We have eight horses and a donkey. Her friend had their horses at home, they had a big barn they were fed in each day, and usually were let run free however they wanted to outside of feeding. But now it was the winter and there was a snowstorm, with unusually low temperatures, so bad people had their pipes in the homes freeze. So my mom left the doors shut after feeding to keep the horses safe from the storm. Horses can be out in the cold. They grow a winter coat for a reason. If you can see ice forming on their fur or snow, not melting on it that means they are maintaining their heat. The insulation is working. If they were damp, that would mean that they cannot stay warm then a jacket would be in order. A barn is only necessary in a very few places. For very certain reasons. Such as rain. In the wild that would be handled by trees.
@ exactly. It is because humans prefer open fields to wooded land. It makes us feel better being able to see everything around us. Barns are meant to replace shade structure. Shade from rain, from snow, from sun. No trees, no protection. Horses are specifically designed for this. Anyone ever notice how quickly domestic equines go feral if left without fences? Seen a donkey that joined a band of elk after it got out lol. Just because we are not capable of withstanding elements doesn’t mean animals aren’t. The egos of humans and the need to anthropomorphize non-human beings…
Exactly lol. I ride horses and I adore when they grow in their winter coats. They get all fuzzy and it’s both really cute and a nice built in jacket that keeps them warm!
@ I had a pony as a kid that was fuzzy in the summer. In the winter she was a glorious fuzz ball. Like a donkey. Funny, my jacket was like hers, as it was 1993. 😬😂

This was a super cute video, don’t let the complainers get you down, you’re a fantastic horse owner ❤ I used to be a city girl too, til we moved to a farm in THE STIX 😂 about 4 years ago, I had to learn from no prior experience whatsoever about raising sheep, and chickens, and look at me now, I freaking love it ❤🎉😂
They're saying ' no we like it better outside '. Such adorable horses. I'm a horse owner for many many years. I always say atleast give them optional shelter. You've done that.👍
Your horses are a good weight. They have good coat management. And for people who are complaining about not having a barn, they can tolerate pretty cold temps. They've been doing it for thousands of years now, without the help of humans. Just for reference sake: Horses can generally handle temperatures as low as -40°F if they have access to shelter from wind and moisture, meaning a well-adapted horse with a thick winter coat can tolerate extreme cold with proper protection; however, most horses are most comfortable in temperatures between 18°F and 59°F depending on their hair coat. I love that you educate non horse people ❤
Put those temps in Celsius too, most people use Celsius. Horses can also regulate their body tempretures and their coats are almost water proof thanks to the oils in their fur.
@@dabi-is-online23idk, for people who do use Celsius it's really easy for them to just look up the conversions if they don't already know it, really no need for this person to have to put it in their comment tbh
@negligible_reality 😄 in america, they tried to convert us to metrics because the rest of the world uses it, but it just wasn't working. If people want to know more about why america doesn't use metrics, they'll just have to look it up.🤭
A RUclipsr with Husky dogs (who *LOVE* being outside in the snow), had to explain to cops that his dog wasn't being abused, which the cops could clearly see as the dog frolicked in the snow. As in this case with the horses, the dog's neighbor had also called the cops.
Your horses are doing what you should be doing not giving a fuck bout what people say on the Internet. Nobody knows your horses as well as you and their vet. ❤
Yep! Totally understand! My daughter's horse has a wonderful box stall all cozy. She can come and go as she wishes. But she still stands outside in the rain, sleet, ice and snow with icicles hanging from her mne and fur!😮 Crazy but she does look like a wholly mammoth in the winter 😂
Choice is a wonderful thing!! I love your family has a place to go to get out of the weather.. folks forget that in times long past animals were so valuable they literally were brought into the home to survive, cos if they didn’t, you didn’t.
I speak fluent horse...and your horses say they love you....people on the internet have virtual balls...they aren't real ..or important...wow...your horses are highly intelligent!!! ❤❤❤❤❤😊
😁🤣😂🤣😂. My horses went in the barn. It was -13°F 2 nights last week. They went in and stayed over night, all on their own. 2 nights in a row. True story.
I just love how you are introducing the tender feet to the realities of having horses around. Dude, if they don't have jobs; yeah, you have a crime ring. (They are not cold)!
One winter my three horses were out in the field and they had icicles on their whiskers. I felt so sorry for them that when I brought them into the barn to feed them. I😊 actually tied them up for a while. When I came back they had melted all the snow off of their coats and off of their whiskers so I untied them and they made a mad dash for the door. Lesson learned. Horses know what they need.
I love how you handled this! I am a school bus driver and pass a property with horses who stand outside on those freezing cold 6am mornings (clearly by choice) but as I pass them I always say “good morning please go inside it’s cold out here” just to make myself feel warmer. 😂😂 I do love seeing them enjoy their quite time while watching for the sun to rise. ☀️
I absolutely love you! Your sense of humor is on point and I’m sorry that people keep yelling at you on the Internet. You’re hoof puppies are also adorable in a dorky way
This is my favorite new internet trend. I usually see huskies, but it’s all perfect. It’s important to know when an animal needs help or is being abused, but just as important to know vice versa. ❤
Good hay, clean, (non frozen) ,water … a place to get out of the wind… a medium weight, water repellent turn out to help keep them dry… & they will live through another winter…💕🐎💕
Who blankets the wild mustangs? I'm telling you, they're good without. I spent 20 minutes chasing a miniature donkey in freezing rain at night trying to force him into his barn. Nope! One summer I dragged a horse off a hill to get him into the barn away from a tornado. I let him go at the stall thinking he would go in. He spun and ran back up the hill and stood with his butt to the funnel. I didn't understand it then. I don't understand it now.
Your "criminals" are holding out for the sympathy of strangers. Anything to make Mom look bad. 😊 You are a good mama, and all of your "odd squad" love you.❤
I used to have horses and they would never go in their stalls at my old house unless I put a lead on them and take them in there lol. Horses like to be outside, but people don't realize that they grow winter coats for the winter, so they don't get cold lol. I now let them just have fun in their pastures and I noticed that when I went to water them, they would play with the hose or try splashing me with water lol
There's a herd of Welsh cobs in a field near my house, very hardy mountain breed. They don't even have a field shelter. Out all year round in all weathers, no problems. If it gets very rainy & windy, or too hot, they just head for the trees.
I currently have horses and the only one that gets a blanket is the 34 year old whose winter coat doesnt grow well anymore and has a hard time in the -40 but I do still get people up in arms about the rest not getting blankets.. my horses like to ruin blankets and do anything they can to take em off because they are warm enough as is. I have noticed that in my area the only complaints i get are from the people who rent/do lessons/board at the big commercial barn next door though, so the horses are no longer put into that nearest pasture (also because people kept trying to feed mine and well, one of my geldings is a biter and people get mad about that too)
We used to have this problem, every year when the first frosts arrived people would call the RSPCA they would check the horses and say OK see you next year.

