3rd Period highlights of the Oilers dramatic come-from-behind victory over the Red Wings in Game 6 of their 2006 playoff series. Ales Hemsky's one-timer with 1:06 left in regulation gave the Oilers their first series win in eight years, and sent the entire city of Edmonton into hysterics.

Guys, please, let's keep it clean & focused.
First, Pronger played a LARGE part in that magical '06 run. But you've gotta tip your hat to Roloson, Pisani, Smyth, Stoll, Hemsky, Spacek (I can go on & on)... who all played incredible, unselfish, intense hockey, not only through Rd 1, but right to Game 7 of the Final.
      Shoulda, Woulda, Coulda... No excuses.
Everyone knows though if Roloson didn't go down with the injury in Game 1, the Oilers would've hoisted their 6th Cup!
🍻 Here's hoping McDavid & Co. can restore some of that optimism in the "City of Champions"!

    • @khav11
      @khav11 9 лет назад

Kosta454 Roloson wasn't stellar he just got the job done before he was injured , and tbh Peca and Pronger carried the team pretty much, pisani got some garbage goals that even george laraque could have tallied. Pisani had only one good year in the NHL. Oilers have been horrible and a bottom-leaguer team for about 10 years, since pronger & peca left! Pronger would have easily won the conn smyth if spacek or bergeron didn't suck so much against the canes, oilers blow.

I totally agree. I am a huge Habs fan and I could not help but be fiercely proud of the Oil during and after this game. Such unbelievable effort from the Oilers, such INCREDIBLE intensity and noise from the fans. I watched it on my slingbox from Europe until 5 in the morning or so. When Franzen scored, I almost died. When Hemsky made it 4-3, I jumped in the air and was shouting at the top of my lungs. So great to have the homer CBC announcers too.

I was sitting to the left of Roli in the 3rd, front row seat, that game! I drove in from Grande Prairie and missed the first period. I'm a Detroit fan but I really respect the Oilers and that was an impressive game, and when I got there it was 2-0 and I thought we had it, especially after Edmonton only got 2 shots in the second period. I'm glad I saw Yzerman's last game...and that was an impressive win by the Oilers. Their whole postseason was extremely impressive.

To this day both sabres fans and oiler fans are sour about Carolina. For good reasons. Should have been sabres vs oilers in the final. We had an absurd amount of bizarre injuries before game 7 and you guys lost your goalie in the finals. Carolina got so lucky. One of the worst teams to ever lift a cup in my lifetime. Was a very bizarre yet crazy year in hockey post lockout.

I'm a Wings fan living in Edmonton, but first and foremost, I'm a hockey fan. I was at this game and what a hell of a game, the 3rd goal was a good call, the Wings should have scored but were just simply outplayed by a better team. I was glad though I got to see Steve Yzerman's last game as a Wing. I did cheer for the Oil after this and what a ride they gave the City. I hope they can do this again but only if the Wings get ousted.

Best crowd EVER. Best celebration for hockey by an entire city that I have ever witnessed not only in my lifetime, but in the entire history of the NHL. Never has a city been so devoted to hockey and gotten so involved with their team as Edmonton did in 2006... They more than deserved the stanley cup. I am from Windsor Ontario, and therefore i speak with an Unbiased arguement for the city of Edmonton. Good luck to their team, their whole city deserves a win - they want it more.

As a Red Wings fan myself , I remember that horrific playoff series like it was yesterday unfortunately😊.. Dominik Hasek was just one year too late on arriving back to Detroit or else we would have won in 6 games!.. the Dominator would not have given up nearly half of those goals at legacy gave up that year looking shaky the whole playoff run.. All of us Detroit fans knew it despite him having a pretty solid regular season by we new Legace wasn't the guy for the playoffs, and we were more hopeful then we were confident in him.. But I look at it like this, if you're not worth beating what is there to look forward to??!.. 😂🤷🏽‍♂️ aahh miss the good ole days

Kudos to the Oilers. They adapted their style of play in that series and choked off the Wings offense. It sucked for me, but I know I get no sympathy from other NHL fans, being a Wings fan and all.
Rooted for the Oilers the whole way after that, they were fun to watch. That was a weird year, coming out of the lockout. And the 5-8 seeds all advanced. Don't see that too often.

After 2 periods Edm was down 2 - 0 and I'm like...no effing way we score 4 in the 3rd against Detroit... Well...we did. Sweet. Then I went into financial ruin cuz I thought I could predict the futre. Many failed stocks and hundreds of losing lottery tickets later, I'm ruined. Moral of the story: Just cuz you were right once...doesnt mean you'll be right ever again...ever.

Well first off, you have to hand it to the Oilers. They had a phenomenal run, led by Chris Pronger playing some of the best hockey of his great career. They routinely had timely scoring from throughout the lineup, and goaltending that almost always got the job done. I still think it's a shame that Roloson got injured; I was going for them in the SCF. Also, the Wings just matched up poorly against that Oilers squad. It was one of those classic teams that just outgritted the Wings in an early playoff round.
From the Wings' perspective, I can't point to just one thing, but I will say that I think they needed to fully turn over leadership from guys like Yzerman and Shanahan to Datsyuk and Zetterberg, and couldn't find success until they did. I remember getting the weird feeling like Datsyuk and Zetterberg may have still been deferring to the future HHOF guys (not that Datsyuk and even Zetterberg may not be, as well, but they weren't slam dunks like Yzerman and Shanahan) and not fully stepping into their own yet. I also remember Datsyuk just being kind of snakebitten at this point; he was drawing a lot of criticism at this point, but it wasn't for lack of trying. I knew it was only a matter of time before he broke out as a playoff performer. Legace was also not anyone who inspired confidence; he seemed like a nice guy, but he just wasn't someone you felt you could count on when the chips were down. Do you think Hasek or Osgood would have blown a lead in the third like that? This was also one of many Babcock-helmed Wings teams that underachieved in the playoffs; I frankly have never been sure that he was the right leader for this ultra-talented squad. I think he was always best suited to a more lunch-pail group like the 02-03 Ducks.

and all this in a 30 team league!!! not 6 or 12 or 20, 30 teams. thats amazing. Show some respect for each other and for the NHL. It is the greatest game on earth.

    i'm a huge flames fan
but through this whole series i was praying for the oilers so we could see a flames vs. oilers round 2 matchup
and watching hemsky win this one was cool, even for a calgary guy
of course we never saw that round 2 match cause the flames choked huge against the ducks
