Actually, Homestead and home school should be the only way .
The other benefit is small states can try different approaches to education and larger states can review the results. When there’s only one federally mandated approach, it’s hard to fix problems or innovate.
I went to school before there was a Department of Education. Seems to me education has only gotten worse after that department was created.

For a number of years, I lived in what they deemed the highest crime rate city in the US: Anchorage, Alaska. It's gotten better since we decided to actually keep criminals in jail. But at least in Anchorage, I was allowed to carry and protect myself (and I did have to do just that a few times -- luckily, no one had to be shot), but you would not catch me in Chicago. I'd be breaking the law right away because I wouldn't NOT carry. Let's hope Trump gets elected so no one has to worry like that.
