3rd Period highlights of the Oilers dramatic come-from-behind victory over the Red Wings in Game 6 of their 2006 playoff series. Ales Hemsky's one-timer with 1:06 left in regulation gave the Oilers their first series win in eight years, and sent the entire city of Edmonton into hysterics. Спорт
As an Oilers fan, I'll never forget the 2006 playoffs.
I'm a Wing's fan and it's one of my most favorite series. The whole thing was must-see TV.
GEMINII FILMS I have to agree. Although it didn't go your way I think it was exciting both ways.
***** maybe because you didn't do the playoffs since then? your team is such a joke, you got mcdavid and like the others, just a waste of talent, get good.
Grigori Rasputin playoffs 2017 baby
2 years after my comment and 11 years after this video HOLY SHIT that's pathetic.
I'll come back every couple of months to watch, just to give me a lift.
"Hemsky, he scoooooores"
Hahahaaa...
I love how @ 3:33 the commentator says "...and the wind has been knocked out of the building!". 10 seconds later You hear the Loyalers chanting "LETS GO OILERS!"
Oil Country is AWESOME!!!
God, those were the good old days.
Right
Congrats on a great career Ales Hemsky! This is the game that I think about the most when you're mentioned. You'll always be missed in Oil country.
Hemsky was one the the greatest pure talents ever to lace up skates imo. To bad he was stuck in Etown in that era.
He was soft and had a ten cent brain. He was what he was. Sometimes gratifying. Sometimes you wanted to strangle the fuck out of him.
2006, it looks like this is filmed in the 90s. So long SD!
hey hey hey, what?
Steve Yzerman's last game, so sad.
Fuck him.
@@gretzkysyotes lololol
im a canucks fan, but i have to say, best cup run ever, oiler fans that year were so freakin loud and i absolutely loved it
Good luck tomorrow buddy!
I got chills down my spine watching this. I miss this playoff run, such a testament to the Oilers' character.
GO OILERS GO
Well its that time again! Can we all feel it!
@@heavenfire9909 It's a great time to be an Oilers fan!
Yzerman, Shanahan, Draper, Zetterberg, Datsyuk, Williams, Lang, Holmstrom, Franzen, Lidstrom, Chelios, Schnieder, Kronwall, ......man, how the hell did the Oilers beat this team in the 1st round???
One Word: Heart!
Persadish a better word: pronger.
Guys, please, let's keep it clean & focused.
First, Pronger played a LARGE part in that magical '06 run. But you've gotta tip your hat to Roloson, Pisani, Smyth, Stoll, Hemsky, Spacek (I can go on & on)... who all played incredible, unselfish, intense hockey, not only through Rd 1, but right to Game 7 of the Final.
Shoulda, Woulda, Coulda... No excuses.
Everyone knows though if Roloson didn't go down with the injury in Game 1, the Oilers would've hoisted their 6th Cup!
🍻 Here's hoping McDavid & Co. can restore some of that optimism in the "City of Champions"!
Kosta454 Roloson wasn't stellar he just got the job done before he was injured , and tbh Peca and Pronger carried the team pretty much, pisani got some garbage goals that even george laraque could have tallied. Pisani had only one good year in the NHL. Oilers have been horrible and a bottom-leaguer team for about 10 years, since pronger & peca left! Pronger would have easily won the conn smyth if spacek or bergeron didn't suck so much against the canes, oilers blow.
+Grigori Rasputin yes he did. I'm his illegitimate child
This had to be the best game I ever watched. I'll never forget it.
I totally agree. I am a huge Habs fan and I could not help but be fiercely proud of the Oil during and after this game. Such unbelievable effort from the Oilers, such INCREDIBLE intensity and noise from the fans. I watched it on my slingbox from Europe until 5 in the morning or so. When Franzen scored, I almost died. When Hemsky made it 4-3, I jumped in the air and was shouting at the top of my lungs. So great to have the homer CBC announcers too.
