That’s cool I play Bari too but I got mine with a custom print and color so it’s unique but I wish I didn’t because the tone is different and the one I used to use was this one I believe and it has better tone
I'm an 8th grader and throughout middle school, Ive always played flute for wind ensemble. Well this year, I was wanting to do jazz band, I could have done it last year, but I decided not to. Well anyways, because flute and saxophone fingerings are very similar, I decided saxophone, and originally I chose alto, but then I saw it, the beautiful and overly big ✨BARI✨. So, I just started bari this year, and for the amount of time Ive played, I think Im doing pretty good! In a couple days, were having our Christmas concert, and jazz band is playing 3 songs, so hopefully I don't mess up to bad!!!! Also love your content 🩷🩷🩷 Edit - TYSM FOR THE LIKES AND REPLIES!!! I’m also in 8th grade, and I started playing the Bari halfway through the 6th grade. I also happen to play the Bari in our jazz band, and it’s SO FUN. I hope you have as much fun as I do playing Bari ❤️❤️❤️
Heyy I did the same thing except I went from flute to tenor to Bari and then sadly back to tenor because the Bari broke😭 MY SCHOOL GOT A NEW ONE IN THOUGH SO BACK TO BARI I GO Also hope you have a wonderful concert!
There is NOTHING like playing a new instrument. All of the keys/valves move smoothly, everything seals well, no dents to obstruct air flow and reduce resonance, absolutely sublime experience.
I play bari sax at my high school and all of them are 20 years old, and one time I went to a camp with another bari player who had a new one and when I played it it felt so look much better than the ones we have. That bari player is gonna have a great day!
We have YBS-62's at our school, they play pretty well despite their many dents and age. Pretty sick of playing the basic 5C mouthpiece though, probably will spend a good chunk of change on a nice on soon, since I plan on pursuing music as a career as well.
Awww yay! When I was in eighth grade we got in a new Bari sax and I remember being the first person to unbox it and play it! Still remeber being so happy to have gotten it. And now the kids I used to help play alto have moved up and play on it! It’s wonderful the stories a single instrument can tell. 😊
@@r12flops your lower register without the register key is the same fingerings as BOTH of our octaves. The biggest change is gonna be the size of the instrument and mouthpiece, which will change the embouchure. Focus on embouchure for a solid week, once you get that down, your fingers should be adjusted to the keys, and then from there just kind of start your basics depending on where you are!
I'm a part time student-teacher at my highschool school and the Bari is my primary Instrument. I love showing my instrument to the beginning band players because they always freak out over the low notes and the size lol! I made it to the district band and I've gotten gold in my solos for my Bari solos, definitely my favorite instrument! Love the video, keep creating, teaching, and Inspiring!
Yep! I play that same Yamaha model (or at least they all have the same case, our school has a YBS-480) and I love it. Our school is poor but we finally saved up enough to get a bari so it’s brand new and a great experience to play.
Back when I first started playing bari sax at the end of of the 80s I was so small I had to sit on a very tall stool because the horn would hit on the floor if I sat on a regular chair and the mouthpiece was too high for me to reach lol. I still own a bari all these years later. I managed to find a Selmer Mark VI back in the 90s. I used to unbox and set up new horns back when I worked in the repair shop, I loved it. It was a great feeling when young kids would come in and pick up their first horn and I had set it up.
As a 5'4" Bari player with small hands, I get it. But I wouldn't give it up for the world. I march it, and yeah, it kinda sucks sometimes, but the benefits for me are so amazing and so worth it!
I remember I picked up saxophone my senior year of high school, after playing flute for 7 years. Didn't realize I was going to love playing sax so much. I played tenor for jazz band, but absolutely loved playing bari for concert/beginner-intermediate band (which I enrolled in for fun). Wish I had picked it up earlier. I ended up buying an alto sax earlier this year (6 years later) and i'm having so much fun relearning it.
Congrats on the new saxophone! 🎉 I’m hoping to get myself either a bari or a bass sax once I save up enough but I still have a ways to go lol. I hope your bari player has fun with the new horn!
