I appreciate the history lesson of sought after autos in the hobby. I've just been buying autos at random recently and have a hard time deciding which ones are best. I feel like SPA is overrated and same with the young guns. Talked to some hobby shop owners and they say the younger generation is after low #'d cards, whereas the old farts prefer plan jane vanilla young guns and SPA. I collect other sports too, and I would consider a Young Guns as a base card with no value. I would consider their exclusives or clear cuts as their 'Silver Prizms'. I also think Premier RPAs are worth way more than SPA, they are lower #'d and have a patch. I think Platinum will be the set of the future with the acetate and #'d rookie cards.
I totally agree. Compared to NBA, NFL and MLB the hockey market is so small a card printed to /999 shouldn’t hold that kind of value for such a long time. The main reason might be new collectors get told continuously that SPA is easy accessible and will hold value. Plus lots of collectors have multiple cards of the same player and might jack up prices on auctions to protect their ‘investment’.
And while The Cup is insanely overpriced by wealthy collectors/investors the Premier and Ultimate RPA’s seem to have the correct (not inflated) price for a hockey card. Premier and Ultimate cards are low numbered but totally purchasable compared to the higher numbered SPA cards.

Great Video!!! although I am not a hockey collector unlnike Panini I ilke the fact that these are simple boxes. For the price you don't get a product littered with unecessary parallels! from what I've read the base set has 2(Gold/Platinum) so opening this you have a great chance of find good stuff without getting 12 different parallels...Great Job Uppder Deck!!!
Always liked OPC Platinum. Just love the colors. But less hits for more money make it less desirable now.
Young Guns are the first true rookies of the year. Future Watch are the first autos of the year. The Cup are just the most expensive
I’d probably say the best RPA’s out there in the hobby are the Ice Premiere Patches /10…if your lucky enough to own one due to the fact that they are rare and people aren’t exactly giving them out…

You are way too high on FWA. They aren't that rare for the price you pay to own one.

Yep. my Matthews FWA goes for far more money than my Matthews Premier RPA its crazy.

Honestly Ultimate rookie autos are usually my favorite rookie autos, they look nice and clean usually compared to some of the SPAs

Hey Zeeree, I'm curious what do you think is a fair price for a box of 2015 2016 series 2 hobby box is worth? What would you pay?
So if you were to sell everything you made a whopping minus $250ish. And that is the reason I am reluctant to dive back into the hobby. I used to use hits to buy more so I could finish a base set. You can’t even complete a base set with a single box anymore. UD, Topps and Panini have pretty much destroyed the hobby.
Key has been great lately. If he keeps it up for a few more seasons, that's a great pull.

FWA are way overrated and not rare in the least with 999 of them. I would rather have The Cup, Clear Cut, OPC Platinum.

@Adam Transki ePacks suck, breakers are a small part in the hobby. Most real collectors hate breakers. Because you never get your money back. You can still get boxes today. Not sold out. People's needs will never be filled. Collectors always want more.
@Adam Transki What you said is so stupid. I'm talking about a case hit. 1 per case. You might not even get a Makar. It could be a different player out of the set. It's so rare. These new collectors that want to grade everything are too stupid to realize the rarity of this card.
@Adam Transki I know the rarity of the card doesn't always make the card more valuable. That's my point. These new collectors don't know what they are doing. Also I'm talking about his rookie cast for greatness. Which makes it more valuable.