I was sitting to the left of Roli in the 3rd, front row seat, that game! I drove in from Grande Prairie and missed the first period. I'm a Detroit fan but I really respect the Oilers and that was an impressive game, and when I got there it was 2-0 and I thought we had it, especially after Edmonton only got 2 shots in the second period. I'm glad I saw Yzerman's last game...and that was an impressive win by the Oilers. Their whole postseason was extremely impressive.
Amazing game! What a comeback, what a playoff series, and what a run for the Oilers that year!
have always said most exciting game ive ever watched. avs fan.... i finally just re-watched these highlights. 14 years later. still best game.
Will never forget this game
Remember this like it was yesterday. What a run that year.
Nice to see a respectable Wings fan for once.
was there for all the 06 run and this was the loudest of them all--i could watch this over and over.....
still to this day i get shivers watching this and i still can't believe roloson got injured oilers would of won!!!!!! if he didnt ),:
Thank you for adding this
It's 2023. This is still bone chilling!
Sweet memories!! Can't wait till next year. The city of Edmonton goes crazy when the Oilers are in the playoffs!!!!
Holy crap this comment is ancient
Man.. this brings back that entire playoff run. What great fun
I’ve never been so pumped for hockey in my life
I could watch this over and over. Hell, I DO watch this over and over. Hopefully there will be newer, bigger and better highlight films in our future. GO OIL!
listen to that crowd and that wonderful horn...nothing like a playoff goal in Edmonton
I believe to this day ty conklin lost us the cup with that shit goal when roloson got injured
No it was Bergeron for running the guy right into our best player, Rolls was all world
To this day both sabres fans and oiler fans are sour about Carolina. For good reasons. Should have been sabres vs oilers in the final. We had an absurd amount of bizarre injuries before game 7 and you guys lost your goalie in the finals. Carolina got so lucky. One of the worst teams to ever lift a cup in my lifetime. Was a very bizarre yet crazy year in hockey post lockout.
@Paul Revere by that logic Detroit should have won the cup in 06
I still get chills watching the 2006 playoffs, too! I'm a season ticket holder and I had Row 1 behind the net seats for the whole playoff run. It was nuts! I had the best seats in da house and boy did we rock the house!! You can see me jumping up and down behind the net after every goal. Seems like yesterday. Go Oilers!!
"and the wind has been knocked out of this building"
two seconds later
"LETS GO OILERS"
this brings me almost to tears everytime i watch it, i remember watching this game at the bar ...best game ever
Holy cow this comment is old
Out of all the moments in this run, this by far is most sweetest moment, even bigger then eliminating the sharks, ducks, and Pisanis OT winner, and even getting to game 7. There was so much significance behind winning a round after so long.
man i will never forget that day...i was at a soccer game and was so upset i was gunna miss it and we were gettin updates from the side of the field...when i heard it was 2-0 i was so crushed end the game we got in the truck turned on the radio and it was 2-1 b4 we were out the town we played in it was 2-2 then 3-2 on the road it was made 3-3 but was under review we sped home as fast as we could got home turned on the tv as it was announced a goal. then that hemmer again i was goin insane!!!!!!!
Watching in 2016....a decade later with no playoffs for our team. It's time to make some more epic playoff memories. Good things are coming soon oilers fans, I promise
Aaron P its sad because it wont be the same. i don't know.
It's time
We do pretty good when we don't run into Dallas. I guess they took that game 7 loss in '97 quite seriously.
9 years later still waiting
I'm a Wings fan living in Edmonton, but first and foremost, I'm a hockey fan. I was at this game and what a hell of a game, the 3rd goal was a good call, the Wings should have scored but were just simply outplayed by a better team. I was glad though I got to see Steve Yzerman's last game as a Wing. I did cheer for the Oil after this and what a ride they gave the City. I hope they can do this again but only if the Wings get ousted.
To think I was there. Sad my Wings lost but because of this, I got to go to Game 6 of the Stanley Cup Finals.