I’m a junior in high school and don’t play bari, but my bf does(he’s a senior). He is obsessed with it and won’t stop talking about it. I play flute, tenor and alto saxophone, and guitar(bass and electric) and I love your content. Keep it up, good job 🫶🏼
I've been playing bari since 8th grade and im 3 years into college. So basically 10 years :) I'm such an enthusiast for this instrument I convinced other students to play and try it out before I even played any kind of saxophone when I was a brass player :)
The Bari my brother uses is so old, and the case it falling apart. But a few weeks ago, all 3 of our people who play Bari (except only one is playing it in concert band, one in jazz band, and my brother in Wind ensemble next semester) got new neckstraps! The one used in marching band was being held together with tape by the end of competition season, if I remember correctly
I would love to see you make bass calrinet content. I'm a bass clarinet player and I play for a good 10 years now. I love the bass clarinet. It's just an amazing instrument in my opinion
My school got a brand new bari last year like this and i was lucky enough to be the first person to ever play on it MAN that thing sounds great and it speaks so much easier than our other ones
I love playing bari, also a bass clarinet player. I got a new horn a couple of months ago (YBS-62||) and it plays so well. Love it, and love the videos
So, I’m an eighth grader in the concert band and beginning band (I’m a try hard), but I play two instruments for concert band and am the first chair trombone but anyway, in beginning band I play all the more common saxes, with bari being my most recent learning experience, and I think I’m in love with it
I love to see this. I've been wanting to play bari again after so long, so it's nice to see a new gen being able to do so. Plus, who doesn't love a new toy❤❤
Yayy, new instruments are always so cool, my school got like 3 new baris and a ton of new bassoons and clarinets so it’s been really fun being able to play those.
Ah I played an old Bari the year before that would break almost every week… that’s why he got new ones they were from the 80s and wouldn’t stop breaking
My son just started Bari (6th grade) and he loves watching your channel! I wish his school could get a new Bari for school-they have two halves that they Franken-sax together so he can play. One day!
I’ve played Bari for four years now, started on clarinet, then bass clarinet. When I joined jazz band in 8th grade my director told me I was playing Bari because they are “similar”…… He was wrong. I have now since played Bari in 6 honors bands, and picked up Contra on the side. Great instrument!!!
I'm a barri sax player in my HS Band and I absolutely love it. I started playing clarinet in 6th grade, then quit for a couple years. Picked it back up in 8th grade, then once I hit my freshman year I got a new band director. I was then thrown on a Tennor Saxophone for a couple years, (freshman and sopmore) I also played bass clarinet in this time frame. Then I skipped my junior year, I am a senior now, and I played Barri all marching season and now I'm dualing barri and bass clarinet for concert season. I'm really looking forward to this season!
My band teacher just got the same new bari sax as the one you just got! Same brand, case, instrument, and everything. I got the opportunity to play it this year and it is amazing and super easy to play! I am super happy you got a new one so someone can play such a fun instrument!
Bari player of 8 years here! I’ve got my own P. Mauriat Le Bravo 200 Bari, solid 10/10 horn, I love it to death (I don’t think I’d ever upgrade from it) I highly recommend that any Bari players here who use the same kind of harness that’s used in the vide or who is looking to upgrade their harness to look into the Vandoren Universal Harness - it’s expensive, but worth the investment!
You're adorable! You're adorable with a bari. Yes, I play bari. I have a 1932 Buescher True Tone low B flat. I play tenor and alto as well. I prefer tenor and bari. I've had one opportunity to play a very old Conn bass saxophone at a music store... Waaaaay cool! I love your videos! Funny, educational, and you're an adorable lady! Blessings to you and your family this Holiday Season! Thank you for being a band director.
I myself actually play trumpet during both marching and concert season! But I have a good friend who plays the Bari sax and it never fails to amaze me! I think it’s such a cool instrument! And I’ve always love all of the saxophones, especially tenor!

When I was in high school I bought my own baritone sax. Well it was a Christmas present. It was one of those cheap Chinese horns, but my BD at the time liked the sound and did think it was a pretty solid instrument for where it came from. This totally brought me back to Xmas morning when I opened up that baritone sax. Such a beautiful instrument. I’m so glad kids choose to play it. Bass line forever!
I do play the Bari sax! If you’re interested, I’m playing this Bari sax concerto for my final year of high school called Vongole! Sounds beautiful and would suggest it to any player
My school got the same model bari this year and since I’m principal I got to open the new horn and be the first to test it and this horn plays amazingly! I love getting to open new saxophones it’s like Christmas morning!
