yorion and sacrifice for everything else. Where have the midrangy days gone, when a back and forth of tactical decisions was a thing. Lame 8 set power creep format. On top a bo1 format whoich encourages attrition and frustration by non-games.
Because to much blue/something to counter and clean board and white get behind fast. The only mono white that i see is speaker into griffin aerie with bishop of wings and rust divine visitation.Every angel + 4 life, and if u get 3 life get a griffin but, at late is an angel so + 4 life, and if an angel dies, create x spirit where x is the number of bishop, but the spirit are angels to because of divine visitation. And broght back for clean boards
Honestly, I'm wondering if it's just good practice to always ultimate Basri if you get the chance, even if it destroys him. Emblems are an advantage the opponent can never take away from you.
This is exactly what I've been asking lately! "Why is no one playing Baneslayer Angel"? It's so good. Maybe it's because of wild cards (or lack there of). But, I've been using it and it rocks. Two copies in the board of Bamt Ramp and 3 copies in Mono White main. Awesome reprint.
Speaker of the havens dont work if the deck always losse the heal gain race. Light of hope + charming pince/revitalize, mean 7 heal for 3 mana, but you always can put take a heart (1 mana +2/+2 and 1 life for each attacking creature) into a lifelink. Altar of the pantheon help a lot with life to, because you could have a god or demigod, or maybe the ozolith with taking back ajani pridemate counters back for that basri lieutenant
One thing ive noticed with alseid of lifes bounty and adventure cards is that if you sac it (if targeted) during the adventure, it wont allow them to cast the actual creature and goes into the graveyard.
As you said, there are so many problems with MTG Arena right now. I actually haven't been able to play for over a month now because every time that I try to load it there is just a blank black screen with the cursor. I hope that they fix this problem soon because I was really looking forward to playing with the new historic cards coming to MTG arena in Jumpstart.
It might be worth running Necropanther for recursion especially after discarding a heliod or even another Necropanther or a linden.. adding 2 power and returning one of those powerful 3 drops to the battlefield to your 1/1 lifelinkers for 2ww is pretty solid.
I have a black screen with a cursor now. It worked fine a week ago and now it just chills on black screen. I tried reinstalling, new drivers, c++ updates, everything. Still, nothing works. Please post a fix if you know one!
I love “speaker of the heavens” in a life gain deck but I’d switch it for “loyal pegasus”. Could drop something for glorious anthem or Heraldic banner. Charming prince is great, haunted witness and garrison cat are another go 1 drop. Really so many ways to make mono white right now. Good games, almost had mono green.
What'd you use to get up to mythic, might I ask? I like the aesthetic of this build. With low amount of wildcards, I only have enough for one deck. Trying to find an aesthetically-pleasing deck with a consistent theme that is also decently strong.
Every time I queue up for a game it changes my resolution to a much crappier one, sometimes it even bumps me out of full screen. Then it freezes during the loading screen, and crashes 70% of the time. Then during mulligans, any time I have to search through my deck, or look through a graveyard it also lags horribly and sometimes crashes. It randomly disconnects during games all the time, but usually only when I'm about to win or right at the very start. While it's reconnecting, it usually skips most of my turn if not all of it, or at the very least makes some stupid card decision for me due to running out of time. Then 90% of the time when the game ends, it freezes on the victory screen and either sits there forever or crashes so much that I have to literally ALT-F4 to exit the game. OH yes, and every time I try to build a deck it randomly disconnects and I lose all progress every 10 or so minutes. Which is infuriating btw.
if u like 3 cost Basri's ultimate for 6 then u should make a deck with, Grateful apparition & repeated reverberation. If/when u get to use his ultimate, u can get 3 emblems if u have 4 open to play repeated reverberation. I just don't know what else the deck needs & I don't have 4 Basri to start testing.
