Nuclear bombs have an EMP effect, but that is only above ground. This was detonated on the ground, leaving no altitude for ionized particles to destroy electronics. The plane crashed due to both the pilot being blinded by looking directly at it and the massive air-pressure burst from the bomb, which would fuck up the aerodynamics.

i'm not sure why you'd think that? even the lowest yield nuclear detonations have an EMP effect. the first ever nuclear detonation, from ground level, had an EMP. an effect that was unknown to scientists at the time, it was simply called "radioshock" because they could hear the EMP over the radiosets at the test site. an EMP effecting the electronics on an aircraft is highly debatable. and would most likely be drastically different depending on yield, atmospheric pressure, and even resonate electromagnetism of that area of the planet.

They should first make a second one. The Soviet misisons where only a expansion on the first game and merged into it even. Really wished they made a new World in Conflict, but i guess its not mainstream enough ugh.
***** Soo true, the story for the first one never finished either. We are only left with the fact that the war in Europe is looking grim for the NATO forces, China has entered on the Soviets side, and the US wins on its homeland... left a big cliffhanger about the rest of the Third World War.

Really love this trailer. Gives the game and storyline a more darker tone. Too bad the Nuke big american city bit was taken out. Would make sense for the GRU to infiltrate a team with a nuke to avoid the "SDI" which the soviets believed was active.
@Magni56 you are forgetting that the while reason that the USSR invaded was to try and secure financial aid for their economy, and are continuing to hope that can be gained. As to the nuclear response, that would only be if the Soviet Union or one of its allies were struck by a nuke. This was the US nuking their own territory to protect a strategic hard point, something that I don't think anyone would do unless extremely desperate. As to a proportional response, where would they hit? The Soviets think that SDI is operational, and ICBMs cannot be used. Cruise missiles could work, but where would they target? They can't strike from the sea because of the US fleet and the USAF is still a strong contender. They are stretched to the limit as it is. Why else did they ask for the PRC to lend assistance?
@Magni56 You are making it seem as though the USSR leadership is going to conduct a nuclear strike, despite the fact that no one wants to be responsible for starting a nuclear war. No doubt the Politburo debated on striking with a nuke, but it is my belief that most of them did not want to. Could they have nuked another part of the front in Europe? Yes, they would have, but then that would have resulted in the wrath of France and the UK with a nuclear strike and an escalation. Besides, the whole invasion of Seattle was an attempt to have the US pull forces out of Europe, and it was a gamble since it is at the far edge of a supply line for the USSR. Did the US use a nuke first? indeed they did, but it was on their own soil, and it was a SINGLE tactical nuclear weapon, not a city killer in the multi-megaton range. It did more harm to the US, and while a "proportional strike" would be appreciated, the leadership would no doubt not want to in fear of escalating the conflict further. If there were more nuclear strikes, I could see the Soviets countering, especially if they were in Europe or their home soil, but this was in the home of their biggest rival. Where did you get the idea that SDI was inconsequential? That was the whole reason why the Soviet's open up with a nuclear strike first, and the reason they were going after Cascade Falls in the first place. The US wasn't going to launch nuclear weapons on the Soviets because they knew it could cause untold amounts of damage. The whole goal was to keep this as conventional as possible. You have to remember that by the time this war began, the Soviets were behind technologically when compared to the West. Their airforce couldn't compete with the West's and their tanks were at a severe disadvantage when it came to rate of fire and equipment. Bombers could be intercepted by Allied and US fighters which were far better than Russian, and there were the anti-missile capabilities of the West which were far better than the Russians. No doubt the US and USSR fleets were reduced in capabilities by the time the Chinese entered. That would be the only reason why they entered the war on the Soviet's side after all of the assistance that the US gave to China after the 1970s. The Soviet Far East Fleet was always the weakest of their navies, and I can imagine that neither could really take advantage. It is a big ocean after all.

With a javelin, it pretty much needs a dedicated operator and I'm not sure whether they are easily reloadable in the field. I have been wondering something Is the EMP a device in the bomb or is just an effect from the explosion? Also if the EMP is caused by a device how does it activate?
PKBChaz EMP is a result of a nuclear explosion. Also, it’s only really noticeable if the bomb is detonated above the ground. (Say, 1km+ off the ground.) I know this answer is 4 years late but an answer it is nonetheless.
