After seeing so many soap making videos where they're tip-toeing throughout the entire process, it's so damn refreshing to see someone RELAX, assemble the ingredients and just make some frappin' soap, dammit.
IKR
Isn't it!
Yeah, Watching videos where it takes the person an hour to make a video it got me nervous to do it then when I actually did it, the actual process is like 15 minutes tops lol.
Lmao! “I got soap, I’ll wash my hands” 😂😂 I love your videos man!
Thanks!
I love that you say you don't have to worry about temps and be all fussy with making soap. And I love that you don't wear gloves and glasses and stuff. Lol. I don't wear any protective stuff or worry about temps when making my soap. I too am mostly about function over fussy. I don't even know how to do a swirl. Lol. Though I do love to watch Katie do it on royalty soaps. I just make very basic soaps. Lol
"their was an old guy Joe, he had a bit of a smell... I don't put that in my barber shop though" hahaha that cracked me up man, love your style Uncle Jon don't ever change haha
He’s like, “whatever man!” I love it cause overthinking this stuff held me back. Thank you so much my friend for giving us the push we so need!

Wow!!! Thanks for posting. I was so scared to try soap making because everyone was talking about being precise and accurate. So thanks not so scared. And I just moved to Jersey from Queens, NY. And I’m loving it.

IV never made soap but been thinking about trying and came across your channel so I'm going to give it a try see what I can do
So true, about how picky people think they have to be. If I hadn't already known how to make soap, how to videos would have discouraged me from learning 🙂
Yep! I find it very frustrating to watch people make things more complicated than they need to be.
Thank you! Love the simplicity! And the shorter beard.
Thanks!
Love the beard cut!!!
Thanks!
You make the best videos.. thanks for all you teach us
Thanks!
Thank you for sharing the recipe . I always enjoy watching your soap making videos all the way from Okinawa Japan 😃👍
Thanks!
Yay!
Your beard looks fantastic!!!
What you said was important, and that was keep the ordeal simple
Just rewatched your making simple soap recipe. This recipe is what made you my favorite soaper to watch; a lot of others frustrate me to no end with soap making rules. That brought me to this...I don't remember anyone ever saying this, but surely I'm not the only one that can tell by smell when soap has reached the point in mixing that it will set up. The trace test is what I always go by, but at about that time the smell of the soap changes subtly. I don't know how to explain it, but I think that is the point of suponification. I know. I over think. But it was interesting to me.
I've smelled it too! But for me, it's more of an overall feeling. I can feel slight changes through my hand and the mixer ( most days).
HI uncle Jon i started making soaps several months ago, im a beginner, i like how you explain it ,your not complicated, you make it so easy, i like the melt and pour, takes about 4 hours, after watching a few of your tutorials i realized i can make cold process soap, i kept reading it took 4 weeks, if i wanted to sell it i couldn't thank you great information
This video is a blessing. Currently looking into making homemade lye and then using said lye to make soap. A project my sister and I are looking into. Been using lye soap myself this last month, and a lot of my skin issues are healing. After years of not healing.
Thanks for the video, Uncle Jon!
Wow this was such a simple video, I'm new to soaping just 3 weeks in I've been making only melt and pour the easiest process but I want to move onto cold process. I've been so nervous with all the measuring and temperatures it's all so confusing but your video made me feel a better. Thank you
I like the fact that you don't do all the frills, just functional soap. Thanks
hello Uncle Jon. woke up this morning thinking i wanna learn to make my own soap. you know,i m gettin bored with this confinement thing... i started utube and find almost right away your videos. call me shocker but i have watch your 50 videos all day long, and i m now feeling pretty confident to start doing it myself. you explain things so well. i have written down 6 full pages of advices from you.
YOU ARE THE BOSS!! i susbcribed to your channel, i m on to it! thanks for being there. also you have a sick beard!! love it. that is actually what made me click on your videos at the first place