Best crowd EVER. Best celebration for hockey by an entire city that I have ever witnessed not only in my lifetime, but in the entire history of the NHL. Never has a city been so devoted to hockey and gotten so involved with their team as Edmonton did in 2006... They more than deserved the stanley cup. I am from Windsor Ontario, and therefore i speak with an Unbiased arguement for the city of Edmonton. Good luck to their team, their whole city deserves a win - they want it more.
I`m a 10 year season ticket holder with the Mighty Oilers and I had Row 1 behind the net seats for this whole playoff run!! It was an incredible run! Can`t wait till the new season to start. OILERS IN 2009!!
As a Red Wings fan myself , I remember that horrific playoff series like it was yesterday unfortunately😊.. Dominik Hasek was just one year too late on arriving back to Detroit or else we would have won in 6 games!.. the Dominator would not have given up nearly half of those goals at legacy gave up that year looking shaky the whole playoff run.. All of us Detroit fans knew it despite him having a pretty solid regular season by we new Legace wasn't the guy for the playoffs, and we were more hopeful then we were confident in him.. But I look at it like this, if you're not worth beating what is there to look forward to??!.. 😂🤷🏽♂️ aahh miss the good ole days
back in '06 I started following the Oilers every game throughout the playoffs following this series...I REALLY wish I has seen this game
best game i ever been to in my life. words cant explain the feelinsg i have for this game lol
On the winning goal Legace gives the biggest goalie slump of all time. You can see the life leave him.
One of the greatest games ever!
I watched this video only for the memories in 06, damn I miss those days
Thank You Jumba202 u took the words right out of my mouth! U Diss The Wings you diss me!
WHAT A GAME! Sheer excitement. And what an audience! I'm not an Oilers fan, but I'd like to think they have one of the best crowds in the league.
Edmonton fans are one of the most loyal fans ever in an sport
2022 …this gives me goose bumps …hope mcdavid and his team go to the Stanley cup finals and win
Brings back some great memories ... I was in the first row of the gallery for this game and almost fell over the edge after Hemsky scored the GWG. I love the reaction of the guy in the pressbox at 6:37 after they check the video replay and count the goal. He's like "HOLY CRAP IT'S LOUD"!!! Playoff hockey in Edmonton is the best.
Man this comment is old
I've been watching for years. Pronger saved so many goals. they might not have "ridden" him to the finals, but he was one of the main reasons.
I may never watch a better game live than this.
this is gotta be the best game ive seen in my life
nothing like a playoff goal in Edmonton, baby. crowd going nuts, horn going off over and over, and the spotlight. BEAUTY.
Go Oilers Go.
I remember watching this game. what a moment
when team chemistry outweighs individual talent.
still got my Ryan Smyth jersey hanging up proudly.
Still gives me goosebumps
Ho man that cheer is spine tingling...and I live here
I was so drunk that game...oh boy
And the biggest migraine I ever had after that goal .
I miss Pisani
This game gave me a new life line, couldn't believe it for the world
Pisani was an absolute beast that entire playoff run
One of the biggest playoff upsets ever folks; great comeback effort in the 3rd by the Oilers to win it. Even though my team the Leafs didn't make the '06 playoffs, I was great hockey to watch. Indeed:-)
man i loved those days
amazing i love it
what a game, never forget it
UPSET in Oil Country!!
WOW, what a great 3rd period that was; looked like the Wings would force Game 7, but what a great comeback by the Oilers to win the game & the series. One of BIGGEST upsets in NHL playoff history!
This will be a classic in 25 years from now
I'm a Canucks fan, but I've definitely watched this about a dozen times
I agree. When Hemsky made that last goal I was watching on TV. RUclips video can't compare. When the crowd was cheering you could hear the announcers trying to talk but you can't even hear them through all the noise.
wow this gives me shivers
No Matter who you are a fan of, you have to admit this was Quite A Historic Period of Hockey.
this was unbelievable
i love that song!
After hemskys second and go ahead goal, that shot of them at center ice has to be one of the best in Oilers history.
Wow.
even though i'm a flames fan i'm glad the oilers made it to the finals....i will always respect the oilers more than the canucks....
I will never forget this game until the day I die...
