George, I just want to say thanks for putting out superb free content like this. This year at 40 years old, I dropped from a 14 handicap to a 3.3! Yes, I played more golf... but also found your channel helped me establish new goals. Prior to this year, I'd never broken 80. A few weeks ago, I shot 65 (-5) and won my first tournament.
That's awesome!! I thought I was having a good year... 12 to 6.4 and almost (should have) broke par for the first time two weeks ago. Trying to work out what is an stretched achievable new goal. Thanks for making it 3.3!! I'd be shooting under every now and again at that level which I assume you are. I'm 43 and finally got back to and surpassed my 19 year old self finally and then some. Shot four new best ever rounds this year (+2 my current best). Can't wait to make my first time under par like yours... I'm almost as excited as seeing Wes back at it!
Right on!! Nothing better than seeing how the Bryan Bros do it around the greens. Best channel on UTube gets better and better, thank you Bros, blessings to the whole Bryan clan from Richard in Cosby, east Tennessee. POSITIVE VIBRATIONS!!
Thank you. Can’t wait to watch this. Always impressed with wedgley, George and kilometers around the green pitching and chipping. Let the healing / learning begin! 😂 I’d be curious about technique and feels around the putting stroke and rocking the shoulders and hands and face closure / release and toe hang. Sorry. I want it all 😂
Wedgley: "That's not a shot I'll ever use on the golf course per se" Also Wedgley first tournament back behind a tree with no shot: Here comes the ol' hook wedge!
I’m pretty big on the putting tornado drill from Mary Chandler. Thas a grind to complete, but the side effect of trying it: sinking a whole lot of putts. ❤️
Wesley, your chipping action is unlike any other pro. I've been practicing with a much longer backswing on my chipping and its amazing how much better the strike and the amount of spin i generate doing it. Where did you learn this technique and is a conscious thing/change you made? Always rooting for you, You have definitely got another PGA tour win in you.
Favorite Wesley tip was to keep weight forward with wedges. No need for weight transfer on short wedges. Keep the sternum even or in front of the ball.
The ultimate short game video for yippers like me to study over and over again...inside look at a genius at work, awesome stuff-boys...Keep it coming, with slow mo, looping, different angles, etc ...TY!
From the top of his backswing, his head is never moving down, which is what a lot of bad wedge players do around the green, causing the to hit too far behind the ball, or they might even skull it if they move up at the last moment after they moved down too much.
Love his putter. I have one similar to it. Nothing fancy. But. It does the job. Wesley with his chip shots. He, fineses the ball so well. He has a great swing. Also, when you can. Can you do a video on how to hit irons and how the pros get their divots after striking the ball. I have watched many videos. But, I believe you two can teach us better then anyone. Thanks for the excellent videos. You both are amazing golfers. You should join the PGA with Wesley..
Hey George, I've noticed Wedgeley tends to set up a lot of his clubs on the heel. I understand why he does this for driver, but what's the reason for this?
Helps to hit a consistent fade with the driver, slight pull into the ball and then the ball ends up in the center as opposed to a toe strike. Some people set the ball up to the toe for draws also.
I am a bad 18 handicap but use that slow long, high chip shot all the time with my 60 degree. For some reason it feels comfortable to me. There is something about the super slow takeaway and the slow rhythmic transition and downswing which makes it very hard to move my weight back. I probably maintain a 60/40 weight forward throughout the shot. I use it at least once every round and it is my most reliable shot but, oddly, I find it harder to perform if I don’t actually need to execute such a shot.
George or Wesley, I actually am much more effective hitting a 58 degree with control than I am hitting a bump and run. Any tips on controlling a gap wedge/p wedge/9 iron to control tempo?
I'm not the Gerge or Wesley but I used to have the same problem what worked for me is the toe down weight way forward use more like a putting stroke take your hands and arms out of the shot. For me it eliminated the big misses
It’s interesting your wedge shots. Mine are very similar with a very loose kind of floppy feel. My golf instructor is totally against me playing floppy wrists. But I’ll be honest I just have such a better feel for pitching when I do and it’s just way more natural and just feels amazing when I do it. But man if I thin it remotely, that ball is long gone.
I'm going to say this is definitely tour player technique. For those that don't have the time to practice much I think there are better techniques. Wesley almost seems to decelerate which takes incredible hand eye
I am currently 18 and taking a GAP year between college and high school to focus on golf so I can play southern D1 golf. I am currently a +2.5 I am an aspiring to be on the PGA Tour after college. Is there anyway you could describe an average week or day? Such as how much time you spend each day on golf and how much time you spend on each aspect of the game in categories such as ( putting, chipping, distance wedges, irons, woods, playing holes, etc.) thank you so much for your videos I try to always learn as much as possible. Good luck in your tournaments coming up.