To answer the question in the video title: because it's a mythic card...and mythic wildcards are very hard to come by especially us f2players...and also there are a ton of removals, mass removals, counter spells etc. that can FUBAR it in today's meta...plus more dedicated aggro decks can kill you in turn 3 or 4...you can't spend turn 5 just to play this card in a mono colored deck...splash in green though and you get ramp options...but then again aggro decks on turn 3 or 4...so...nah...other worthy mythics to spend my wild cards on if I get them like the new planeswalkers...
Why is everyone always so concerned with keeping their walkers alive when their ultimates are usually game ending, or massively shifts the game in their favor?
I have problems with the graphics. it is very often black areas that flash. I also had it so bad that you could think the graphics card was defective. There was hardly anything to be seen. The support couldn't help. I have already installed Magic and the graphic card drivers several times. Up to the last update I also had the problem that the game always crashed on the desktop without an error message. but that was due to the language that I have set at magic (German).
Because the meta is either aggro, ramp or flash decks. Aggro will kill you before the turn 5, if they dont, they will probably lose even if you dont play Baneslayer. Ramp on ther other hand will easily have removal for baneslayer. Against flash Baneslayer will just get countered. Its just not a good card in this fucked up meta.
Love the videos, keep them coming! My two cents: Basri's Liutenant seemed like the truth. It turned a wrath around completely. Obviously that was best case scenario, and it took some setup, but it seemed excellent. In fact, the whole deck seemed resilient. Perhaps Selfless Savior (ie Good Boi) could find a spot in the 60, or at least the 75. Baneslayer didn't quite live up to hype, she seemed better suited as a SB card. Perhaps ECD or another low-cost threat would push the deck over the top. All in all, the bones of this deck feel like they've got potential.
I drafted baneslayer angel today and she didnt do anything for me in that format. I was so sad cause i thought she was a bomb. Made me wonder if there is any place for here in standard constructed
I love baneslayer Angel 10 years ago I had a deck using cradle of vitality wall of reverence baneslayer Angel and I also forget the name of the card but is says if you have 40 or more life you win the game. Unfortunately baneslayer angel isn’t very good any more and I prefer dream trawler for 1 more mana I get a 3/5 that grows when I draw a card and I can discard a card to give it hexproof
You probably would have won that game if you had ultimate basri instead of going for the +1 good rule of thumb is to ALWAYS take the ultimate if you get there. Rarely happens, so take em when you can
i am curious how you are able to work a deck with 22 land, i have to include 25 lands at minimum or i sit with 1-2 lands for 10 turns, the shuffler is beyond garbage. its always funny to see streamers playing with 20-22 lands rofl
No Light of promise? It's hilarious in lifegain decks. Try one with Tavern swindler - sudden +6/+6 for an attacking creature (and it doubles itself each round if cast on lifegain creatures).
Why not jam some number of Cryptic Caves into your mono-colored deck to help with flooding out while they're still legal? gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Card/Details.aspx?multiverseid=466998
Never had technical issues but the game UI and gameplay needs a lot of rework. Why game do you ask me to cycle a card when i dont have the mana to do so, whyyyyyyyy !
*shrugs* I always play stuff in a specific order. Lands, then stuff, then attack, then whatever's left, then end of turn. I only play instants during my opponent's turn if they literally have to work that way... like counterspells. *shrugs* Nobody says you have to play like a tryhard MLG Pro all the time. Personally, I also skip over plenty of things just because they are tedious. Like playing against counterspell decks or cat oven decks. Or literally any "information denial" technique. Who the hell cares? I have other shit to do. I don't have time for all that. Everyone acts like it's so goddamned important to cast opt or use a fabled passage during their opponent's end step.. but you know what? It's just annoying. It's not helping. You're annoying. Stop it.

