Putting groceries away--doing the hard work now to make life easier later.

  • Hi! I finally went grocery shopping yesterday. And that kicked my butt, so I only put the cold food away when I got home. Which means it's allll waiting for me to finish today. :)
I'm having a pretty good health day today, so will do everything I can to make things easier on myself during my bad days. Might as well do all of something at one time, rather than a little of that something here and there, right? I like doing it this way because I'm making the mess only once. Plus all of the recycling can be broken down and taken outside at one time, instead of a box here and a box there.
Laziness has its virtues at times. haha It does help me maintain the clean I'm trying so hard to achieve.
So join me as I show you my monthly putting groceries away chore. I generally shop only once a month. I don't drive and usually need help with the shopping, so a sibling will take me. And, since they live a good distance away, I try to limit the amount of times I need to bother them. Those poor people also take me to appointments and any other errands I may need to do. Lots of family bonding time....probably more than they bargained for. lol
In this video I also give a little bragging tour of the living room and kitchen, very proud of the fact that I've been able to maintain the cleaning I did earlier. Hopefully, I'll be able to do the same bragging next month with even more rooms.
I love hearing from those who have commented, it really brightens my day. Thank you for that. If you're new here, please like, comment, and subscribe. The motivation you folks are providing me is real!!
    Hope you enjoy!!

Personally, I think everyone here commenting takes pride in what you're doing..and we understand how it feels when it's all just too much!! You've come alive again and many who are without hope can find it here. Just this week, before I found you, I 'took apart' my large bathroom....from top to bottom; everything was put in the shower, scrubbed down and put back and it took me more than 5 hours! But oh it feels so good! So, I know how you feel when you push through the pain and the inertia. Bravo and so happy to have found you.

My daughter showed me how to peel boiled eggs without tearing it up. She raised chickens for awhile and was covered up with eggs. You boil the eggs in salt water, a lot of salt, like a generous handful. It really works. Thanks for the tip about the shiny egg still needing more cooking time, learn something new everyday!

Why had I not thought about pre mixing my meatloaf! What a super duper idea. And, to be honest, I never even thought to pre rinse my chicken either. We love egg salad, but I've been so lazy we haven't had any lately. I love the idea of hard boiling a dozen at a time. So many good ideas! Today is grocery day and I've added a few things to my list. Thank you again for sharing.

The one thing I do manage to do all at once is put groceries away, but the cleanup after that is tiem-consuming so the bags etc tend to float around the kitchen for a whole day before I move them.

I, too, use the plastic grocery bags for my garbage. Made a holder for a small plastic trash can out of a wire coat hanger and screwed it to the inside of the under-the-sink cabinet door in the kitchen. Put the ever proliferating plastic bag inside the plastic trash can and fill it up with non-food trash (food scraps go in compost); yank the handles up and tie them and the trash goes in the pickup bin outside. I generally have little such trash, so most of the time I need just one bag for the week, just occasionally two bags. But however many you need, there are always more with every shopping trip. Even I, who most often use reusable shopping bags, get way more than I need.

I buy trash bags, of big ones with the drawstring but I also used to grocery bags for lots of different things such as if there’s just a little bit of picking up that needs done that doesn’t necessarily require an entire trash bag or cleaning up after the dog when she does her business outside… OK and sometimes inside but mostly out… And When he and my two kids move from one apartment complex to another… We got rid of a lot of worn out or old gross things such as the The bathroom trashcan… Now I just take one of those grocery bags and Take the toilet roll holder off, with each handle over the part that sticks out from the cabinet where it’s mounted and then I put the toilet paper back on and then there you are a nice convenient inexpensive way to get rid of various bathroom trash

I love love love your attitude! It's awesome that you can add humor while recovering from your chaos! I fell into deep depression while I was paralyzed from the chest down, but as I learned how to walk again, my depression remained! It stinks huh!? I'm doing more each day, like you! You have inspired me so much! Oh, I agree with everyone that says to get a P.O. box....please!!!!

I live at the beach in San Diego 8 doors from the ocean so it can get muggy hot in August, I have put a drape on the doorway between my living room and my kitchen, i put another drape in the doorway from the living room to the hallway. I just have a small apt so all tricks and hacks are employed. but it really makes a huge difference. esp when cooking. and it keeps the greasy air from traveling into my living room. this might help you in summer time. a girl gotta do what a girls gotta do to stay cool.

