@tiburciomendez9670 It’s far too complex to explain in a comment on YT. For starters, there was never a “war”, particularly not in the 1980s. That was a particularly tense time in the 6 counties still under British occupation, for sure and supporters of both sides were carrying out atrocities on a daily basis.
Things are much more civilised today and most people accept that a democratic solution is the only thing that can last.
Right now there are still more people who consider themselves British living there and as long as that continues to be the case, there will continue to be a Northern Ireland , separate from the republic.
The division is closely related to religious beliefs, with the majority of Catholics being republicans and the majority of Protestants being Unionists, though there are exceptions to both.
Sooner or later there will be a referendum, to decide whether to reunite the island, or leave it divided for longer. Some people think that should happen right away, while others are happy to wait until the outcome is easier to predict.
The most important point, however, is that people from both halves of the community are willing and able to tolerate each other and work together towards making their part of the island safer. In the 1980s, if anyone had suggested such a thing might happen, they’d have been laughed at. Now it just how things are.
Tourists can come here and cross back and forth across the border without ever seeing a soldier or even any sort of border post and it’s much better.
Today, the most obvious sign that you’re in the North is the different road signs. Distance and speed are still in miles, while the rest of the country has been metric for many years. Policing is by unarmed civilian police in both jurisdictions nowadays, so you won’t see army jeeps with “Police” on their sides anywhere. They’re in typical civilian cars, almost all white with hi vis decals and blue lights. In the north, the writing says Police, while in the rest of the country it says Garda.
There are other subtle differences, like red post boxes, or green, for example, but mostly it’s seamless now.
So, massively oversimplified, that’s how things are today. You can spend your Euro anywhere. If you have pounds, they’ll be preferable in the north, but not universally accepted elsewhere. The further you are from the border, the less equipped people will be to accommodate you, if you present Sterling. Hope that helps you understand it, a little.

I love Anna’s outfit today. It’s interesting to think that most people of European descent came from the ancient corded ware people, who in turn are descended from the Yamnaya tribe of about 6000 years ago in what today is Ukraine. I wonder if my ancestors 6000 years ago wore clothes similar to what Anna is wearing today. Not sure if people back then had the textile technology to make something like that. Interesting to think about though.

Heck yeah, everything Ukraine is doing screams of prepping for F16s. Taking out the radars, the AHs (huge deal!), and the S400s and airfields. There is no such thing as an ammo shortage for the F16, and they will hopefully serve you well.

Today, on my way from work, i saw a young girl dressed in an embroidered dress coming out of the Ukrainian institute. Knee-length dress, white with a beautiful red pattern. She was unique on the street. I knew it was vyshyvanka, now i know why she was wearing it. Thanks for the reminder Anna 🙂

Thanks, Anna! I am trusting that missile defence systems, such as the Patriot and others, will arrive shortly to assist Kharkiv in defending itself against Russian air assaults. The Russians in this area seem to be caught in a killing zone, judging by the numbers. Much of the reporting about the front line often seems distinctly misleading, inaccurate and unfocused, if often well-intentioned.

Decades ago in Canada I seen Ukrainians who had immigrated here wearing Vyshyvanka, on special occasions weddings and I believe at Easter. They all were beautiful and hand done. I also remember the women wearing beautiful floral head scarves. I've read and been told that Vyshyvankas vary in design, colour and stitch depending on the territory of Ukraine. I'm not aware of Canada having a Canadian national costume, likely as in Canada we have so many nationalities, who do wear traditional costumes from their country of origin. For instance my grandmother immigrated to Canada from Scotland therefore my mother made us kids, Sutherland Clan tartan kilts with matching scarves.

Hi Anna, you look especially beautiful today in your Vyshyvanka and jewelry. I’m not aware of anything close to similar in my culture but in this area, there is a strong representation of the first Peoples of the Americas who last month had the largest Gathering of Nations and Powwow. Many were dressed in their ceremonial outfits which are spectacular.
Another thing spectacular has been the response to Jake’s fundraising. He has given many of us an opportunity to aid Ukraine with ambulances and drones. People feel your plight. Stay strong.
