Every year when spring comes, everyone here will go to pick wild herbs with their friends. It’s a big event for Yunnan people as important as picking mushrooms. There are many wild herbs that we don’t even know their names in Yunnan. We love them as much as we love any meat. No high-end vegetables can be substituted for these wild herbs in our hearts. Every spring, they’ll become an inexhaustible resource of ingredients. It's never a real spring without a wild herb feast, and it also marks the beginning of a new spring every year.

It’s not my problem if you can’t see that. I detest people who can’t be sensitive to certain subjects for the sake of others because they personally don’t find it offensive. You never know how one seemingly harmless comment could affect someone. If multiple people have commented on this before and she’s aware, i’m sure she’s sick of seeing comments about it since her appearance really does not matter

I recognise a lot of the wild herbs and leaves in the video. I am from one of the hilly regions of north-east India and this is how we do it too. With our knitted baskets and foraging in the forests. Our style of cooking is more subdued though. But none the less, it's the gift of the natural world that makes us happy and healthy people. ❤️
How would you normally eat the herbs?
@@Jumpoable we usually eat some of them raw, mixed with a paste of chillies, garlic, fermented fish and salt. Some we steam or a quick dip in boiling water and mixed in the chilli paste. Some are cooked with meat too.
Exactly.. I am also from North East India of the hilly reason. I too recognise most of the wild herbs.

Life in the countryside is beautiful, more simple, peaceful, closer to nature, to earth and despite the hardships it's worth it. I am from Romania and I live in the south part of the countryside. My parents and I are farmers.
I guess part of why I am glad I recently found this channel is because I am curious haw is life for regular people in the countryside is in such a huge and diverse country like China. I am a new subscriber!

This is why i love learning about foraging. Finding plants growing wild that you can add to your food or can be made into medicine. Or dye.
That reminds me i need to harvest the wild sunflowers soon since the whole plant helps make a yellow dye and the plants are starting to die due to the summer heat.
Also need to havest what i can of the hairy plantain leaves since ive put that off so much they've gone to seed and started to die. Im excited to try making the salve that helps with insect bites and plant stings.
When you take care the nature, they'll take care of you too..❤️

I'd love to come to Yunnan one day and enjoy the food that you cook . You made me miss my godfather who used to cook the Chinese food for me to eat .Now he' s passed away but living in my heart for ever .Chinese food is awesome and delicious.
As Yunnan is close to Vietnam, this style of cooking is more close to Vietnamese cuisine, utilising a lot of fresh, raw herbs.
the Cantonese won't eat raw vegetables or herbs! LOL.
the cooking style in different parts of Yunnan is also quite different

Amazing as usual. I'm from south of France so I don't have the same herbs and plants, but I love to use the local ones in my dishes. It's always really inspiring to wach your videos. Every time i just want to look at what I have around me and cook. I've been a fan for years and you never disappoint. I always look for you receipes and also to see how your grand-parents and Dawang are. It makes me miss my grandma because she was a wonderful cook but also help me remeber all those wonderful moments I spent with her in the kitchen.

Wow.. I've never seen that variety of veggies before and it's amazing you can cook so many of them. Unfortunately it's tragic whenever I do something in the kitchen so yeah I think I only recognized the chilli and garlic 😅 (and meat?? 😆). I love family who eats together.