Man I miss divine vis. Feel like you'd still be missing persistence through board wipe.
Honestly, I'm wondering if it's just good practice to always ultimate Basri if you get the chance, even if it destroys him. Emblems are an advantage the opponent can never take away from you.
I feel like if a 5+ creature that doesnt create value immediately or cannot protect itself is just a bad card
It is definitely not a “Bad” card. It’s not top tier, but it’s solid.
Lol "whys nobody playing this??"
•gets rekt
"Oh"
Exactly. Title got me pumped, video let me down.

Opened 3 of these angels on release day, shes so good!
Rule of thumb: if you can ultimate Basri, you ultimate Basri, especially with Ardenvale on the field!
i'm literally screaming when he didn't ultimate basri in the jeskai control game
Speaker of the havens dont work if the deck always losse the heal gain race. I was so triggered when you didn't ult Basri
At 19:00 protection wouldn't have worked against any creature anyway... Questing Beast ;)

Like most aggro its really only good as long as your opponent dosnt do anything to your creatures in the first 4 turns

I use them as walls, they always go after them,
@@demanoth Kiora is best wall.

I get a lot of "not responding" moments. Most of the time it kicks back in, but every now and then oh, I have to restart.
Woooowww nice deck!!you win some Times?;)

I would have over 1000 life and my baneslayer Angel would be like a 300/300
She seems like great top end in bo1 just like lyra was 👍😁 great video man
speaker of heaven and the one drop dragon token maker would make a good red white token deck for historic
You should’ve used the ultimate on Basri when you had the chance!
The video answers the question from the title, right? :)
Had a debate about the viability of Baneslayer Angel in standard. I was like, "Ever heard of Terror of the Peaks?"
There is some background noise comming through your mike, only when you speak tho
I told him that like 2 month ago. He said he will look into that. He didnt fix it. So probably he never will.
Who plays Bloom Hulk?
(In mythic or anywhere for that manner)
MTG Jeff 2020

if u are trying to go wide there is that new human for 4, Falconer
I hope you are feeling better since yesterday.
Can't believe you didn't ult basri in the jeskai game
If she had vigilance it'd be more played. Lyra Dawnbringer was my finisher and I didn't need 2 on board legendary was fine
Congrats on becoming Wizarded
D: why, that throw 35:23
yes, i dont know why he didnt do -6, is just a game that emblem, and jeff say that they have everything, when he had
if I wasn't so tired, I'd throw my computer at my face when that happened
@@haingis the only reason to play basri is the -6, the +1 is a help in turn 3 or 4, but then is a waste of time
These game updates have all but FRIED my laptop
Not gonna lie, you not using the ult of your planeswalker during your 5th game kinda pissed me off.
She'd be a first pick in a draft, and she has a good home in the gates deck.
Your mic resonates a hum (possibly the pc through your desk). It's distinct and annoying and you should do something about it.
I hope we some day get a Serra planeswalker, even if afaik she's dead or something.
@Shadow Dye Not in MTGA unfortunately ^^
No Light of promise? It's hilarious in lifegain decks. Try one with Tavern swindler - sudden +6/+6 for an attacking creature (and it doubles itself each round if cast on lifegain creatures).
i feel that they still need to get lyra
Winners out Bloom Hulk in!
they should make Basri as an avatar
Because its a freaking mythic lawl.

Why game do you ask me to cycle a card when i dont have the mana to do so, whyyyyyyyy !
because it costs 5 mana and dies to removal....
Play mono red aggro
vs MonoGreen you miss a letal!
put a yurion as your companion
So hear me out Jeff “Rakdos Cavalcade deathtouch” .... I’ll just leave this here
💫😎👍
Three consecutive mythic games in a row are all mono-colour deck huh ? what a joke ranking system.
Why do americans say 'hollowblade'? I don't think the blade is hollow, but I do believe it to be hallowed.
Standard Jeff, losing because he greeding instead of going for the long term better play.
I hate lifegain decks.
Go to bed Jeff. You need the sleep king
*shrugs* I always play stuff in a specific order. Lands, then stuff, then attack, then whatever's left, then end of turn.

He's really not that good a player.
