You 100% nailed the commentary with what Ronnie has been dealing with forever. He straight up admits he made mistakes and poor choices in the past but he's worked so hard to move past it and completely recreate himself and his life yet every. single. day. people tell him he's a terrible person and bring up stuff from 15 years ago that A) he's already paid the price for with prison and B) most of the time it's straight up lies because the truth has been twisted so often people just believe it and repeat it instead of doing their own research to see if it's real or not. It's disgusting and really plays into the whole, "Y'all think I'm a monster no matter what I do or how I've changed so why bother being a better person?" It's got to be exhausting. To me, the lyrics read like a diary entry. Or maybe a journal, which therapists will ask you to do so you can track your thoughts and moods with context. If you read them, even if there are refrains in the lyrics, the structure of the bars are as if they are a complete sentence. I’m wondering if Ronnie didn’t write this out as something therapeutic and then turned it into a song. It’s almost like you open a diary, begin reading, fall into it and then you’re there with the person.

I don’t know if you’ve seen Harry Potter but it’s like when they go into Tom Riddles diary, except instead of actions and moments you’re seeing feelings, brought to life, and the pain of being labeled a liar, a cheater, and a non-believer when all you’ve ever done is try to work to produce the best music for fans and the best situation for your family. All of that considering he had to come back from rock bottom to build to what he has now and people are still fuck holes about it. That’s why he seems so angry all the time. A lot of people get the benefit of the doubt, or even encouragement, but Ronnie doesn’t.

We went for both them and Disturbed (who, if you haven't heard you should definitely dive into them. They are huge supporters of mental health and have some awesome music). We enjoyed it sooooo much that we plan to make sure we can buy tix next time they come through so we can experience it again. Absolutely loved your reaction and can't wait for you to get into them further. All their music is great but I think the Trilogy is a great one that gives some history.