I literally approach the short game like Wesley, practice as many different shots. Obviously not as good, but pretty good. At 10:42 damn I never thought of that one, hitting the pitching area early morning ahahah! Thanks guys
Just wanted to say thank you on that toe down tip, transformed my short chipping, pitching shot! Been practicing it non stop and last Sunday I chipped 2 in, one for birdie and the second was a par save! Almost had a few more but they were just off line to fall. #411adaptivegolf #oneleggedgolfer
I personally also try out and train silly chippies around the training greens, that i would never use. The same reason, just to get more overall feel, see how the ball reacts etc 🔥🤓
Great video, how long does he practice per drill, how many hours a day does he practice and how many days a week he work on short game ? Over 90% or more only practice short game before we tee off and expect to play like a Pro when we are playing. Like Tiger said you have to put in the work to get the results. It is also the quality of time you put in, instead hit 1,000 of golf balls just to hitting them. Thanks
George, Wesley said he practiced really tricky shots to develop feel in his hands. What other training did he do to develop his coordination? Did he practice chipping with a left hand club? How much ball juggling did he do on a SW and how much do you think the trick shots you both did helped with the short game skill development?
For everyone asking about Wesley's wedges, here are his clubs. Driver: Callaway Epic Speed Triple Diamond LS (10.5 degrees set to 9.5) (10g weight in front, 6g weight in the back) Shaft: Aldila Tour Green 75 TX (45 1/8 inches, tipped 1 inch, D4) 3-wood: Callaway Mavrik Sub Zero (15 degrees @14.7) (10g weight in front, 9g weight in the back) Shaft: Aldila Synergy Green 75 TX (42 inches, tipped 1 inch, D4) Hybrid: Callaway Apex (20 degrees @18.9) Shaft: Graphite Design Tour AD DI 95 X Hybrid Irons: Callaway Apex Pro 2Dot (4-PW) Shafts: True Temper Dynamic Gold Tour Issue X100 Wedges: Callaway Jaws MD5 Raw (50-10S, 54-10S bent to 53, 58-08C) Shafts: True Temper Dynamic Gold Tour Issue S400 Putter: Odyssey Metal X Milled #2
My biggest problem is hitting "full" swing wedges. The ball always rides up the face and I lose distance and can't keep it low. I hit a 75-80% wedge as far as my full swing.
what has helped me with this is putting the ball in the center of my stance or even a bit back of center and leaning the shaft forward at address. helped get a more piercing ball flight rather than the high floaty one
Great video! I know sponsorships probably won’t allow for this - but it would be very cool to see “Wedgley” give his feedback on the Costco Kirkland wedges in a video, have seen some other videos with very positive feedback but it would be great to hear it from one of the best players in the world.
This is gold!!! Epic insight to the short game at the highest level. I would love to hear how you Wesley recommends dialing in distance control with wedges from 30-100 yards. Setup, Club selection, feels.... this would be awesome from one of the best in the game!!
Hey Wesley, love your swing. Did you always have your stance so narrow with all your clubs? Instructors now days are saying to stand wider but I have a problem doing that. When I stand wider I have a hard time going to my left side on the downswing. Do you have the same problem and that's why you stand so narrow?
Jerge... Wedgley, I believe it must be noted that to get the amount of spin you're getting as in this video, it's gotta be at least a little uphill right? Also, what would you say is needed to execute a shot like this? More bounce or less bounce? I find that when I attempt a shot like this, a tight lie with less bounce is better. I could be very very wrong though. Thoughts?
Definitely working on the draw chip shot. Because I am definitely dumb enough to play it on the course😂 how cool would it be if Wesley is in the next Ryder cup with jittery Gerge on the bag?!
I have recently found your videos and I think that you have some good information. I liked the information that you were giving on the short wedge shots in the early part of the video. I wanted to like the information that you gave on the 120 yard wedges, but you really didn't say anything. I just watched you hit shots. I have been using my 75 yard wedge for 70 to 80 yard shorts. But because of what I have recently seen on RUclips, including this channel, I have been trying to use my 100 yard full shot wedge to softly hit an 80 yard shot. I think that this will give me a little more control because I am not swinging full with the club. Is this a valid method, is there something that I have to be more aware of when using this method? I'm finding it inconsistent because a little soft is hard to measure in my head at the speed a club travels. On another note, I have practiced a lot and I have gotten better at short wedges. But, I still have issues with judging how much spin I am imparting and how much rollout to expect. This tends to leave shots short. Is it strictly a feel issue that just requires a lot of practice? Thanks.
One ?: With a line or crosshair on the ball do you tilt the axis of the ball a bit to have it look straight if u stand with your eyeline a bit inside the ball? Or do Place it straight to the line u want to put and first ajust your eyeline to Ball and putter. Thx

From a very very amateur golfer view point - I would not recommend taking that big of a back swing on chip shots because we will start decelerating and that brings in a lot of inconsistencies like fatting or blading.