When I started saying, I was going nuts but trying to get the temps within range. I ended talking to a couple of so soap makers. They taught to soap at room temperature. It was a game changer. Now my soaps look and perform way better. Got my confidence up in the craft as well. Even made two batches of Pine Tar.👍🏻
I like you. You make me feel I can. But 10 months later. 2 batches hardened. After outta mold. I wondered about wax. Ty uncle Jon
"Still touchin' my face, as you can see" "Joe...he had kind of a weird smell...I don't put that in my Barbershop" 😂😂
I honestly didn't expect words like mantra and ta-daa coming from that southern mouth(although you did explain, you grew up in jersey) lol. really refreshing to hear people like you.
~keep it up.coming straight at you from karachi, pakistan. Also never stop starting ur videos with yuuuppp.
Love your videos! Thank you for showing the simplicity of how soap making can be .. Oh .. And trim that hair!! lol .. Please keep the videos coming :)
🤣
Yeah!!! I ca. Use palm oil in solid state. Ty
thank you great info, Is hemp oil a good oil? and what would be good to mix with it
Ok, now you need to make a video that goes into detail sodium lactate. I have never heard of it and I have a recipe (of my own) that comes out REALLY soft in the beginning. It has a lot of goodies like pureed cucumber, aloe leaf, rice milk (home-made), home grown mulberry silk (dissolved in the lye water before pouring) and green clay. I know, it's not simple but OH MA GAH the lather is just divine and leave my hands feeling nice.
I can do an info vid about sodium lactate for sure! Although, your soap may just always be soft. The pureed stuff tends to do that to soap. Making it harder may not work.. or could kill that lather. But I'll definitely work on the sodium lactate video😁
You make soap making, Just easier for me.
John, I really don’t comment much, except to yell at flat earthers - anyway - I appreciate that you stick to being flexible. I’ve been making soap for my daughters’ store for the last 6 months. I’ve been through good and bad batches, and trying to zero in on my ideal recipie. Anyway - thanks for being honest. Come back to NJ one day, Joe...
Hello, do you have any suggestions on fragrances gentle enough to add to a feminine soap. I want to use some fragrance body oil but I’m not sure if I should; so I’m thinking I’ll just essential oils because I do want it to be hypoallergenic but still smell nice.
Have you written a book? I would surely purchase. You are so real with this craft and I love it.
I haven't. Need a ghost writer...lol. I love telling stories and teaching but I hate writing 🤣
@@unclejonssoap just a pity. Thanks for sharing your knowledge. I am a soaper in Jamaica and I have learnt much from you. I also do beard products as well as candles.
Just come across your channel and I wish I found it earlier. I’ve been so scared lol to make cold compress because of the lye and other soap makers really put me off. You are to the point and no bs. Love it. Gonna have to binge watch your videos now lol. Is there no way of making soap without lye? I’m in the uk and just learning. I did read you can’t but still don’t wanna believe it 😂🤣😂. Thanks John.
Go for it! You can do it. And, you have to have lye of some sort to make soap. And don't believe the stuff you read about baking soda...lol
Caddyshack! Haven't seen that in years :)
Yes! 🤣 Guess I need to watch that again soon..lol
My father was a barber and there is this smell that he used to use after he would cut and put on the neck man it smelled so good and I would love to make a soap that smells like that
"I'm still touching my face"
"Eh, I got soap, I'll wash my hands" 🤣😂👍
I enjoy listening to your videos. Question - This Lye calculator, where can I find that to figure my mix? The other ingredients, where can I go to find the out?
And fact you use tap water?? I really relaxed
Flexibility! #Don’tTemptMe -Uncle Jon 2020
🤣
At least I know I've reached one person.. lmao
Hi, I’m very new here and am very excited to start making soap! Can I use my regular immersion blender that I use for daily cooking or is it better to have separate supplies just in case? Thanks!
yes where did you get your supplies and how do you cut it
Hey I try this recipe can u tell me if I just wanna use one mold that holds 40 oz the recepie I have to use please
Thanks for your videos! Just found your channel today. I'm wondering if your soap goes through gel phase without being covered. I saw you slide your mold under your microwave in other videos, but I don't think you covered it. I've been making hot process soap for several years and would like to make more CP, but have had a few fails regarding insulating and gel phase, etc with some partial gels.
It all depends on how warm it is in the shop. Sometimes I get a full gel and sometimes not. I don't worry about it most days 😁
I had bought some of your mint soap while visiting your shop. After using it, and liking it a lot, we have gotten down to the center and it is very soft. Is this normal? It still cleans but we worry that it will 'melt' and go away. I do not know if this is cold processed or not. Theresa & Garry
Hey! I wanna try this recipe but which soy wax to i use for it?
are those accurate measurements above as I'm going to make my first ever soap and will use your recipe, thanks!
They're accurate for what I did.. yep!
Thank you. Please make rise soap, using olive oil, would live to order
Sorry.. can't change all the recipes..lol. The price would go up a lot as well. Why don't you like canola? There's really no chemical difference in soap.
Hi Jon, I’m new to soap making and loving it. One question about this recipe please. Can I use Canola “or” Grapeseed Oil? The Grapeseed is in the recipe, but you used only Canola. Thanks, and I’m really enjoying your videos. You teach concisely and well. I appreciate this.👍
You can use either but you would need to run it through a lye calculator to make sure the lye proportions are correct.
Where do you by all supplies
Thank you very much for the video! What are the inside dimensions of the mold used here?
3.25" wide x 2.5" high x 21" long. All interior dimensions. That gives me exactly 24 bars at 7/8" thick. It also leaves a little room at the top so it doesn't overflow the mold.
I thank you very much Unc Jon's. I made my 1st out 3 or maybe 10 batches of soap correctly. lol So, glad that I stopped passing by your channel & tunned in. Thanks for the encouragement to take fear out of CP soap making. I didn't worry about pouring my lye & oil times (as you indicated) & I got a creamy product. Thanks, You Rock.
Hi, I’m new to making soap (haven’t done one yet 🙄, but I will ) and all the videos I watched made it look soooo complicated ,I’m so happy I found yours 😀. I have only one question, so... I don’t have to use distilled water for the lye??
Thank you!
It really depends on the quality of your water. If you have water that you wouldn't be afraid to drink, then it's perfectly fine for soap making.
@@unclejonssoap how bout mineral water as daily drinking?
What if you are allergic to soy, is there anything you can substitute for the flakes? I LOVE your video! I am a beginner and REALLY want to make soap and your video has been the best i have seen!!
The best thing to do is learn the lye calculator and make a recipe with just coconut oil and either olive oil or canola oil first. That way you can get used to the process.
👍
Beard looks good Jon
I like you kiss formula for making soap. Great video. To this recipe if I wanted to add lemongrass oil . How much would LG would I add without spoiling the recipe?
If it's distilled lemongrass oil then I think it's about 1 fluid ounce per pound of base oils.
I see many soap videos where they cover the soap with cardboard and towels to keep it warm while it hardens. I didn't see you do that in this video and wanted to know if that is necessary to do? Just starting to make soap for the first time and some of the info in confusing. Thanks in advance for your advice!
Nope. You don't have to do that. Some people like to force the soap to gel and insulating can help with that. But, it can also overheat the soap sand make a new sometimes..lol.