Gave up years ago on trying to get my old mare to use her field shelter. She despises rugs too, and used to just shred them, so I gave up on those too. She grows a very dense winter coat of her own and tucks herself into the shelter of a hedge in particularly bad weather. She's happy like that, and it is more natural than how we keep most horses.
I haven’t watched this channel in such a long time but I am SO HAPPY that I’m watching it again. Your horses and donkey make me laugh and I can’t want to get that sense of nostalgia after rewatching your old videos. I’m also going through some mental issues and this is exactly what I need. thanks for making me happy and say tell your animals I say “hi.”
Yep, some dogs love being outside in the snow and cold, and there are always some self-righteous that don't know anything about animals. Love the jacket!
They'll just find something else to yell about🤷♀️😂 My friend had a husky and the neighbors called the police on her. The police and animal control showed up and said the neighbors said you're neglecting your dog by leaving her outside in the cold weather all day. She said, "I tell you what, if you can get her to come inside, I will let you take me straight to jail, lock me up and throw away the key!" Needless to say, my friend is still a free woman😂 Some animals are built for this weather!
Horses huddle kinda close and put their butts to the wind, and the snow actually forms a frozen, crust-like blanket over their backs and butts to help keep in the warms. Whenever I used to try and explain this to people before my barn was built, they at first couldn't comprehend this. Until I made them come over and feel how warm they were under that crust of snow.
The little bit of a head shake from all of them is them saying “ can you believe what she just said?!?!?!?!? Just shake your head a bit, smile, maybe a little noise to think she thinks that we are actually going in there! She’s so funny, I think she’s trying out a new comedy routine! What do y’all think is she loosing it or telling jokes?!?!?!?’” Hahahaha love it and good luck to ya!!
Your babies are absolutely beautiful. Don't worry no yelling from me. They look very happy and obviously trust you they are standing so close to you. They see you their good friend full of love, treats and pets. Thank you for taking such good care of them.❤❤❤
I swear my horses wanted to play in the snow. I used to spend hours outside in the snow with them. Brushing them and cleaning hooves. When an animal is cold it will find shelter 😂😂😂.
My Australian Shepherd LOVES the snow. She will literally sit outside WHILE it’s snowing. She has a doggy door so she can come in and out of the warm house as she pleases, but the only time she comes in is when I’m feeding her. I think some people just don’t understand how animal’s fur works, and they can only see things from a human perspective, so when they think it’s cold outside then surely the animals think it’s cold, too.😂
“She said she’s a ballerina. Yea, see how she’s posing with her arms up like that. Definitely a ballerina. Come on let’s get away from the barn” 😂😂😂😂❤❤❤
Put a sign over the entrance "NO HORSES ALLOWED" - that should work pretty quick.