@@loganb7059 this is false (2 years late) the main first pulse (Which is the dangerous one mostly) is made up in the Gamma spectrum, which when detonated in the atmosphere is a result from the explosion causing the air around it to release gamma rays. @@MrCoolguy425 A years old reply but essentially because of how close he was to the bomb the explosion hasnt reached high enough for ionized particles, the explanation the guy gives in the comments is that he got fucking blinded by the nuke
@Manuel Camelo not exactly ,its emp effect is greatly diminshed if its a ground level explosion. It only works if its stratosphere to the ionsphere explosion
actually it originally was all cannon, this was the original idea, the storyline and campaign would have been radically different, the plot was that instead of the cargo ships, the soviets smuggled in nuclear bomb into the U.S just like they did in washington, the U.S would have been obliterated and then the soviets and the chinese (who would have actually been a faction you could fight) would come in. The war would be bigger as well as the campaign. There would have actually been 4. One you would control Parker, who controlled elements of the remnants of the united states army in the U.S. Two you would have controlled the British Army. This would have been a radically different campaign as not only would you not control NATO forces as a whole but rather just one indivisual NATO Country but you would also control a different commander, a British Lieutenant. In that campaign you would fight in the U.S as part as a NATO task force sent to try to retake the U.S along with elements from the U.S military who were stationed in europe. You would also still fight in europe in both campaigns in flashbacks, and you would also fight in asia, as in this story China entered the war pretty much off the bat. They also planned to include campaigns for both the Chinese and Russians in the original game. There also would have been much more character development, the camaigns would have been longer, and it was supposed to be darker. This was deemed to be too ambitious as well as dark and was scrapped and made as a much more scaled down version however they made a trailer for it, and finished one of the campaigns. The Nuke idea was instead replaced by the Invasion of Seattle, The British Campaign was replaced by a NATO one which would have been about as long as the final version of the American campaign, so about 10 missions apposed to five. (would have still included NATO fighting in the U.S) however time was running short and only half of the campaign was finished, the half we know. The Chinese were supposed to still be in and they planned to put them in the russian campaign which was supposed to be released with the original game, however like the NATO campaign this was not finished in time and only a few missions were complete so they didnt put the campaign in the game and instead released a new campaign featuring only the russians in Soviet Assault DLC, the Chinese were not completely removed and were still intended to be in the campaign, as there was still supposed to be an Asian Front. However like alot of the game, these missions were unfortanetly never fully completed and Massive did not want to include the Chinese in the game if they couldnt include an war in Asia, because they thought it was silly to include a front in Europe which you could play, but to only mention a front in Asia which you couldnt, so the front in Asia was scrapped and because of this so were the Chinese. The Chinese were not completely removed from the game and they were still supposed to be included in the end, where you would fight them. However Massive really couldnt find a proper ending for this and it was instead decided to have them join the war at the end and set sail for Seattle and that the player would need to retake it before they landed which would mean they could not include them. So they were removed completely from both the campaign and from multiplayer. Its a shame they never completed the original ideas, would like to have played as the British Army as well as the Chinese, and would have loved to play on the Asian Front as well as play as the EU in America.
oh and if you're talking about tasmania, the state of Australia (where I live) I doubt it would wipe that out. (for once, I've been there, its quite big, and the ragged, mountain-like terrain would hamper much of the blast)
Judging by the angle of the nuke cloud (To the left of the Iwo Jima monument)... the closest major city with Skyscrapers like that in that direction is Baltimore. If this nuke went off in Arlington, the Nuke would have been behind the camera angle in the last scene. And also, bringing a nuke into a city like Baltimore, destroying it and DC in one blast... sounds more believable then it going off right across the river. Just my analysis.
I think he meant that would be nice sequel story where US thought they warded off the soviets but they managed to snuck a nuke in DC and detonated it and from the looks of it, Colonel Sawyer's army would be the only one who still has a functioning capabilities as most of the Army and National Guard units in America relocated to Seattle for the assault.
Its a shame we never got to experience the end to this story.....This might have been good way to start WiC 2, but then again we all know that nuking Washington would have meant USA nuking Moscow and that would have just started full scale nuclear war....so thats why this kind of scene would not really work.
How could USSR can infiltrate Mobile Nuclear bomb into the american soil? or nuclear bag? lol and US send a F-14 Tomcat to shoot him down? xD but they are failed to stop it lol
+정근욱 If Arabic terorrist infiltrated devices in New York with the FBI unawares on Sept 11 I would not want to imagine what a Spetznaz team going silent would do...