7:27 Stoll Hemsky Samonsov line was like : I got yo Russian 5 right here ....Bang series over
What a beauty
That series was like a kick in the balls with a steel toed boot. I didn't recover until last year.
Great memory being at that game with my mom!
7:40 The guy behind me pick my chucky arse up onto his shoulders to celly 😂
Great memories. :-D
wow that was awesome
I still remember that image at 7:57 all these years later… Epic
As an Oilers fan...I loved this. Wings didn't do Manny Legace right after this loss though.
That was the best upset ever in the NHL! The 8th seed Oilers beat up the president trophy Red Wings in 6. The Oilers that year went to the Finals before losing to Carolina in 7!
Kudos to the Oilers. They adapted their style of play in that series and choked off the Wings offense. It sucked for me, but I know I get no sympathy from other NHL fans, being a Wings fan and all.
Rooted for the Oilers the whole way after that, they were fun to watch. That was a weird year, coming out of the lockout. And the 5-8 seeds all advanced. Don't see that too often.
RUclips algorithm is really interesting thing. Who else got that video as recommended in 2021 ?!?!
I remember the morning of this game, my buddy asked what I thought the score would be...I guessed 4 - 3 Edmonton... After 2 periods Edm was down 2 - 0 and I'm like...no effing way we score 4 in the 3rd against Detroit... Well...we did. Sweet. Then I went into financial ruin cuz I thought I could predict the futre. Many failed stocks and hundreds of losing lottery tickets later, I'm ruined. Moral of the story: Just cuz you were right once...doesnt mean you'll be right ever again...ever.
Next to Pasani's OT winner in game 5 of the finals, this game is my fav memory of the Oil's cup run. The whole city went banana's after this game. Looking forward to their young talent leading them to the post-season next yr. GO OIL!
This was our year
Well first off, you have to hand it to the Oilers. They had a phenomenal run, led by Chris Pronger playing some of the best hockey of his great career. They routinely had timely scoring from throughout the lineup, and goaltending that almost always got the job done. I still think it's a shame that Roloson got injured; I was going for them in the SCF. Also, the Wings just matched up poorly against that Oilers squad. It was one of those classic teams that just outgritted the Wings in an early playoff round.
From the Wings' perspective, I can't point to just one thing, but I will say that I think they needed to fully turn over leadership from guys like Yzerman and Shanahan to Datsyuk and Zetterberg, and couldn't find success until they did. I remember getting the weird feeling like Datsyuk and Zetterberg may have still been deferring to the future HHOF guys (not that Datsyuk and even Zetterberg may not be, as well, but they weren't slam dunks like Yzerman and Shanahan) and not fully stepping into their own yet. I also remember Datsyuk just being kind of snakebitten at this point; he was drawing a lot of criticism at this point, but it wasn't for lack of trying. I knew it was only a matter of time before he broke out as a playoff performer. Legace was also not anyone who inspired confidence; he seemed like a nice guy, but he just wasn't someone you felt you could count on when the chips were down. Do you think Hasek or Osgood would have blown a lead in the third like that? This was also one of many Babcock-helmed Wings teams that underachieved in the playoffs; I frankly have never been sure that he was the right leader for this ultra-talented squad. I think he was always best suited to a more lunch-pail group like the 02-03 Ducks.
and all this in a 30 team league!!! not 6 or 12 or 20, 30 teams. thats amazing. Show some respect for each other and for the NHL. It is the greatest game on earth.
Here in 2024. Oilers just punched their ticket to the Stanley Cup Finals again. I am emotional.
i'm a huge flames fan
but through this whole series i was praying for the oilers so we could see a flames vs. oilers round 2 matchup
and watching hemsky win this one was cool, even for a calgary guy
of course we never saw that round 2 match cause the flames choked huge against the ducks
what teams do you like or which teams are hockey twons?
well put
yeah, I know I was testing you there. what team do you cheer for? probably the oilers?
Wow absolutely amazing! GO OILERS!!! Hemmer is my hero
Dosent matter It was still the last game he played in the NHL. and It was very difficult to relive.
good times good times!!