That’s such a nice thing to say! I won’t stop making videos as long as y’all keep watching them! ❤️
I love you so much I would pay to fund Squids swimming pool if if you were to go on tour with the criminals… a traveling comedic show featuring “carcas crimebags”

I absolutely love that you leave the barn open so that they can go in and eat/drink whenever they feel like it. Nicely done, not enclosing them and limiting their choices and freedom ❤😂
Honey don't listen to anyone who fusses. They obviously don't know anything about horses. You're great with them and take excellent care of them. They're healthy and happy and 100% what they're supposed to be. You're really good to them and they know they're loved and cared for.
They just cared. Pipe down.
@superara1 Sorry, I don't really do that. Just as you felt the need to tell me to pipe down I felt the need to support her. Ain't free speech great!

“A bee-arn??? Sounds gross, no thank you! 🥰”
They have one thought between their eyes and it is “barn? No need for barn!”
Squid is like "f*ck those people"
Horses can be out in the cold.
Right? This is how far removed we are from nature as a society that people don’t know that horses evolved to live OUTSIDE!! Sheesh.
Well Dexter, the Jack Ass, got the memo!😂 The others are simply playing martyrs to gather sympathy and make mom look bad.
You're raising a bunch of hoodlums MOM!😅
Looks like they don’t care what people on the internet have to say! 🐎😂😂❤️
Your horses are healthy looking and are ok with their winter coats to be outside. They'll go to the barn when they need to. Don't worry about what people say differently! 😊
I wish I would’ve grown up on a hobby farm. I never realized how precious all these horses and sheep and goats and cats and dogs hanging out together. They’re so adorable instead of wasting your time on a computer you’re hanging out with animals. ❤❤❤
It's not even cold.......u can't see the horses breath. There's no flies in winter.....I'm speaking for the horses. LOVE PEACE WINNING. BTW, I love how u r explaining it the whole class. ❤❤😊

Yep sounds about right 😂😂😂 well to be fair, those “people talking crap” on the internet have never owned any type of farm animal, and just don’t understand. The struggles 🤦♀️ but also the love, joy and rewards 🥰And not just about the horses not going into the barn during the winter 😂 they don’t get most of it.
Just for reference sake:
Horses can generally handle temperatures as low as -40°F if they have access to shelter from wind and moisture, meaning a well-adapted horse with a thick winter coat can tolerate extreme cold with proper protection; however, most horses are most comfortable in temperatures between 18°F and 59°F depending on their hair coat.
Why is it that some people insist on being “know-it-alls” when they are stupid “know-nothings” who spend their lives telling the rest of us what
@negligible_reality 😄 in america, they tried to convert us to metrics because the rest of the world uses it, but it just wasn't working. If people want to know more about why america doesn't use metrics, they'll just have to look it up.🤭
Those hard-headed, hooved monsters! They're not listening.... Trying to get mom introuble. 😮😅😅😅
Beautiful horses. Don't pay any attention to idiots that don't have a clue. You are beautiful. Keep doing what you do.
A RUclipsr with Husky dogs (who *LOVE* being outside in the snow), had to explain to cops that his dog wasn't being abused, which the cops could clearly see as the dog frolicked in the snow. As in this case with the horses, the dog's neighbor had also called the cops.
You must be alone with that kind of mentality
They just want cuddles Lol! beautiful babies! ❤❤❤

Ahh don't worry about folks that don't have a clue. It just isn't worth it young lady!! Thank you for taking care of your babies!!

