Sen Blumenthal Discusses Threatened Abuse of Power on News Media by Pres-Elect Trump

President-elect Trump has stated he opposes the AT&T/Time Warner merger-but his reasons for doing so are deeply troubling to me. It is perfectly appropriate for a public official or a candidate to comment on the merits of antitrust enforcement-but to threaten more vigorous or adverse enforcement against a particular company because he doesn’t like the news coverage is a threat to the First Amendment. I am a believer in strong antitrust enforcement and welcome President-elect Trump’s interest in this area, but I find absolutely abhorrent the threat against a news organization based on its content.