I am a bari sax! The neckstrap would KILL me. I can't even imagine playing without a harness now. If i hadn't gotten mine as a gift from a fellow saxophonist, my neck would not be in an amazing state rn ... 😂
I'm in sixth grade band and I've played the flute since 5th grade. I'm pretty good at the flute but I'm planning to switch to the Oboe. Band is a safe place and it's so fun. I look forward to being in band every year.
As someone who plays all 4 saxophones, bari is the most fun, soprano is the loudest, tenor is the best to march (i find it easier to replicate mello rips on), and alto is the easiest to learn. But always either have a vandoren reed with a vandoren mouthpeice, or a Selmer mouth peice.
As a a bari player I will tell you that you should loosen your corners when going lower you’re pinching the sound and that makes the low notes sound like that.
I love bari sax! I played tenor for two years and bari for one with my freshman year being spent on alto but Bari is by far my favorite sax to play, super fun!
Bari player here for 20 years!! Check this Bari on the tuner. I just got a new Yamaha Bari last year and it blows way flat. We can just barely get it in tune. Other wise yes it’s a great horn!
I’m in grade 6 this year and our advanced band had ZERO people willing to play alto sax. But when I was in grade 4 I wanted to play sax so bad but my parents said that it was too big and loud for an overly obnoxious child to play, but I figured out if you beg enough they let you play. So at the start of this year I learned how to play the alto sax switching from flute ( I started flute in grade 4 ). Now I am joining the saxophone program at high school next year! I’m so thankful for my music teacher being so supportive of me switching instruments, she’s just like you!
Hey I’m a Bari sac player and I go to Bradley middle school and we are actually going to Chicago in a week to perform at Midwest thank you your videos are awesome and relatable keep it up
My director just bought this exact bari for me in concert season as our marching bari was damaged, it has excellent response, a good bari player can go to great with this sax
I started out on tenor and played Bari for a while as well! I was NOT built for either of them admittedly, they weighed nearly as much as I did. Wouldnt trade it for the world
Omg www i wish I could play bari (backstory) I joined band bc I watched leo p at 7 and I was exited to go into band I asked can I play bari they said only for 7th graders u have to start with alto and I asked if I can and my band director back in 6th said we had to many altos he single handedly destroyed my dreams of bari on top of that when I got to hs I was going to play bari but guess what they had 1 bari and that went to my best friend cuz he was lucky to get bari in 7th rip my dreams p.s. I've been saving up for years to get my own bari and I'm abt to buy my own in a few months
My band teacher just got the same new bari sax as the one you just got! Same brand, case, instrument, and everything. I am not sure if it is exact though so don’t quote me on that 😂. I got the opportunity to play it this year and it is amazing and super easy to play! I am super happy you got a new one so someone can play such a fun instrument!
Im a senior in highschool been playing alto for 8 years, tenor for 2 years and bari for 4 ( tenor both off and on cause alto my main) but its been really fun but i really like this sorta content cause it brings back nostalgia for me when it goes back to middle school band and how i used to squeek and sqounk all over the place lol. But yea, keep it up, and that bari looks amazing.
Yay Bari sax can’t wait for videos with the brand new Bari
thats the same bari i play
ps im 12 and 5,11
That’s cool I play Bari too but I got mine with a custom print and color so it’s unique but I wish I didn’t because the tone is different and the one I used to use was this one I believe and it has better tone
Also don’t reveal your age on the internet there’s a lot of creepy people but I’m 6’4 which is why I got placed on Bari sax in 6th grade

That’s nuts… if I went from the trumpet to the tuba that’s still not as drastic as flute to bari!! Was it hard to do that big of a switch

As a bari sax player, I would LOVE to see a funny video about bari saxes.
I just made my schools top band on bari sax and made 2nd best in my suburban district, this video brought me soothing feelings.
I started out on tenor and played Bari for a while as well! I was NOT built for either of them admittedly, they weighed nearly as much as I did. Wouldnt trade it for the world
i love ur vids so much!!

Using a Yamaha low A bari at my college! Plays like a dream
I am a trombone! Just got it cleaned and returned to me today. The Bari Sax sounds cool, I sit by them in class.