@@janelahmeyer2014 I'm glad to hear our mare isn't the only one that does this! We used to think it's because she's a rescue horse and was out 24/7
Choice is a wonderful thing!! I love your family has a place to go to get out of the weather.. folks forget that in times long past animals were so valuable they literally were brought into the home to survive, cos if they didn’t, you didn’t.
They were downstairs, warming the upstairs. I could do with a few downstairs at the moment. ( Maybe an idea...)

😁🤣😂🤣😂. My horses went in the barn. It was -13°F 2 nights last week. They went in and stayed over night, all on their own. 2 nights in a row. True story.
Right after you hung the “SUPER VILLAIN LOUNGE” sign…. 😊
@huskergator9479 No, but I like that idea. 😁😂🤣😂🤣
I just love how you are introducing the tender feet to the realities of having horses around. Dude, if they don't have jobs; yeah, you have a crime ring. (They are not cold)!
People are learning everyday through this channel that horses are chaotic and precious all at once
Very well said 🐎
I live in Yukon Canada. Some local outfitters literally turn their horses out in the winter. They live wild on the land and they thrive and love it!!!
Your horses are so attentive to you! I can see how they love you. They are telling you, “Don’t worry about those who know nothing about us!”❤❤❤
One winter my three horses were out in the field and they had icicles on their whiskers. I felt so sorry for them that when I brought them into the barn to feed them. I😊 actually tied them up for a while. When I came back they had melted all the snow off of their coats and off of their whiskers so I untied them and they made a mad dash for the door. Lesson learned. Horses know what they need.
I love how all these beloved pets are as lovingly & crazily funny as mum❤❤🤣🤣
Horses grow winter coats, it's natural. Then shed, in spring ,they are warm enough. Intelligent animals ,to make their own minds up. Xx❤
Absolutely beautiful horses!❤❤❤❤🐎 🐴
I love how you handled this!
I am a school bus driver and pass a property with horses who stand outside on those freezing cold 6am mornings (clearly by choice) but as I pass them I always say “good morning please go inside it’s cold out here” just to make myself feel warmer. 😂😂
I do love seeing them enjoy their quite time while watching for the sun to rise. ☀️
is that pickle in the barn? being an angel? 😭💕
Of course.
Pickle is the only one with any sense in the winter (although he does scream at me like I personally made it cold)

That sassy brown 🐴 horse is saying, "If you're cold, then YOU go in", with that head nod. 😅
Love your horses, and u sound like a very loving mom for them ~ congratulations on sharing your life with them !
@@kimberlybarnett9596 I mean, if that whirlwind had hit the barn it would just have disintegrated around him...

They like being out… but I’m glad you (and I) have shelters for them! At least they go in sometimes!
I haven’t watched this channel in such a long time but I am SO HAPPY that I’m watching it again. Your channel is going to do so much for positive thoughts about horses and donkeys and so on. Your skits are wonderful.
Their beautiful. I'm sure if they wanted to go in there they would. I'm sure they're enjoying that snow and that cool air.
Yep, some dogs love being outside in the snow and cold, and there are always some self-righteous that don't know anything about animals. Love the jacket!
😂😂😂 I Love the sign "No horses allowed in barn !" I bet those teenagers will go in pronto 😂😂😂
What a beautiful trio of horses!!!
Horse hair blankets were among the warmest blankets our Pioneers had.
😂. The horses don’t care that it is snowing or raining. They just like being out. When they are ready they will go in the barn.
They'll just find something else to yell about🤷♀️😂
My friend had a husky and the neighbors called the police on her. The police and animal control showed up and said the neighbors said you're neglecting your dog by leaving her outside in the cold weather all day. She said, "I tell you what, if you can get her to come inside, I will let you take me straight to jail, lock me up and throw away the key!"
Needless to say, my friend is still a free woman😂
Some animals are built for this weather!
@@SandyRavenAuthor if my horses look cold I give them extra hay. They can keep themselves warm, no problem

Thank you so much! I really appreciate it! ❤️
You can lead a horse to a barn......... LOVE your horses!!

They are just like 3 lil kids like "but can we go play now Mom?" 🤣🤣🤣