+정근욱 Well propably the reason this cinematic was never used in the game xD Then again, the whole story in the game is bit....well not entirely stupid, but something they could have worked on little more. Soviet forces trying to invade US to turn the tide of the war in Europe to their favor and take out their "Star Wars (or SDI) missile defence system" ,that was planned and announced by Ronald Reagan in 1983, but never went into operation. Its not in operation in the game either, but Soviets dont know that, and when their forces advance on the supposed location of the SDI base, the US forces in desperation detonate nuke on their home soil to wipe out majority of the Soviet forces, so that the truth wouldnt be revealed. Anyways that's the only time nukes are used in the war and the game end after the Soviets are driven away from US, but otherwise leaves the outcome of the war entirely open.
this part is (if you look closely) in the game. play the first cutseen and look at the very end, it shows the statue of iwo jima and piles of wreckage flying
lol no sorry if you misunderstood. The RADAR is so strong on the mig that they can't turn it on under a certain ceiling (and last time that occured it killed all the rabbits around the airbase)
Morale determines whether or not soldiers clean their gear before sacking out. It determines whether or not they actually go on patrol rather than going out of sight of their superiors and sleeping through the night. It determines if they maintain noise and light discipline. It ultimately determines whether or not they follow orders at all or frag their officers. And I think we're arguing about two different USSRs. You keep talking about WWII. I'm talking about late 80s USSR.
I know its something like i said. I just know that, in space, the energy is not converted into a shockwave or much of an explosion, but instead into something that fries electronics with an EMP.
Theres a reason the footage is unused. The only nuclear weapons used in the story are small tactical nukes fired by the americans, and only on thier own soil. They tried to make the story of this game seem as real as they could, without it ruining the game itself.
Exactly. The standard RPG-7 round isn't that effective. But there are many RPG round types, which makes the RPG-7 such a good all round launcher. On the other hand, their "2-boost" design kind of hampers their long range accuracy, there is only so much the adjusted sights can account for.
the nuke actually goes off in baltimore. the shot is from DC and blast wave would have been great enough to reach DC, but the actual detination is in baltimore
The F-15 has two control systems (in cas eone of them gets disabled). Electronic and ,in case the electronic system won´t work, a hydraulic system. That count as EMP protection
Massive Entertainment wasn't disbanded. They were sold to Ubisoft and renamed Ubisoft Massive. They've worked on AC:R and are currently working on FarCry 3! =D They did lose their founder, WiC developer and spokesperson, Martin Walfisz, though..
No offense intended but the way the Washington Monument crumples and that shock wave rips the American flag out of that Iwo Jima memorial is a brillient piece of scripting and graphics.
@BoxFreind The nuke describes when USSR attacked USA and it was supposed to be a trailer where much was left to the imagination like 1: Who was it that bombed Washington? 2: Why? And so on.
The marketing for WIC was somewhat confusing when comparing it to the actual game...images of Soviet troops rising a Soviet flag at the Iwo Jima monument, video of a nuclear explosion at D.C...when in the game they never even broke out of the Washington state...nether less, one helluva game!
An EMP, or Electro-magnetic Pulse, occurs with any form of electromagnetic wave. Every electromagnetic wave oscillates in a magnetic, and electic field. When I nuclear bomb is detonated, Gamma rays - high energy electromagnetic radiation - are released. These gamma rays at the initial detonation are so high enery, that the electric and magnetic fields are strong enough to damage any electronic system.

its a good mod but you cant possibly call it a sequel as it doent even future a campaign
I have been wondering something
Is the EMP a device in the bomb or is just an effect from the explosion?
Also if the EMP is caused by a device how does it activate?
PKBChaz EMP is a result of a nuclear explosion. Also, it’s only really noticeable if the bomb is detonated above the ground. (Say, 1km+ off the ground.) I know this answer is 4 years late but an answer it is nonetheless.
@@loganb7059 this is false (2 years late) the main first pulse (Which is the dangerous one mostly) is made up in the Gamma spectrum, which when detonated in the atmosphere is a result from the explosion causing the air around it to release gamma rays. The effective range of this emp is much shorter than if it were above the atmosphere (16 miles on surface)
This was non cannon.
Jin Zor Yeah but in reality they recaptured Seatle and destroyed Chinese taskforce.
MYPD SHP they left, only some got sunk
Replicas FTW Yeah
actually it originally was all cannon, this was the original idea, the storyline and campaign would have been radically different, the plot was that instead of the cargo ships, the soviets smuggled in nuclear bomb into the U.S just like they did in washington, the U.S would have been obliterated and then the soviets and the chinese (who would have actually been a faction you could fight) would come in.
Jonas Whitt Source?
Massive makes best trailers of all time!
Rip WIC
yeah..
oh and if you're talking about tasmania, the state of Australia (where I live) I doubt it would wipe that out. (for once, I've been there, its quite big, and the ragged, mountain-like terrain would hamper much of the blast)
great awesome fucking game!! it needs a sequel!!!
Lets pretend this happened way after WIC and WIC:SA
Jimmy Wen kkkk you are so anti-american?
