I'm American and have been living here in Italy for the last 40 years....... We definitely have brown sugar in the stores here........ And Philadelphia Cream cheese is very popular here and also used in lot of different pasta dishes..... But anyway I'm glad I found your channel and will be watching..... Take care and God bless you!!

Hi! Yes we do have Philadelphia here but I find the store brand is much better! We don't have brown sugar in the south only Muscovado which is a little stronger and different than US brown sugar- so I try to have family bring us some when they visit! Thanks so much for watching!

Hi! Thank youfor your wonderful videos.
I am not sure if you can get molases in Italy but if you can then I have a recipe for brown sugar. I moved to the NE of the US and can't get dark brown sugar and regular brown sugar is really expensive thus I had to find a recipe.
After trial and error the recipe is mix together in your mixer 1 cup white sugar plus 1 tablespoon molases for regular brown sugar. For dark brown sugar it is 1 cup white sugar plus 2 tablespoons molases. After it is throughly mixed stored in an airtight container or a ziplock bag. Then use as normal.
I usually make just what I need to use for the recipe only but have stored the homemade brown sugar and had phenominal results.I hope this helps!

HI KT! Thanks! I know of the molasses recipe and I did try to make it last year- it worked but for some reason when it comes pre-mixed it tastes better. I found a brand Lyle and Tate that isn't expensive at all and the soft brown is identical to US light brown sugar. Thank you so much!!

Hi Sylvie! It's not common here in the south in our area and they do have muscovado but it is much stronger in flavor than brown sugar in the US.

I get brown sugar in the supermarket in Genova!! Demarera, normal brown sugar , and fancy brown sugar lumps!

Hi Ann! Demerara is raw sugar and American brown sugar is sugar with molasses added to it - more like muscovado but the taste is way too strong the way it comes in Italy. I found a UK brand that makes a US equivalent to brown sugar and it works great.

McVities Digestive biscuits are a very good base for cheese cake.

Hi Ann! I haven't seen those in southern Italy. The Campiello cookies are like a less grainy graham and make an amazing crust for cheesecakes. I have never seen them in the US.

Yes we see Philadelphia here but the store brand we get makes the best cheesecakes- it is a lot softer than the brick cream cheese.

Hi Dianne! Demerara is much different than American brown sugar that has molasses in it and has a different consistency. Muscovado is much too strong to use in recipes that call for light brown sugar.