This is the 4th video in a row that I've watched and I'd like to tell you that you're so awesome for making these. I dunno how many more videos there are, but it's been kind of inspiring watching you tackle the hurdles that your illnesses (both physical and emotional) have created. I'm one of those people who would get into a funk in my life and rather than addressing it the way that you have, I self-medicated instead. All that resulted from that response was to create more problems for myself, both with regards to my family and then later in life (I got high for 20+ years) legal issues.
I'm putting the pieces of myself back together now. It's nice to know that I'm not the only one who gets into a depression like you must have gotten into- and it's great to see examples of how other people push past those bouts of darkness. Makes me realize that there are other options for coping... not just getting high. Keep doing what you're doing.

This is the best news I've heard in a long time!! There are other ways of dealing with it. Probably the biggest hurdle is to realize we don't have to be perfect all at once all the time. Good enough really is good enough for now sometimes. I'm so happy my videos may have helped you and hope you can continue to find happiness. Thank you for watching!!

I had the same dilemma for years, and then I learned the easiest way ever to always have perfectly cooked, hard boiled eggs; simply cover the eggs with water and bring to a rapid boil, over med/med-high heat. As soon as the water reaches that rapid boil, cover pan with lid, remove from heat and let sit for 15 minutes. That's it. It works perfectly, every single time. I usually run cold water over them for a few minutes after to stop cooking process~no more green/gray yolk edges! Also, they are easier to peel if you add a teaspoon of baking soda to the water before bringing to a boil.

  • @maryjanedelariva7019
    @maryjanedelariva7019 7 лет назад +1

F.Y.I. When boiling eggs. You can put a lid over the pot. But leave a crack open, so the water does not over boil. Also, it won't get so HOT in your kitchen. I just discovered your videos, and I am hooked on them. It shows how real and honest you really are.
Thank you for your time to record how you really live. Alot of us can relate with you. Keep 'em coming! 😀👍💘

You are such amazing lady! You are such an inspiration to everyone. You have such a great personality. I pray that you will continue to be healthy and be able to continue doing such a great job of keeping up with you house and taking care of yourself and cats! Your son must be so proud of you. Hope you can keep making your videos as I have seen them all. I watched most of them late one night. I was emotional watching them but once I saw how strong you are I was so relieved that you did not stop and you kept going. I wanted to get up and run to where ever you are and help you. But you didn't need any help you did it all yourself. Be proud of yourself if there was a picture in the dictionary with the statement "pick yourself up, dust yourself off and keep going" you're picture would be there! I agree with the other comments about using RUclips to get things for yourself. I am new to all this. My grandchildren are always on RUclips and now I have started to enjoy it. The best to you and your son!

These videos are fantastic! I wish you were my neighbor. It's like watching myself clean if I did (haha) Watching you clean is exactly how I clean and unpack my shopping. I do different ingredients in meatloaf and I make some into small meatballs and freeze them. Sometimes I add things to the hamburgers to try out. bacon bits or cheese, spices. I hit rock bottom after losing someone who was my world. grief. and I had a broken hip during that time so it was hard to pick up things I dropped. I got used to the look. disappointed in myself when I could not finish fast when I tried, over overwhelmed. when I needed a half hour break every five or ten minutes when I did try. Thankfully someone owed me a settlement in installments or I would have become homeless, in grief with a broken hip. This year I have had over a dozen surgeries so far. It is very hard to care about stuff on the floor when it is painful to bend over! The pain wasn't the worse, the depression and grief do me in.. I still can't function right. comfortably numb. no. I don't do drugs or alcohol. if I did it probably would make it less painful but I think I have enough problems already. no need to add drugs. papers.. um. I have so many unimportant mixed with important stuffed in totes to sort later that the important ones are no longer important... yayyy! those can go. When things hurt you find easier ways to do them so I have, I toss a kitchen towel or paper towels on the floor and scoot it around to wipe the kitchen floor as I cook, there is a swine issue too and sweeping and mopping hurt. it takes longer to need a good mopping if I wipe as I cook or do dishes. I'd like to offer a simple tip. That stove top you have could easily look like new! just get some dollar tree oven cleaner, give it a little squirt and use a dollar tree steel wool scrubbing pad. You will love the result. thank for the encouraging videos!