I think he meant that would be nice sequel story where US thought they warded off the soviets but they managed to snuck a nuke in DC and detonated it and from the looks of it, Colonel Sawyer's army would be the only one who still has a functioning capabilities as most of the Army and National Guard units in America relocated to Seattle for the assault.
Its a shame we never got to experience the end to this story.....This might have been good way to start WiC 2, but then again we all know that nuking Washington would have meant USA nuking Moscow and that would have just started full scale nuclear war....so thats why this kind of scene would not really work.
aged like wine
because its on a DVD movie disc that came with the collectors edition.
ukraine 2022
I wish we would still get such titels like World in Conflict
Massive? More like Hugh Mungus
That response "oh god Jesus holy shit" LMFAO
THE RUSSIANS ARE COMING .....TODAY
2020 Lockdown and all I've played for 4 months is WIC
was that all single player campaign since there no longer multiplayer around?
How could USSR can infiltrate Mobile Nuclear bomb into the american soil? or nuclear bag? lol and US send a F-14 Tomcat to shoot him down? xD
but they are failed to stop it lol
+정근욱 That's an F-15.
because this is a video game
+정근욱
Its a video game
but I would say they used the F-15 to locate the van, and they probably had teams ready on the ground.
+정근욱 If Arabic terorrist infiltrated devices in New York with the FBI
unawares on Sept 11 I would not want to imagine what a Spetznaz team going
silent would do...
+정근욱 Well propably the reason this cinematic was never used in the game xD
Then again, the whole story in the game is bit....well not entirely stupid, but something they could have worked on little more.
Wow, I can see why this was never released, especially as a tv commercial. It may be awesome yes, but it essentially shows D.C getting vaporized.
this part is (if you look closely) in the game. play the first cutseen and look at the very end, it shows the statue of iwo jima and piles of wreckage flying
omg world in conflict are making very nice trailers
"Oh god, jesus christ, SHIT!" Guess someone thought about what someone would probably say before being blown to dust my an atomic bomb.
"AWGADJEEZUSHAWLYSHI-" amazing 2 second combo
for those of you who DO think war is ALL FUN AND GAMES its not its horrible death lives being lost and death
OH GOD JESUS HOLY SHIT!
The EMP effect arises in high altitude detonations; this detonation was in a van driving down a street.
im praying everyday to see this on news
@FlightSimLover It's not just Seattle. WiC plays out all over the US and Europe.
lol no sorry if you misunderstood.
I'm talking about late 80s USSR.
wow I actually got chills from that.
I know its something like i said. I just know that, in space, the energy is not converted into a shockwave or much of an explosion, but instead into something that fries electronics with an EMP.
Collectors Edition DVD.
Ghost Rider lol. I think that was a badass cut scene :)
I burst out laugh. "OMG JESUS HOLY SHIT!"
the nuke actually goes off in baltimore. the shot is from DC and blast wave would have been great enough to reach DC, but the actual detination is in baltimore
Woah! This is awesome!
this should be a movie
The F-15 has two control systems (in cas eone of them gets disabled). Electronic and ,in case the electronic system won´t work, a hydraulic system.
That count as EMP protection
the best rts of history
Massive Entertainment wasn't disbanded. They were sold to Ubisoft and renamed Ubisoft Massive. They've worked on AC:R and are currently working on FarCry 3! =D
They did lose their founder, WiC developer and spokesperson, Martin Walfisz, though..
Erie, but one of the best trailers I've seen in a while. I think that this would make a good teaser for a WWIII film.
man world in conflict would make an EPIC film
fuck, imagine if that ACTUALLY happened, awesome game
No offense intended but the way the Washington Monument crumples and that shock wave rips the American flag out of that Iwo Jima memorial is a brillient piece of scripting and graphics.
@BoxFreind The nuke describes when USSR attacked USA and it was supposed to be a trailer where much was left to the imagination like
1: Who was it that bombed Washington?
2: Why?
And so on.
That was cathartic
This must be what happens when you DON'T save Seattle at the end.
best RTS ever!
The marketing for WIC was somewhat confusing when comparing it to the actual game...images of Soviet troops rising a Soviet flag at the Iwo Jima monument, video of a nuclear explosion at D.C...when in the game they never even broke out of the Washington state...nether less, one helluva game!
"OH god, jezuss, holy shit" something like that.
That looks utterly terrifying
@GodHatesWar it is the same thing, but thank you for writing that
I'm glad Massive Entertainment is back in The Division 2.
I dont know what WW3 would would be fought with, but I can tell you what WW4 will be fought with, rocks.
It is DC, pause at 1:09, you can see the capitol building and washington memorial.
